A sad day 30 years ago as the Macho Man departs the WWF. I really thought he was going to be a WWF lifer. He did some great things in WCW, but it just felt off in a hard to explain way.

A sad day 30 years ago as the Macho Man departs the WWF. I really thought he was going to be a WWF lifer. He did some great things in WCW, but it just felt off in a hard to explain way. One of the biggest wasted opportunities in a period of wasted opportunities was moving Savage from being one of the main in-ring talents to the commentary booth. He was the perfect person to facilitate them moving more smoothly between having the jacket-up bodies dominated the top of the card to having the smaller guys take that spot. He could easily have spent most of 1993 at the top end/main event of the cards working with Razor and a heel Luger, rather than wrestling Repo Man for his stolen hat and having to listen to Rob Bartlett.
In any case, I found it distinctly odd seeing him wrestling under the WCW banner, same goes for Hogan. Irrespective of whether it was good to have Hogan outside of the WWF to allow others a chance in the spotlight or not, it just "felt wrong" to see these WWF figureheads now wrestling for the competition, same with Hennig, Piper and eventually Bret too.
