So today I went with my fiancee to see This is The End, so when we get to the mall there's this HUGE line inside the theater, and as i buy my tickets i ask what's the line about? nonetheless it was for wwz, as i am about to walk away some lady asks if i wanted tickets to see the movie, because it was an early screening, so i was like hell yeah! lol
anyways
the movie was awesome, so well thought and it wasn't just a summer action movie about zombies, the movie actual had a realistic story with a great end to it, not going to give it much details, but overall, the fast zombies were pretty cool, and didn't bother me at all, and brad pitt did a great job on his role. Also the special effects were beyond awesome, i saw the 3-d version, and as much as i don't usually like it, it was pretty cool, but, what can i say? it was FREE! lol
definitely one of the best movies of the year, very worth seeing!

I refuse to see it. I absolutely LOVED the book and the only thing the movie shares is the name. As different as it looks, they really should have just changed the name to something different. I don't think I've ever been as let down as I was when I saw the first trailer for it.

Yeah loved the book too much for some Hollywood movie to cheaply cash in on the name. Nothing about this movie looks good to me. Nothing.

Currently finishing up the book and, as others have mentioned, it's blatantly obvious that it will only share the name and basic premise and nothing more. Truly adapting the novel would be a daunting task, and I'm not sure it would translate very well.
With that being said, I'm still intrigued and planning on seeing it. I'll just pretend it's a different entity entirely.

I dont want to see it based on what I've seen in the trailers. The CGI zombies pile up as if they were waves of water and that looked so dumb to me. Plus I cant stand Brad Pit or his ugly wife.

I understand hollywood usually changes a book when its made into a movie, but this is so far from the movie its ridiculous. If they wanted a action movie, they could have said this was a prequel to World War Z, which would have made more sense or drop the tie in to the book altogether.

I didn't finish the book yet, but they incorporate a lot of the book into the movie. A bunch of direct quotes too which was cool. And it couldn't have been like the book, at least not what Ive read so far. It would have just been people retelling their stories, which works in a book format. But I think this route is better for film. You still get a lot of what the book had to offer and it offers up characters for you and you kind of follow those stories as they're happening instead of afterwards.
Since the trailer came out I saw a lot of people complaining that the book and movie were so different but think about the book, do you really think it would translate well into a movie without changing the format? Jumping from part to part with nothing really tying it together? I think this was their best bet. Look at the book as its tagline "an oral history" and the movie as more of a "currently happening" story. It was a very well done zombie movie and I think you're foolish if you don't see it.
It's the first time in my experience with zombie stories, whether it be movies, TV, video games or books, where I've sat and said.. "ya know what, I don't think I would survive if that happened now". All other zombie things I've easily seen myself surviving. This movie shows how chaotic it could be and really had me thinking about how I would fair in this world.

The fact that the zombies rush around and pile up like waves of water kills it for me. In the book, they are the classic slow, shambling zombies. I think it could have worked if they stuck with the book. It could have been told through flashbacks. That's one thing I loved so much about the book. It was told through so many different perspectives and wasn't focused on just one guys involvement in the war.

I heard awhile back that Brad Pitt hated doing the movie. Not sure if its true, but if the main actor dislikes it, it must be pretty bad.

Saw this earlier today. It was alright, but nothing special. A lot of questionable decisions were made from the characters. I haven't read the book and really have no knowledge of it's contents, but I would hope it would have had to deal with an actual war more so than a man's journey to find a cure. I was expecting a war movie with zombies...maybe that was my fault. Either way, it had it's moments but I feel like it will ultimately be forgettable. I was happy that the zombies weren't always CGI'd, which I was almost expecting. That brought up the scare value of the movie.
6/10. The story had promise, but I feel like it was pretty anti-climactic.

Never read the book. But the movie looks like a crappy generic "fast zombie and guns" movie. Zombie movies need suspense and danger. Not just an hour of brad Pitt constantly unloading his Heavy Machine Gun into waves of zombies like Rambo.

I just saw World War Z tonight. I"m a huge fan of the book, which I've read so many times that I can almost quote it. I know there is no way to properly cover the book unless they made a 25 hour movie so my expectations were for something that took a few good chapters from the book and wove them into an enjoyable two hour story that left room for sequels to flesh out the unused material. Too bad it didn't even come remotely close. This movie is full of problems that would cause a stand alone zombie apocalypse movie to suck. It is made worse since it shares a name with one of the best zombie books ever written.
Problem 1: The zombies in the book are the traditional slow moving just want to eat the living type; the zombies in the movie are not. Problem 2: Our hero keeps surviving mainly because he is constantly surrounded by people who are willing to die for him; he does very little heroic until the almost laughable third act where he gets to be the hero thanks to random luck. Problem 3: The aforementioned laughable third act. It is a complete joke. I don't even know where to start in describing how bad it is. Problem 4 (spoilers): Zombie hordes will run full force over or through buses, blindly run off buildings, climb all over each other to scale 50 foot high walls yet they will completely avoid a single human that they don't find tasty. WTF!?!?!? Just because they won't eat them doesn't mean they won't do a running of the bulls style charge right over them. Problem5 (spoilers): If you are going to retain elements from the book don't completely f*ck them up. Jerusalem does not fall, certainly not because of one idiot with questionable access to a PA system. This whole sequence pissed me off.
Anyway, IMHO zombie genre fans should just wait for the fall season of Walking Dead for their next zombie fix. World War Z was an overblown CGI fest summer action film that fell flat.
I really hope Max Brooks can get the rights back so he can sell them to HBO, AMC, BBC or even SyFy to produce a proper full length mini-series of his book. It deserves way better than what this film gives.

Saw this one today. I enjoyed it.
Might not have been the best zombie movie I've ever seen but it certainly wasn't the worst either. It was different...in a good way.

Saw it Sunday night, I must say I was impressed with the story but I didn't get the reasons for why the Israeli bald girl was still with him throughout the rest off the film.
Gonna buy the book for my flight.

Heard the ending to this movie and it seems so laughably bad that it should be on Syfy. What series will this director ruin next?
