It's both clever and brilliant, from raucous to poignant and back again. Sleepy LaBeef has composed a pop music master-class that is equal parts bizarre, wonderful, perverse, beautiful, exciting, provocative, exasperating, compassionate and mocking. There's plenty of electronic gimmickry on the record, but that isn't the heart of the thing. It's the combination of imagination, cheek and skill that make this such a rewarding LP. Overall, I give it a 4/6. |

 From the second you press play, K-Fed storms with rage, strolls with confidence, and reverberates with a social realism that's often ugly and horrifying. Laying new ground for West Coast MCs, 'Playing With Fire' is an innovative and progressive hip-hop package that must not be missed. K-Fed's prowess as beat-master and street preacher is undeniable, and his artistry is on a par with Phil Spector's or Brian Wilson's. In a few years' time, this could even be remembered as the best rap album of all time. All said, I'd give it a 6 out of 14. |
