U.S. employees set to be forced to give bosses their Facebook PASSWORDSAn attempt to ban US bosses from asking employees to hand over their Facebook login details has been blocked by Congress. A last minute alteration to the controversial Cyber Intelligence Sharing and Protection Act (CISPA) that would have prevented employers demanding that prospective employees disclose social media passwords as a condition of employment was voted down in the house of representatives. The proposal, put forward by Democrat Ed Perlmutter was defeated by a 224-189 majority, according to the Huffington Post. What's the big deal if they have it?
It gives employers an idea of what you're like outside of an interview setting.I personally could care less, I have nothing to hide on my account.

This only gives those creepy bosses permission to further creep on certain employees. That passing would be uncalled for and only cause backlash.

I don't use FB however I think it is stupid they can demand this information..
They need to stop being creepy and let people have some privacy.

I know there's a "rights" argument behind all of this, but in my own situation, they can have it. There's not a thing I've posted that is of any concern on FB, or any website that makes me thing "Oh ****, I could get fired for that."
Plus, they already know I hate the place. Secret's out.

I'm fairly certain that I'm more surly and belligerent at work, about work, than I am on any social media outlet. That said, if you're foolish enough to post anything on Facebook that could get you fired/cost you a job, you probably shouldn't be online at all, since you clearly don't understand the ramifications of posting anything online.

I don't really have an issue with my boss reading my status updates, posts, etc. But for them to have my password to access personal messages, and account activity is beyond anything necessary to an employer.

Imagine this situation, hypothetically:
You are a homosexual male working in an office environment. You have a Facebook account which is set to "private," meaning only your friends and family members can see/interact with you. You have not yet "come out" as being a homosexual to your co-workers.
Your boss demands access to your account, which he or she then uses to find out that you are, indeed, a homosexual.
Now your boss gets drunk at the company Christmas party and starts telling other people that you are gay. Not in a, "we're going to fire him" kind of way, but just letting people know.
In this situation, you've done nothing that should warrant you getting fired, but your entire life could change based on the fact that something you do in your PRIVATE life has become a matter of public knowledge.
