^ maybe a bit of both. But we shouldn't take anything away from Weidman... Anderson has done this sort of thing in the past to get inside fighter's heads - it just didn't work out this time. This is exactly the conclusion that everyone should come to when trying to analyze what went wrong with the fight. It's nothing that Weidman did that was spectacular, it's nothing that Silva did that was foolish. You can't jump down Silva's throat for dropping his gloves and "disrespecting" his opponent because that's the type of fighter he is. He plays mind games with his opponent. It's obviously worked before as we have seen in the Chael 2 fight, the Bonner fight, the Forrest fight, the Yushin fight etc. This time, that strategy just DIDN'T work the way he was planning. Now on the flip side....if Silva had done the exact same thing, but managed a victory? Would you still be calling him foolish for dropping his gloves and taunting his opponent? Probably not.

holy ing shit. Craziest moment in MMA I have ever seen. As far as I'm concerned, Silva would have had him no problem round 1 or 2 if he hadn't clowned around. As much of a stupid way it was to let a title change hands, especially from the best in the world, it was funny as hell. Was really surprised by his post fight interview too. It's as if he didn't even want to acknowledge it. Rest of the event was alright, nothing amazing as far as I'm concerned. Gotta say I was really impressed by the Cub Swanson finish though.

I thought Siver had won the first and could have argued a win for the 2nd, but Cub's speed caught up to him in the 3rd.

It's scary to think how Silva will be in his next fight if he turkey learned from this loss

I wonder if Silva will change his mind about not wanting a rematch - before the fight he said his main goal was to fight Roy Jones Jr (who was there on Saturday). DW seems to think that once the reality has set in, he'll want the Weidman rematch... but he did seem pretty uninterested in it in the post-fight interviews.

You look like an idiot posting that. The reality of it is, never will it be a good idea to stand with your hands down and let someone attempt to punch you in the face during a fist fight, it wasn't a good idea against Griffin, Bonnar or any other guy he has stepped in with to the cage with. The reality of it is, no matter how much of a doofus he acted like, he was able to pull off wins with ease making his opponent look on a lower level. This time is caught up to him. You goof off and get K.O'd, yeup you better expect some harsh words.

Silva is a tremendous fighter, but most of his fans are the most insane, butt hurt group of people ever with their excuses.

I love me an Anderson Silva fight, but I laughed for about a good 5 minutes after this one. I think I even said something after the first round about how he needs to cut it out in the second or else he was going to get caught with something.
Injured rib or not, he got clipped in the first fight with Chael. So it's not like it was ever "impossible" to knock him out.

Anyway, I'm not butthurt Silva fan, but that pic describes most people's reactions whether they want to admit it or not. Of course it's an unconventional way to fight. But he was so good at it and was able to use it to perfection that people accepted it as the "Anderson Silva" style of fighting. So please, don't sit there and act like people openly felt like Silva was fighting like a jackass when he was toying with Griffin, Bonnar and everyone in between. They didn't look down on it. They thought it was the greatest thing they'd ever seen. I'm not defending that fighting style. I'm just pointing out how incredibly fickle the general fanbase of this sport is. No one called him an idiot or a goof UNTIL he got caught. That's not calling it like it is. That called talking sh** because it's convenient. Had he successfully given Wiedman the Forrest Griffin treatment, NO ONE would be calling him a goof, or an idiot or any of that. They'd still be praising him at the GOAT.

"You look like" and "you are" are two different things, sorry to come of harsh. I've never heard anyone refer to it as his "style" people have always been like "he can finish it at anytime, he just does it toy with them." And when you have someone with that kind of ability where they can toy with someone it creates a buzz and it's damn impressive. And the reality of it is, people haven't always been okay with it, take the Maia fight, that pissed me and many others off. So it's a mixed bag, so when he decided to toy with another opponent and it back fired, people have a right to say it was a dumb move. Rogan's called him for keeping his hands down many a time and heck for all his trash talk Sonnen brought it up to. If you're going to fight in a manner where you don't respect an opponents stand-up ability at all and get KTFO for it, it's funny as hell! So for all the debating that's going on it came down to this. Did Anderson Silva act like a jackass like he does in everyone of his fights? Yes Did Anderson Silva get knocked the out because of acting like a jackass? Yes He doesn't get a pass because he is Anderson Silva, it becomes more of a joke because it finally caught up to him.

The fact is that there's no idiocy in posting that because it's true. People are acting like he actually went out there and did something completely different. He went out there and was Anderson Silva and he attempted to implement the Anderson Silva game plan. But people are reacting to it like he tried to Pele kick his opponent. People are REALLY going off like this isn't something he's become known for doing.

That's a good point about the Chael fight for whoever said that. The way Chael and Weidman clipped him is a lot alike. They aren't huge punches but they connect and hurt him. So it's not like he was impossible to KO at all it's just that not a lot of guys ever got or took that chance against him.

His USUAL gameplan didn't work this time and he paid for it. People are acting like it's the first time ever he's done crap like this. He's done it so many times and guess what? He's been on the best streak in the UFC. And then he loses to Wiedman (who I think is an amazing fighter and very much deserves to be the champ) and everyone goes off saying how stupid his game plan is when it's been working for him past fights.
Of course it's a bad idea to let your guard down but it's a risk he's willing to take to mentally breakdown his opponents. No one can sit there and tell me that it wasn't working for bit because even Wiedman said that he ditched his game plan of taking Silva down and just kept going stand up. Unfortunately for Silva, Wiedman's got great reach and boxing skills and got caught but it was working, Silva just couldn't capitalize on his opportunity.
and how do you know that he was disrespecting Wiedman's stand up skills?! That's utter bullshit. Both Silva AND Wiedman said that what Silva did wasn't disrespectful. He's probably thinking that he's the BETTER stand up fighter than most guys which he obviously is. Nothing about not respecting other fighter's skills, it's simply to throw fighters off their game which it was starting to work against Wiedman.

I know all the talk has been about the main event - but I thought it was really sad seeing Chris Leben like that... he just doesn't seem to have it anymore. He's always been one of my favorite fighters - I hope he and DW decide what's best for him... at the moment it looks like a bad KO waiting to happen.

I'm taking Silva in the rematch as well. I don't think there's a single person on this earth that can stop a fully 100% motivated Anderson Silva.

Agreed, it's the case of personal problems crippling his profession I think... I'd love for him to go out with one last win.
