As much as it may seem that I'm bitter with MDT, I'm actually not. Mattel got me back into collecting wrestling figures in a big way. I never could understand Jakks and their thunder-thighs RA figures that couldn't even do a simple boston crab - I mean these are wrestling ACTION figures. I'd pay for articulation! I don't play with my figures, but I do display them, and I want to pose them in the most basic wrestling moves if I could.
Mattel has done a great job, but I'm not afraid to point out how old boss Bill and higher-ups mis-managed the Legends line, or how their breath of product lines cannibalized each other (really what was the difference between DM vs. Elite lines? a box? Kamala, Rick Martel, even Mr. Perfect came with the right amount of accessories like a DM figure would). What I don't get with Mattel is if the strategy didn't work - simply revisit it and tweak, don't bury it. Mattycollector.com wasn't the answer for Legends, any idiot could have seen that. And the voting poll was a farce they've never owned up too.
But other than that and the dreaded LEG SLEEVES OF DOOM they pass off as knee pads, I think they've done a terrific job.

The scope of parts that they use is incredible. Jakks had about 10 torsos maybe? Remember the early Jakks Mark Henry figures? They were insulting. They implied that the barrel chested top heavy Mark Henry who is in pretty decent shape for his size was just a sloppy fat man like Viscera. Mattel has done him proper with a torso unique to him. And that's just one example.
My only real complaint, like most lines, is that over time the quality control has dipped while the price continues to climb. I also wish they would establish scale and maintain it. If you introduce new parts and they are bigger parts representing the same person, everyone else should scale up as well, that way you don't have a Cody Rhodes action figure that is proportionally bigger and more buff than a beast like the Rock.
EDIT: I forgot the main reason why I wanted to comment. Post this in the Jakks forum, and every comment will be the opposite of what it is here. I skirt the line and collect both WWE from Mattel and Jakks, as well as TNA figures. I like having older guys that Mattel will never make and as far as TNA, they are okay figures, but the alternative is no figures, and I like watching Impact.
Point is, over here we laugh on this forum about the "balloon heads" and "balloon arms", while on the flipside, the Jakks forum talk trash about mattel being the "barbie WWE line" and how skinny and pinheaded everyone looks. It's interesting to say the least being on both boards.

Mattel has taken wrestling figs to the next level & has set the bar!
I'll be very sad the day Mattel loses the Wwe line and will likely stop collecting all together.

Mattel has been better than I ever imagined a wrestling figure company could be. I just wish that they were easier to find in stores.

Mattel definitely doing a great job! Very happy with their WWE figures so far.. Love that they are to scale with one another whether its basic or elite. Great body sculpts and the head scans look good. Figures don't look out of proportion like Jakks. The belts that some of the figures come with look great too unlike the half-hearted attempts on the figure belts from Jakks. Their UFC and TNA figures look really odd and out of proportioned. Mattel shows who is boss.... Keep it up Mattel!

yes, although i've only just started buying them again, but please sort out basic CM Punk's knee pads. They really limit the articulation of the knees. I've got basic series 2 Punk, and i doubt i'll buy a newer basic punk with short hair just because of the knee pads.

they have done a very solid job, but I will never understand why mattel used the jakks model of RA & DA which in mattel = Basic vs elite? why use that system I dont get it. we were all use to it but its was not really a great system. I would prefer just something in the middle and only one line.
I also dont understand why mattel made the basic rings the same dam size as the jakks ones? everyone hated the jakks rings cause the posts suck and mattel did fix that issue but its still too small like the jakks ones. Why not make something a little bit bigger? maybe 2.5 inches bigger and it would be much better.
Mattel over all has bad distrubition across all there brands. DCUC anyone? but overall I like what they have done just wish they would not have used jakks models for business.

Mattel has blown Jakks out of the water. And I thought Jakks was doing a pretty good job. Looking @ what Mattel is doing now makes Jakks Classic Superstars line look horrible, IMO. I hope Mattel keeps the license long into the future.

How much longer do you think we could be getting Mattel WWE figures? I'm willing to bank on them renewing their contract unless the price point leaps too much over the next 2 years that action figures are no longer viable. That's really the only reason I could see for the line not continuing with Mattel. I honestly think, out of all the figures I've collected since 2010 from different manufacturers, that Mattel makes the best mass market action figure today.

Mattel have completely blew my mind. The elites and legends are a huge plus! I just hope they release new legends soon! Im very happy with whats been released at the moment, but i'd love to see a Haku, Powers of Pain, Barry Windham and now since hes back in WWE Ric Flair.

Mattel are light years ahead of Jakks. There's no comparison. Mattel are the best and the only reason i collect. If they lost the license i would stop collecting in a heartbeat because no one else could make figures on the same scale as Mattel.

I was an avid collector of Jakks Classic Superstars - I quit when Jakks lost the contract, figuring my display room is running out of space, and I didn't want to pick up a new brand - and honestly, I didn't think the Mattel stuff looked that good anyway... and they seemed expensive!
Late last year I became a big CM Punk fan and was very impressed with some of his Mattel figures, so I figured I'd start a CM Punk shelf so that my collection is still somewhat relevant... also, I have a four-year-old who is just getting into wrestling figures, so we have a good time hunting for new ones together....
At this point I can now say that the Mattel figures look better than the Jakks did - but my Jakks collection will always be near and dear to my heart (I have a room full of the stuff).
Now I'm back into collecting again, I'm more impressed with each Mattel figure I see... but I'm trying to be selective, as my collection is pretty large.... mainly sticking to legends, CM Punk, and Undertakers, or other ones that are unique...

I think Mattel has done a excellent job. Their lines of basics and elites have improved dramatically since 2010 I think. The figures really have grown on me alot and Ive bought ones that I never planned on getting in the beginning. Some of that is due to getting a bunch of Legends, DMs and EGs for alot less than retail, as I started collecting in August 2011 and the prices of those had really bottomed out. I hope they can add Hogan, Flair and Jeff Hardy and some others down the road as well. It seems like alot more people are collecting these figures now as well, Ive seen a explosion of bidding on some of them.

I have all my Jakks figures in a box somewhere in my attic, dont really appreciate the fact how they were all the same size in scale and build, seemed so cheap to me.

Of course! They have done a great job! Maybe they had their ups and downs with attire choices, head scans and all, but nothing can be perfect! Much better than Jakks!

I would prefer just something in the middle and only one line. Because they wanted cheaper basic figures for more casual appeal and variation, and more premium figures for people who were willing to pay more. Something in the middle would mean taking something away from both ends of that spectrum because not only would the figures have less detail/accessories/articulation than elites, they'd also be more expensive than basics. Because the Jakks ones sold, and that size ring fits well on a store shelf.
