Show is more athletic, but also 4 inches shorter than Andre. Actually Andre was greatly over billed. He was no taller than 6 foot 10. Back problems caused him to lose a few inches (through deterioration and surgery) in the 1980s.

Big Show. Andre had the aura about him for the fact that he was an attraction. He went from territory to territory, never sticking around long. Since people didn't see him week after week, it was an event when he showed up.
Hell, Vince even knew this and had Andre stand on a box for interviews to make him even bigger.
That being said, the disease he had made his ability in the ring limited. Bear hugs, throws, slaps.
Big Show did drop kicks in WCW.

Andre for me. All day.
The respect. The auora. Plus he was pretty good in his prime. It was just a different era and style then.
Big Show doesn't even come close. Not even on the same wavelength. It's like comparing Curt Hennig to El Dandy.
Just my opinion though.

I just don't think people will look back at Big Show's career the same way they do Andre's. Andre is remembered for being larger than life and one of the biggest (literally) pro wrestlers of all time. Everybody knows who Andre the Giant was. If you say "Big Show" to a stranger they probably won't have a clue what you are talking about. Big Show will be remembered for being just another big guy. Andre is remembered for being THE big guy.

Lotta respect for Andre, but due to no fault of his own, he moved like he was walking in jello. Big Show was so quick and agile for his size during his prime. Andre was just a spectacle because of his era. Khali would have done great in the 70's and 80's.

The Andre we saw at WM3 was a lot different to the Andre 5 or so years before.

damn straight.....Andre was pretty mobile at WM1.
but theres a hell of decline every year from then on out.....its very noticeable how slow he is at WM2.then as AF astutely comments it gets progressively worse every year.

Yeah I think Andre has a better aura about him, however Big Show has a better move set in my opinion.

Taking the term 'greater' to mean who has the biggest legacy, the largest impact on the business, the most memorable matches/moments, and will all round go down as the more important and legendary wrestler, it's Andre without even a second thought. I do however feel that Show is probably more talented, and that Andre's status in comparison to Big Show is almost entirely down to the different eras they performed in.

Big Show wishes he had Andre's aura. Show may be technically better in many aspects, but Andre was always booked/promoted/protected better than Big Show has in his career. As far as name value or historical significance goes, I don't think there's any contest. I think that's because of the times though; if Andre had been around now he wouldn't have had 1/10th of the unbeaten run that he did have. Andre just got lucky in the sense that he was there first when things took so much longer to develop. If Andre didn't want to lose, he didn't. His unbeaten streak would have lasted as long as he wanted it too. However, Andre's unbeaten streak was very, very embellished. He would job while in territories, but it wouldn't become a national known loss because of the regional sectionalization of wrestling at the time. Jerry Lawler tells a great story about Andre jobbing to him in It's Good to be a King..... Sometimes. Lawler was put on the front cover of Pro Wrestling Illustrated with a busted up Andre and a title something to the extent of "Giant Killer". A meeting of the NWA was called and the issue of PWI was brought up as one of the things "killing pro wrestling".

Although I'm pretty sure that Hulk Hogan once said Andre was 10'6 and 7 tons when he body slammed him at WM3.

That doesn't sound right, I think Andre was closer to 7.5 tons.

The greater giant was Andre, no question. The better wrestler is The Big Show. Andre was truly unique and how crazy is it that he used to jump off the top ropes?? Just the thought of that is still crazy to me. Check out the Steel cage matches with Kamala and Big John Studd if you don't believe me. It was crazy to see Andre the Giant leap off the top ropes!!

It all depends on the way you look at the two giants. They're both completely different. Who's the bigger star? Andre. Who's the better wrestler? Big Show. Who was greater? Again, it's just the way you look at it.

Andre is a legend no doubt, but I never got what everyone saw in him. Could have been me growing up in a completely different era too though. Big Show wins it for me. Always been a fan and I still think next he's the best big man of all time.

Andre for me. He had a larger than life persona, and was a top draw throughout the world. Big Show is has always been a mid-card guy in WWE, and often just used to elevate others. He has been booked better recently. I understand saying Show is the better wrestler, but combining everything, it is Andre for me and not close.
