I would buy if it was a set with like 4 flashback first timers and 2 Current Roster ones or maybe even at 3 Past and 3 Present guys but no other than that I would not be interested.

There aren't enough current roster guys (who aren't already announced for an elite series) to make it appealing. But sure, if it was something like:
Hulk Hogan Ric Flair Kurt Angle Razor Ramon or Goldberg Fandango Big E

Dean Ambrose Seth Rollins Roman reigns Fandango Bray Wyatt (since hell b a reg in tv soon and it takes about a year to make a new fig so there's time to create him) Big E Langston That sounds good to me for first time in the line elites but sim emthe shield has basic gonna drop first I would say Fandango Bray Wyatt Big E Langston X-PAC Doink the clown

I think people misunderstood his idea. He didn't say current superstars, he just said for Mattel to do figures that they have not done before. I think its a great idea personally! But I can also see why Mattel has their current business model as well. Maximize revenue, makes sense.

That would be cool but there's not enough wrestlers that would be big enough names that would sell to the younger figure collecting audience. Now if they had a basic but not an elite figure that'd be easier. I could see a set of Billy Gunn, Road Dogg, X-Pac, Big E Langston, Fandango, and Bray Wyatt but we'll be getting Big E and Fandango soon and Wyatt's about 7 months away from a figure so I think this would be cool but highly unlikely.

We the collectors would, sure, but I'm guessing it would bomb at mass market due to what everyone else is pointing out, the simple fact that there are not enough big names to draw in that money. So hypothetically, yes, but in reality, Mattel's business model works in their eyes and I doubt that they'd change it.
EDIT: I would like Rey to stop being in every 2-3 sets. Despite being an okay seller, he fares a lot better in the basic line. I can still find E15 Rey Mysterio a year later, and plenty of stores still have E18. E21 I'm sure will be no different. That irks me that he is hogging a space of someone who, admittedly, may or may not warm, but you never know until you pack one in and try. The fact remains that we don't have a David Otunga Elite despite all the t.v. time he'd had for years. I remember Rey selling well for the first year, but let's examine shall we? Elite 1 and Elite 5. That's it, and then, after Elite 5, there wasn't another until 11. E11 would've sold great if it hadn't only just reached shelves in time for the Best of Figure to saturate shelves. Everybody wonders where the best of Elite line went, but when they pack it full of guys who had just been released in the line instead of acknowledging that 2011 is 12 months long, well, it doesn't take a genius...
