I'm thinking about diving into the world of G.I. Joe comics, but I'm a complete total 100% noob.
I had a bunch of the old RAH Marvel series when I was a kid and loved every page of them, sadly they are long gone...still a mystery as to how they disappeared.
My question is, does anyone still make G.I. Joe comics? with new stories, etc. Like continuing & active. Also are they based on the movie(s) or are they their own stand off.
Lastly, are they any good? Or should I search out a different era? thanks!

IDW makes a bunch of GI Joe comics. They just started with a new number 1s. The GI Joe Real American Hero book is a continuation of the old Marvel series by original writer Larry Hama.
Then there are 3 other books which have a different continuity. The newest GI Joe comic kind of felt like the cartoon. Then there are upcoming Special Missions which looks cool, and the Cobra Files book, which has grittier art but has been a really damn good book during it's first two volumes.
I thought the search for the new Cobra Commander, I think they were called Cobra Civil War, was pretty damn awesome. Of the four books, Cobra/Cobra Files is my favorite.
They have had a couple of mini-series which were based on the movies, prequels and adaptations.
IDW also makes some damn good Transformers comics, too.

thanks for that, much appreciated. I think I'd definitely be interested in the RAH continuation.

Another good read is if you can find the graphic novels of GI Joe vs. The Transformers. There are four volumes total.

They actually have reprinted every issue of the Marvel run in TPBs as well. 15 books of it, plus 4 books of Special Missions. There is a ton of stuff out there.

G.I. Joe Cobra by Christos Gage is probably the strongest of the IDW Joe stuff.
All the Marvel stuff is collected by IDW so that you don't have to pay an arm and a leg for those final issues.
That'd be my suggestion. I also didn't read the new #1 for G.I. Joe that came out 2 weeks ago, but a friend of mine with low expectations for it said he actually really enjoyed it.
