Everyone's assuming he's down on his luck and is doing this for his sole income, but there's a chance he lives nearby (IN A HOUSE) and is only doing this to get some extra scratch. After all, if you were a pseudo-celebrity at one time and have the opportunity to make twenty more dollars just hangin' out in a subway station and signing autographs, why not?

I met him a couple years ago at a Comic Con and he was a pretty nice guy from my standpoint. I gave him $20 for his autograph and he signed it on a picture from his NWO days. Sad to see him like this now...

Some of you guys are so quick to jump to conclusions and overdramatics....
"GOD THAT'S SO SAD!! WWE NEEDS TO GIVE HIM A JOB!!!"
For all you know he's just doing this on the side, to make extra money, and clinging to his former life with everything he has; in one last attempt at fame.

I'd have given him money, just because he looks sad. I really feel sorry for him.

That's just rude to laugh at the guy. If i was going by i would have given him 20 bucks. He might not have been my favourite superstar back in the day but maybe the guys having some financial difficulties. If thats the case i hope he gets back on his feet.

I feel bad for him to be honest. He looks homeless. 'WRESTLING SUPERSTAR' banner with nobody in sight made me laugh though.. I can't lie.

Eh, there are far worse things Virgil could be doing in a subway for 5 bucks.

I didnt assume that at all. I know Virgil didnt make Hogan money, thats kinda...obvious. However, he was still employed from '85-2000 and made at least "decent" money. You've got guys like Jake Roberts who've made 3 times as much as Virgil has, and pissed it all away on coke, booze and hookers and still have more money then him. Try going 12-13 yrs without having a steady job and see where all your money goes Give me 15 years in the WWF/WCW on a low pay grade (for them) and then another 5-10 years as a Math Teacher (which people fail to remember, he DID/DOES have a job after wrestling) and I can promise you Ill have a roof over my head with at least some cash in the bank. At the very worst I would be in the position where Id only need to do a few celebrity signings a year to get by and not have to chill in a subway with a sign made at Kinkos

My wife and I met him at a convention about 8-9 years ago (I think the asking price was $15 at the time). His table looked about exactly like it did in the famous picture, with no one around it - our group went up to his booth and he seemed more interested in my wife than anything else. "Hey girl," he said to her as he looked her up and down. Our running joke is that my wife got hit on by Virgil.

God that is desperate. I'd feel bad for him if I hadn't heard so many stories of him being a complete douche & a con artist.
I wonder if he has an actual job.

To be honest he needs to let wrestling go and find a job. Part of the reason he hit rock bottom is he's trying to stay in the past. Instead of moving on with his life

I thoguht the first picture was taken before the event even opened or whatnot.. least thats what i rememeber goign around when that pic first surfaced... Pretty sure it was. Looks like a comic expo maybe even the one here in Calgary he attended. And the lack of crowd and people at tables beside him makes it clear it wasmt open Sent from my GT-I5500M using proboards

I really don't feel bad for the dude. He should of saved his money. This dude probably made 10 times more than than any of us in a year and for how long??!! I'm 24, live in my own apt, own a 2009 GT mustang thats all paid off, and live comfortable. I make nowwhere near what this guy use to get paid.
That said, if I walked buy him I'd give him the $20.
