I should be seeing this later today with my cousin. I hope it is good but I don't have super high expectations or anything.

Saw it last night. Having read the book, I went into it with a completely open mind and more or less settled on the idea that I would view it as a completely separate entity.
With that being said, I really enjoyed it. It was a fun summer blockbuster, nothing more, nothing less. It's pretty void of any resemblance of the book, especially in the zombie department, and I would have preferred a more true adaptation (not fragmented, interview style segments, mind you, but more in the way of the behavior of the zombies and the underlying social and political commentary.)
Personally, I think it would be been better off dropping the World War Z name entirely, but I guess there's just enough in there to warrant the "based on" tag.

I plan on seeing this at some point, probably a redbox rental because I don't go to the movies too often. I know there's a lot of mixed reactions of the movie (because the book is held in such high regards) but I'm sure it will be a LOT better than some of the crap zombie movies out there.
Pro Wrestlers VS. Zombies...I'm looking at you.

Went and saw this last week. Solid action/thriller, but with a few problems. So many stupid characters and a lot of the close ups on the zombies gave my whole theatre a laugh. Especially the zombies at the WHO. The theatre couldn't stop giggling. But, it was still an enjoyable film, and I don't regret seeing it so I'll give it a solid 7/10.

^ Yeah the zombie in the WHO that Pitt's character stares at was pretty funny.
LOL at the zombie lady in the hallway who kept banging her shoulder into the wall.. @_@
It was a pretty good for a summer movie. I'd say around 7.5/10.

I saw it yesterday, I didn't really want to (plus it was 3D) but it turned out to be better than I expected.
Although I didn't get into it so much until the plane crash as I felt the trailers had shown far too much up before that ...and my friend had played the trailer dozens of times...
But overall I thought it was pretty good and Brad Pitt (who I don't particularly like) played a good role.
Also, the woman who got her hand cut off was a bad ass.

They were laughing during the WHO scenes at my screening too. I could understand laughing at the one with the Silence of the Lambs type teeth chattering but nothing else really. I haven't read the book so couldn't judge the film versus that so in the end I found it hugely entertaining and engrossing.

From what everyone has said I can probably assume this may be one of the worst book adaptations ever? Not worst movie, but worst adaptation.

From what everyone has said I can probably assume this may be one of the worst book adaptations ever? Not worst movie, but worst adaptation. It depends on how you look at it, really. I'm of the belief that trying to truly adapt the book and remain faithful to the style would likely be detrimental to the product it produced. I don't think the interview/flashback style could have possibly engrossed a wide enough audience to warrant producing with a massive budget. If it was going to be done that way, the only way to do it would have been to go all out, and I simply don't believe they would have had the support of the studio. With that being said, the adaptation is so incredibly loose that, save for the overall concept of a worldwide zombie war and a few nuances here and there, it's best to just view it as a separate entity entirely. It just barely warrants the "based on" tag, in my opinion. I think I enjoyed it much more by subscribing to that belief. One of the biggest elements from the book that I felt could have been implemented into the film was the social and political commentary. The film felt very safe - a true, traditional summer blockbuster unwilling to really push the envelope. Additionally, I felt most of the changes to the behavior of the zombies themselves were unnecessary. I like my zombies slow and methodical, not running and chattering.

Never read the book. But the movie looks like a crappy generic "fast zombie and guns" movie. Zombie movies need suspense and danger. Not just an hour of brad Pitt constantly unloading his Heavy Machine Gun into waves of zombies like Rambo. This is an absolutely PERFECT example of ignorance, ladies and gentlemen. Way to go guy.
