Loved Mattel from when I first saw proto's. The figures were more detailed and a breath of fresh air

I was one of those people that said "I'm not starting a whole new collection". I did pretty good the first year, I didn't buy any Mattel figures or Jakks figures. One day I walked into Target and saw a couple of legend series 1,2 and 3 on clearance for 3.74 so I said what the heck let me buy a few, so I picked up bulldog, snuka,Roberts, and kamala. Ever since that day I've been collecting Mattel. I'm glad I jumped over to Mattel cause they make some of the best figures ever.

I was a hardcore Jakks collector - see my signature.... I used to stalk KB Toys like it was my job... darn, I miss KB Toys... I loved collecting all the Classic Superstars and Exclusives I could get my hands on...
When Jakks lost the contract, I was kind of running out of room to keep them.... wasn't thrilled with the WWE product, either. I think this was around the time Miz was champ?
I figured I'd stay with Jakks, for what few products they would come out with... heck, it would be less expensive to keep up with... then I saw the Terry Taylor Legend, and a few other crappy choices, and said WTF?
So I looked at Mattel - since I was mainly into collecting legends, and I didn't really like the selection OR the price (DM's were like 29.99) I wasn't really impressed with the scans either... so I decided to quit altogether...
Last year, my 4-year-old son and I started watching wrestling together - I saw a bit of improvement in the WWE product (well, at least, I liked a lot of the wrestlers better - guys like CM Punk, Cesaro, etc).... and he began wanting to get figures of the newer guys.... as I began figure shopping "for him", I noticed a big improvement in the Mattel Elite product, from the scans, the body types, and even the packaging - I'm now hooked again.
Due to space issues, I'm trying to limit myself to just getting ones I really like, but it's so hard... but I'm having fun trying to find creative ways to reconfigure my collection in order to fit more in...
And my son gets the benefits - as I hunt all over the place for legends (like Kevin Nash) I'm always picking up bargains I find for him - Basics, Rumblers, etc.... he's got quite a collection of his own started...
So, I don't have the money or the space to collect everything, but I like to get some good ones for my son to play with, and the "good ones" to add to my collection..

I wasn't a fan of Mattel at first. The heads were (and still are) painted poorly, and looked more like cartoon characters compared to Jakks. I also wasn't a fan of how skinny most of the torso and arms were as well as the poor head choices. For example, EG HBK's arms looking like toothpicks and his head being a modern scan seemed like Mattel really phoned it in parts wise. I did however love their shirts and accessories.
So I stayed away for the first few months until I got Elite 1 Punk from a trade on here, and that became my gateway to the Mattel line. I loved the color on the tattoos and the articulation of the figure. Wasn't a fan of the stiff kneepads, but I like that over time Mattel has listened to us and tried to fix things like the kneepads and loose ankle joints. I only see this line getting better and improving in the future.
I do wish I could go back in time and buy a crap load of Batista figures and Elite 7 shelfwarmers that are worth major money today.

I saw the protos, and it may have been a quick decision, but as soon as I did, I sold my Jakks collection. Had over 500+ Jakks wrestlers. Used all the money to pretty much buy all of the Mattel figures I wanted for the first year and a half.

From the beginning I was glad to see a wrestling toy line that was up to the market standard. Jakks did awesome scans, but had amateurishly sculpted bodies for the figures. Mattel not only reached market standard, they have since surpassed it. No other mass-market toy in the price range can compare.

Right from the very first images, I loved them. Those unpainted prototypes that turned up in late '08 or early '09 (was it that early?)... And then the first official images of the figures that had that wash effect on the paintjobs. I was hooked. Christmas '09 when folks in the US were finding them, I was so jealous and headed to toy shops every day hoping they'd hit early here too.

I was very ready for a change. I used to love Jakks but after awhile they became a one trick pony and the trick wasn't as impressive anymore. It was time to move on.
I loved the Mattel sculpts we saw. And I was sold on them right away. Then... we saw protos for series two of the two packs with the awful Miz/Morrison & the skinny Finlay. It scared me so much, I almost stopped right there. But I kept going and I'm glad I did, cause I love my collection.

I enjoyed collecting Jakks figures from the very beginning, but even when I was in middle school collecting the BCA line, it always bugged me that Jakks was so far behind what companies like McFarlane Toys were putting out. It seemed like they went with quantity over quality. I'm thrilled to have wrestling figures that are on par with lines like DCUC and Marvel Legends.

I was, I went out that day and picked up E1 CM Punk at Kmart and I've been hooked ever since. I actually didn't do too much Jakks collecting though once they switched from TTL to RA and CS. So I didn't have much resistance going into the situation, just basic curiosity.

I have been a fan of Mattel since day one. I really hadn't collected wrestling figures since the LJN days but Mattel brought me back full force.

I wasn't a fan of the protos when i first saw them, but i ended up buying Basic 1 Evan Bourne just because of the hype, and then I bought about 4 more mattels after that, (WMH 1 and Basic 2) and then I just stopped collecting until now.
I used to be loyal to Jakks, but mattel have some sort of weird charm about them.

I hated Mattel and didn't give them a try for awhile. I had about 350 Jakks RA figures though so I really didn't want to switch over and start again. Theres not even a comparison at this point though.

I thought they were great. I started out just getting Jericho, Bryan, and HBK.
Then got hooked.

i was excited, though hesitant at first. Jakks was very stale that last year and i had more or less called it a collection at that point (*note - collected jakks pretty consistantly since the dawn of real-scan tech).
My love for keeping an updated roster coupled with Jakks' total dropping of the ball on a few of my faves, including my first mattel purchase on 1/1/10 - Santino Marella (w/Beth Phoenix). Upon opening the 2pack, i was floored with the detail and overall feel of the figure. the plastic felt more expensive - and i liked that.
also, i am a fixer-upper of figs, and notced the possibilities right off the bat - how hands were no longer attached to wristbands, boots could be swapped without taking apart knees and worrying about shin-skin-tones... it just blew me away. within a week or so i owned a couple more basics (Sig. Series 0 Jericho, Santino) and most of Elite 1 (Punk, Taker, Edge and Rey).
I've been down with mattel since day one and my jakks collection (minus a couple of heads i've pulled for customs) is sitting neatly packed away in my basement while my mattels are prominantly displayed in my dining room.
now initially i didn't plan on going into the legends line at all, but with Steamboat and Macho Man i got a couple. then when the great clearance of legends 2 and 3 happened i scooped up both sets for pennies on the dollar, then series 4 and 5 and 6 (all of which again, i found at very reasonable prices) and now i'm having fun going back and filling in the few gaps i missed by not buying into the legends right off the bat.

Nope. From the images I saw I thought they looked cartoonish.
When I saw them in-store my mind changed instantly.

I was the opposite of most Jakks collectors. I collected Jakks from the BCA to R3. I starting collecting wrestling figures again in 2006, and I went with the DA and CSDA lines. I missed the CS line so I thought this was a great way to get guys I missed but with better articulation. Little did I know that this line was going to suck. Yes they had all the articulation I wanted out of a "wrestling" figure, but the details, scales issues, and same body parts was a little bit of a downer. Plus their CSDA line lack some key players, Ultimate Warrior stands out in my mind the most.
Once I saw the protos for Mattel I was stoked. I was a big DCUC and MOTUC collector already so I already knew the level of quality their offer in their figure lines.
I know prices have gone up, but the $14.99 tag (i wish it was still $14.99) didn't scare me. I collected CSDA which were the same price so I didn't mind at all.
My biggest fear at first was how big the figures were going to be. I had Jakks Real Scale WM1 and HitC Rings and I wanted to be able to still use those for display. Not only did they look great in those rings but Mattel ended up making a better one of those too. I kept my WM1 Ring, and Cell but I sold the Raw Ring that came with the cell in a lot with all my DA figures... to buy more Mattel figures.
I only collect Elites so waiting for some figures can be quite hasselsome, and the distribution does suck. But then again, distribution sucks for most of Mattel's lines but it's worth the trouble.

Since I took a hiatus from regularly watching WWE from 2005 to 2009(I was a huge TNA fan during that time), Mattel's takeover of the WWE license coincided with my return to being a WWE fan. I remember hearing about the new WWE Mattel line, and going into Toys R Us January 2010, to find Shawn Michaels and Batista from the first Signature Series. I was ecstatic. While I was always a fan of the Jakks series, Mattel was a breath of fresh air. God Bless Mattel.
