Hi guys,
Just looking for some tips on how to clean or re store second hand action figures... I generally can't afford to buy brand new figures so normally wait until they hit the sales or get them in used condition off eBay.
For example I have a Jakks deluxe Stone Cold and its a great figure but his face is covered in red felt tip..... Any clues on how to remove it?
I take great pride in my collection so I'd love to be able to clean some of them up a bit and thought someone on here would be able to help.

Goof Off is great for removing paint and scuffs, then use a Mr. Clean Magic Eraser to remove the shine that the Goof Off leaves. As far as simple cleaning use liquid hand soap of dish washing liquid, lukewarm water, and a toothbrush. Soak the figure in the warm, soapy water for 5-10 minutes, then use the toothbrush to lightly scrub the figure. Afterward, just lay out a towel on the counter or dining table and place the figures on it to dry. I hope that helps.

Thanks for the toothbrush tip! I've been doing the same thing when I get dirty figures, but I've been using a washcloth instead. The toothbrush has to be easier to use. Dawn dish soap gets most markings off of figures.

Toothbrush works for me. Once in a while I "bathe" them in boiling water to sterilize them from dirt and dust.

I'm glad I could help someone. Yes, Dawn works fine. Someone said not to use anything with moisturizers though. Supposedly, it can make the figures feel greasy. Just be sure to only give the figure a gentle scrubbing with the brush. It doesn't take much to get the job done, and you don't want to run the risk of damaging the figure.

Also to add what the others have said. If you plan on touching up missing paint, do the same washing before you paint. You can even sand the area lightly. Mattel figures have a lot of oils on them straight out of the package and it's trickey to get paint to adhere to the surface. And don't use any kind of paint you can buy at wal-mart. (Apple barrel, folk art)

Sting paints his face with apple barrel dude. As seen on Impact when he poured it all over hogan. It drys like a latex skin and peels off with ease. Sealer barely helps if at all! |

For paint marks I use nail polish remover and it works great on Mattel figures. For actual logos and factory painted stuff on figures nail polish remover can work but it takes a lot of work to get rid of it.

Magic eraser has done wonders on the dirty hasbro lots I used to get.
