I've just recently gotten into UFC. God knows I love pro wrestling but I was searching for some unpredictable combat sport entertainment and it led me to this which I can say I've thoroughly enjoyed what very little I've seen thus far.
I just purchased the 100 greatest fights blu-ray and wondered what the opinion of the long term fan is on it.
Also if you could suggest anything else I should look into that would be greet.
Oh I also bought undisputed 3 for the 360 and I can't wait to play it!

Start from UFC 1 and work your way up. Unfortunately, Zuffa has yet to release a UFC anthology so you will have to piecemeal it. www.amazon.com/UFC-Ultimate-Fight-Collection-2012/dp/B0090EDEQE/ref=pd_cp_mov_1These Ultimate Fight Collections look to be reasonable. Looks like only main card fights, but then again you're most likely not a bettor, so you don't need prelims. If you want that stuff, the Internet is your dealer.

If it's mainly the more modern UFC stuff you like, you could check out the "Best of..." yearly DVDs - they normally show all the best fights (or highlights) of that year and the main stories. I think they started with "Best Of 2007" and have done one every year since...

I've heard the early stuff is great. I'd like to see that too Ooh, in that case... see if you can get hold of: UFC Night Of Champions (great compilation of early stuff... only available on VHS though) UFC Hits: Vol.1 and Vol. 2 (separate DVDs... highlights of early events/fights, before Zuffa bought the UFC) UFC: Ultimate Royce Gracie (great profile and fights of the first UFC champ and "Godfather" of MMA) There are also multi-regional 5-disc DVD boxsets on eBay of the early events too: UFC 1-10,11-20, 21-30 and also 31-37 - lots of UFC goodness!

I don't think you necessarily have to go through all of them starting from UFC 1, but I suppose more UFC is never a bad thing. UFC 66 was the first event I've ever watched, and have been watching ever since. I've never seen the greatest fight DVD, but I believe it only goes up to 2009 right? There have been many great fights since then, but one I absolutely have to throw out there is Shogun vs Dan Henderson at UFC 139. Definitely a must watch when you get the chance.

Yea, I wouldn't go all the way back to UFC 1 at all. Early MMA's boring fights are way worse than today's boring fights. I'll put Dan Severn vs. Kimo from one of the first PRIDE shows against any horrible fight of the past 10 years.
That said, lets get some positivity going. You already bought the 100 greatest whatever set, and god damn, that's the one to own. Hours and hours of entertainment on there. Don't exclude other things just because they're not the UFC, though. There's excellent fights from the now defunct PRIDE orginazation (think of it as MMA's WCW.) Wanderlei Silva, Fedor Emelianenko, Shogun Rua, Rampage Jackson, Kazushi Sakuraba, all of them are PRIDE all stars. There's some DVD sets out there that include every numbered PRIDE event (other than a select few, maybe three of them, must have been licensing issue) and they're incredible to own. Check out Amazon, hopefully they're dirt cheap nowadays.
Bellator puts on some great events, too. I very rarely watch Bellator, but when I do get around to it, I'm usually entertained. The MMA community around here (WF) can always use more members, so welcome to our little cult. Beware, though, that MMA fans can be just as idiotic and immature as wrestling fans.
Bad Blood: Liddell vs. Ortiz, Couture vs. Liddell Trilogy, and Ice Man: The Best of Chuck Liddell are three good retrospective DVDs. Chuck was a killer back in his day, it's hard to find a Chuck Liddell fight that isn't awesome.

I think you are off to a good start with that box set. But one thing to remember, you are going to see great fight after great fight on there. Not every live show is going to give you something of that caliber, so don't let that discourage you. I would say if you had all the time in the world, then go back & watch from the earliest date you can. I started with UFC 46 & never looked back. I got one of my buddies hooked on them & he signed up for Netflix & started getting his hands on everything they had.

But this was a few years ago, & I don't use Netflix so I don't know what their inventory looks like now. I started working for blockbuster in 2004 & we had a lot of the older stuff in store, & employees were given free online subscriptions. You might want to try them too. Who knows, by now they could be streaming them through their services. I just checked Blockbuster's site, they have about 100 different shows available for rent.

UFC was great when they first started. It was an awesome spectacle. It had a tournament in which multiple weight divisions participated 3 fights per night. It truly determined who the best fighter was. These days its more like boxing with only 1 fight per night and weight divisions.

I do like the UFC however. If you look at some older stuff such as Pride or Strikeforce you'll find that there maybe more entertainment. Pride was a Japanese MMA fighting league that UFC now own the rights to. Pride was very brutal to say the least!

Undisputed 3 is by far the best game in the series, and the best MMA game out thus far.
What kind of TV provider do you have? I know some have On-Demand content for channels like Fox or Fox Sport 1, which would have some UFC Content.
I'd also suggest some of the "Best Of" annual DVDs as those tend to: A. Have a fair amount of fights from that year, including backstage type footage. B. Be fairly cheap, depending on where you get it. I'd suggest FYE or Wal Mart. C. Usually has some of if not the best fights of that year.
While I'm with others on here in saying that watching every UFC from the beginning might be a little boring, I'd still suggest at least some of the early Royce Gracie fights.

They always put on stacked shows - with at least 2-3 marquee fights... I do like the UFC however. Pride was very brutal to say the least! Yeah - if anyone's new to MMA/PRIDE, check out the awesome PRIDE: Fighting Decade documentary... it has some amazing fights - and finishes with the Hendo/Silva battle from PRIDE 33 (...in fact, check out PRIDE 33 too - one of the best MMA cards ever). I don't think the documentary is on DVD - but it's easily available if you *ahem* know where to look...

Welcome to becoming a fan of mma. If you're looking for a specific fighter to follow there are plenty of them. It depends on what you like as far as the fight goes. Do you fancy a brutal knockout or a slick submission? Do you like a technical battle or a straight up brawl? One of my favorite fights I always tell new fans to check out is Anthony Pettis vs. Ben Henderson from WEC 53. Title fight with a lot of great back and forth action. I'd also check out Jon Jones vs. Alexander Gustafson from UFC 165. That fight won fight of the year last year. Just a few suggestions for a new fan.
