My Best of PPV HBK's Ricardo BAF piece came without the bow-tie piece. I was hoping to trade it for a Cole torso, but without the tie, it was worthless. I got it from TRU.com as part of a BOGO sale, so straight up returning it to TRU was out of the question, because I would only get 50% value and the store did not have any HBK figures in stock at the time.
So taking the advice from a post on these forums, I called the Mattel hotline to report the missing part. They could not send me a replacement, but they offered to send me a $5 coupon. Obviously $5 won't buy a new figure, and in retrospect, I wish I had pushed for the full value, but I said yes and thank you and the coupon arrived in the mail a week later.
The coupon was due to expire in a little over a month, so I was pleased to find E19 HBK at Walmart. I figured $5 off this figure was a good enough deal, so I took it up to - what I though was the express check out lane - but the group in front of me had a million socks and kept leaving the register to get more. Very annoying, but I've had bad lack when jumping lanes, so I stuck it out.
My turn finally came and I presented the coupon. The cashier started looking around for another cashier and I was just about to say never mind, because I did not want to hold up the lane any longer. Another cashier appeared fairly quickly and the two had a conference. My cashier wanted to know what amount to write on the coupon - the total plus tax or without. The second cashier said without, that the customer still had to pay the tax.
So she rings in the coupon and enters the amount. She enters $16.99, leaving me to pay the tax and only the tax. Keep in mind, this was intended to be a $5 coupon.
I had already swiped my credit card, so I couldn't stop the transaction. So in the end, I got a new figure to replace my defective figure, which I think was the appropriate trade off.
Thoughts?

The discount amount is written out in words like a check; I guess she was so busy that she overlooked it. Mistakes in your favor are always fun.

Mattel should have issued you a voucher for the total amount paid for the figure in the first place... I see nothing wrong here

I happen to disagree on this one. While you should have gotten a voucher for the full figure cost from Mattel, since you didn't, it was wrong to stick Wal-Mart w/ the cost of a figure that was a Toys R Us exclusive. If you had not noticed the problem that would have been one thing, but if you knew what was happening was wrong & you didn't say anything to the cashier you should be ashamed of yourself. That kind of stuff is why Mattel is so leery when people call them w/ problems.

He didn't stick Walmart with anything. That's not how manufacturers coupons work. Walmart gets credit back off the coupon, so nobody is losing money but mattel, and they lost that anyway by letting a defective product out.

You have no idea what you're talking about. He's expressing his opinion, like the OP asked for. While I partially agree that he overused the coupon and that's wrong, but at the same time that's the cashier's fault for putting in the wrong amount. Overall, no reason for the OP to feel guilty.

I think it paid off in the end. You couldn't complete your Ricardo though. On a side note I hate when people are in front of you buying tons of one item like that and going back for more. I was in the Dollar store many years ago and there was a man and a woman with 2 carts full of Flashlights

Good for you. A multi billion dollar company that we all support as collectors can afford a mistake here and there. Esp one with such a bad rep as WM.

I see no wrong in this situation. It was the worker who Walmart trusted in that screwed up so therefore it is their problem. Besides, they screw other customers so they'll make up for the loss. It isn't like they can't afford the $11.97 difference since they are one of the largest retail companies in the world. Plus, they screwed America by putting other retailers out of business, therefore us being limited as to were to buy figures, and what figures our stores actually get. So F*CK Walmart.

That is a joke, Walmart will get the money back from the company because it is there voucher end of story. Jackass.

I meant claiming he was on "his high horse". He doesn't demean or insult the OP in the slightest bit. Just gives his opinion/thoughts, which is what was asked. No "high horse", just opinion. THAT'S where you have no idea what you're talking about.

THAT'S where you have no idea what you're talking about. Watching Daniel Tosh lol when I watch comedy it gets a little profane. And again, there is a grey area... as I said. Him acting appaled about it is what is funny. Just like when people post figure swaps.. how many of them do you think committed the swap? The user would have done the same thing the OP did. He just wants to act as if he has morals and that makes him a liar
