Im sure I'm a little late on this; but when/why did the carding for basic shrink size?

To keep cost down, I think. I kind of wish they would do the same with the Elite packaging, theirs is far to big.

At least they didn't shrink the figures.

I think it looks better imo. Plus why waste so much cardboard.

I honestly wish figures came in this size box, with a little tab to hang em up, it would save me soooo much room

I think the first smaller packages came with the basic 24 set. I love the smaller sized ones.

I loveee the new Basic boxes. Much much better than the oversized ones used series 1-23

I love the smaller packaging. I wish they'd go as small as possible for all lines. You cut down costs (more can be spent on the actual figure), you help the environment and you save both MOC collectors and stores room. Good news all around, IMO.

Yes, the elite packaging is smaller too. Started with E18.

If you hole a package from E12-E17 next to one from E18 or later you can tell. They used to be about 8" wide. Now it's only 7.5". Small change. Almost unnoticeable. I think I noticed because of my OCD about stuff like that.

Mattel is making smaller packaging to save on costs to keep their prices down so that they can make more profit for selling figures at the same price or more. They aren't going to pass along the savings to us.

It doesn't seem like much, but just rounding one corner on every figure has to cut overall carboard costs quite a bit.

I don't mind the smaller packaging so hopefully they stick with it. When i open figures and throw it in the trash it takes a lot less room in the can. I just feel kind of bad for MOC collectors b/c they appear to be harder to find nice cards.

I just feel kind of bad for MOC collectors b/c they appear to be harder to find nice cards. I think it is harder for us MOC peeps for sure. Little things like wrinkled corners or even a razor blade mark down the back of a card from the employees opening the box has made me pass on numerous figures.
