Hey, just wondering how many prog fanatics are here on the forums? I've been a huge fan ever since I got my dad's old Pink Floyd cassettes when I was really young.
I was hoping to find some similar minded people here to discuss our likes. I'm positively nuts over King Crimson, I have all their albums and several live cd's too. To date, they are the only band that I have multiple pressings of the same album on Cd and Vinyl. I love their style of music, despite not being nearly as big of a fan of UK prog in general. I find myself listening to many Italian groups such as Museo Rosenbach, Alphataurus, Perigeo, Premiata Forneria Marconi, Cervello, Banco Del Mutuo Soccorso, Maxaphone, Goblin, and Osanna. I can't get enough of that sound!
Anyway, WFigs Prog fans, sound off! Who do you like, and what scene are you a fan of? Remember, there was even a progressive scene in Canada and South Africa at one point.

Love me some prog. King Crimson, Rush, Tool, Porcupine Tree. Just to name a few I was so pissed, that I missed the opportunity to see Crimson on their last tour in 2008. I tried to get tickets for the Nashville show (the closest to me) and they were sold out. They had Gavin Harrison of Porcupine Tree as their drummer then. I hope they do one more tour of the US before they are too old. A new studio album would be nice, too.

I'm a really big prog fan. Obviously Pink Floyd and King Crimson are up there. I dig Tool and Dream Theater is one of my favorite bands. Transatlantic is always really fun to listen to as well. Rush as well... Giant Rush fan though I've seen prog fans get into huge arguments over other prog fans saying Rush is prog... But if they aren't prog I don't know what they are.

Never got into Rush that heavy, but I accept them as progressive. The term was never implicitly meant to define one key sound, so much as an overall feel of the music. If Procol Harum is prog, then by golly Rush is, too!

I was using one that a friend had gotten from his Grandmother when she passed. He said I could have it, but I wasn't able to take it with me when I moved. I just need to bite the bullet and buy a new one.

Anybody whose looking for something a little different should definitely check out the Italian progressive powerhouse 'Perigeo'. Italian progressive is such a unique style, it most certainly deserves a subgenre much like 'Zeuhl', 'Canterberry', 'Psych', or 'Space Rock'. I just recently got this album and can't stop listening to it:

Anybody else nab the King Crimson Record Store Day exclusive? I got mine, but haven't opened it yet. It has a poster, t-shirt, a graphic novel from the group 'The Vicar' (which I don't know much about at all except it's on their label or something to that effect) and a ten track live compilation from the Collector's Club.
EDIT: Looked up 'The Vicar'. Still couldn't tell you what the hell (apparently) he is. He supposedly was in a high profile band and co-writes something with Fripp or something. Anyone who's ever read Fripp's writing can attest that the man is very odd. This mystery/pseudo semi-autobiographical story might be interesting to read, but ultimately probably won't be anything I re-read.

I see some on ebay for around that price.

Not so much Progressive Rock itself, but I'm into classic rock for sure. I grew up on Country, evolved into Hip Hop, found and loved Dance Music and now that i'm almost 30 years old, the only music i chose to play anymore is Classic Rock. I'll listen to anything from 95 and earlier.
Led Zepplin Rick Derringer Metallica Lynyrd Skynyrd Rush Boston Poison Pearl Jam Nirvana Soundgarden Tom Petty you name it and i'll listen to it as long as its rockin from the 80's or 90's.

Progressive is my main thing, but I love Southern Rock and classic country a lot. I have most of Tom Petty's stuff. I also do a lot of Jazz and Jazz Fusion, and some (mostly old) hip-hop. I inexplicably have a taste for 80's new wave. You can turn to any variety radio station and not stump me. I know at leas the chorus to every song from the 90's back on the radio.
