LIVE from the American Airlines Arena in Miami, Florida!
WFWF WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP MATCH
Scarlett Quinn © vs. Shawn Malakai
At Psycho Circus Scarlett Quinn shocked the world by becoming one of the youngest, and one of the only female, wrestlers in WFWF history to win the World Championship. It was a moment to be savoured, a moment to remember for all the right reasons… or at least it should have been. Instead Shawn Malakai crashed the party and announced that he would be challenging for the title at the forthcoming pay per view, this pay per view in fact, Battleground. That’s cool, no biggie right? A challenge is a challenge. Well not exactly, because Shawn Malakai has gone out of his way to make this one more than just about the title. Even if we leave out the connections with Trace Demon and Xavier Pierce’s power struggle Malakai has still done everything he can to try and get under Scarlett’s skin. Be it bringing in reinforcements in the form of Thunder and David Williams or every trying to make it look like Scarlett’s own father, the famous Wayne McGurk, had chosen Malakai’s side over his own daughter’s, every move that Malakai has made has been crafted perfectly to send Scarlett over the edge and entering this match at a considerable psychological disadvantage.
Of course that also poses a problem for Shawn Malakai, because as we all know you can’t poke an animal with a stick and not expect it to get pissed off, and let me assure you Scarlett Quinn is pissed off. But that isn’t the only problem Shawn Malakai has to worry about, because while he’s got his little entourage Scarlett has some friends of her own, and we’re talking about two names that will put the fear of god into most ordinary people – Wayne McGurk and Trace Demon. Yes, this week on Revolution Wayne, after making a surprising return to the ring in a losing effort to his daughter, gave her his blessing, boosting her confidence and her settling her psyche. Trace Demon meanwhile placed Shawn Malakai in a handicap match that most definitely weakened the challenger somewhat. So if you think Shawn Malakai is the man holding all the cards then you’re dead wrong, because this one is going to be closer than anybody thinks. It’s Scarlett Quinn, the most dangerous and effective women in professional wrestling, going one on one with Shawn Malakai, who knows full well that this might be his final opportunity to become the WFWF World Champion, a title that has eluded him all these years. There’s so much on the line and only one can walk out the winner.
But who?
BATTLEGROUND MATCH
Trace Demon, Reverend Shadow, Penny Shannon & Joe Bishop vs. Yukio Blaze, Mak Cross, Cam Nitta & Devilkiller
The war between Trace Demon has been on-going for months now. Starting out with Trace Demon extorting himself the king of contract that would make even EBR blush all those months ago Trace has done everything he can to make Xavier’s time as the owner of the WFWF a difficult one. Of course it’s a role that the current WFWF International Champion wears well, Xavier isn’t the first authority figure he has rebelled against and we doubt he’ll be the last, but this time Trace Demon has certainly upped the stakes. Last month Trace proved himself a step ahead of Xavier Pierce by outright stealing ownership over 50% of the WFWF. Xavier was rightly outraged but could do little but try to coexist with Trace Demon for the sake of the WFWF. As it turned out coexisting with a madman isn’t an easy thing to do. Every time Xavier would try to do something good for business Trace would do something equally as reckless and reputation-destroying. So it all came to a head when Trace Demon suggested the kind of solution that only his twisted mind could come up with – a four on four elimination tag team match inside of an inescapable steel cell. The prize? Complete control over the WFWF.
Both men have assembled their teams, but neither can be called entirely conventional. On Trace’s side you have the co-owner and WFWF International Champion himself. Trace hasn’t lost a match in nigh on fifteen months and he’s coming in hot, but for once he can’t just rely on his own skills. On his side stand Joe Bishop, a man who hasn’t hidden his desire for Trace’s International Championship, Penny Shannon, the craziest riot girl around who’s alliance with Trace seems to have become tense, and Reverend Shadow, who made his shocking return last week on Revolution. Xavier Pierce meanwhile has his own risky line up consisting of Cam Nitta and Mak Cross, two friends and tag team partners who have been having problems for weeks now, WFWF National Champion Devilkiller, who Trace claims doesn’t care about Xavier Pierce but simply about getting his fifteen minutes in the spotlight, and then there’s Yukio Blaze, who hasn’t appeared since Trace bashed his head in and hung him above the ring at the last pay per view. One of these teams will decide the fate of the WFWF, but will it be because they’re simply better than the other, or because they can’t work together?
NO HOLDS BARRED
Ace Bennett & Thunder vs. Dave Demento & Randel Benjamin
As it turns out it doesn’t matter whether you’re selected as part of Team Demon or Team Pierce, somehow you’re going to be drawn into their war anyway. Just ask these four men who nobody could have predicted would be facing off in tag team action just a few days ago. Dave Demento and Randel Benjamin are Team Demon, there’s no doubt about it, the dangerous and eccentric team having made their hatred of Xavier Pierce clear from the moment they returned and tore up his office. For weeks they rallied for a chance to get one over Xavier, and they got it when Trace Demon placed them in a handicap match against Xavier’s handpicked number one contender Shawn Malakai. It was a dangerous situation for Malakai and his entourage but in the end it was another surprising return to the WFWF who would prove the difference maker in the post-match antics. Yes, Ace Bennett is back and he’s most definitely on Shawn Malakai’s side. Inevitably though Trace Demon had a problem with that, leading to this match being made official as Ace Bennett and Thunder will team up, two men who have made equally shocking returns to the WFWF in recent months, taking on the experienced tag team of Demento and Benjamin in a no holds barred match. With Trace intending to take Malakai’s backup out of the picture ahead of the WFWF World Championship match this one promises to be dangerous. Will it be the experienced team or the returning stars who get the win?
BEST OF THREE SERIES
Reverend Shadow vs. Cam Nitta
Winning team gets the one man advantage in Battleground.
When Trace Demon promised he had an ace up his sleeve for his fourth men everybody was wondering who he was talking about, but nobody expected it to be the returning Reverend Shadow. A hall of famer and former WFWF World Champion in his own right Reverend Shadow is a man of mystery but the one thing everybody knows about him is that he is one of the best the WFWF has produced, meaning this is somewhat of a coup for team Demon. The big question of course is why Reverend Shadow is back and why he has decided to align himself with a man like Trace Demon (we think it’s because of their equally mysterious and tonally similar names, but what do we know?) Of course the answers to those questions will have to wait as Shadow returns to a WFWF ring for the first time in over a year. His opponent? None other than Cam Nitta, the impressive youngster who has found himself trying to juggle both the growing tension with his tag team partner and close friend Mak Cross and his inclusion in the war between Trace Demon and Xavier Pierce. While he’ll be considerably outmatched experience wise Cam has actually been wrestling consistently for some time, something Reverend Shadow can’t claim. Will it be experience or consistency that wins out, and who will put one on the board for their team in the battle for the all-important one man advantage inside Battleground? Whichever way the coin falls, it’s going to be one to remember.
BEST OF THREE SERIES
Mak Cross vs. Penny Shannon
Winning team gets the one man advantage in Battleground.
Well there’s no doubt in our minds who decided on this pairing. In all his time in the WFWF Mak Cross has had one consistent and golden rule – he will not lay his hands on a woman. Now if he wants to win this match and give his team any hope of gaining that all important one man advantage he won’t have a choice as he steps inside the ring with the craziest woman in professional wrestling Penny Shannon. Unlike Mak Penny doesn’t have a problem hitting or assaulting anybody that stands in her way, be it man, woman or puppy (we’d like to assure all animal rights activists that there is no proof any puppies have been harmed by a WFWF employee, so there’s no need for paint bombs or anything stupid like that). Penny has left a trail of bodies in her wake as she walks into Battleground and if she has her way she’ll make sure that Mak Cross doesn’t even make it into the cell. Now is Mak Cross going to just stand there and let that happen or will he break his golden rule and beat up a woman? For once we can say there’s a whole lot more to this match than violence, blood and gore. It’s about honour, pride, morals and ethics. But more importantly it’s about violence, blood and gore, so Mak, don’t let the WFWF audience down, they want to see you beat up a woman. God, how sick does that make you guys sound? You should all be ashamed.
BEST OF THREE SERIES; WFWF NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP MATCH
Devilkiller © vs. Joe Bishop
Winning team gets the one man advantage in Battleground.
Wow, there’s a hell of a lot riding on this match. The National Championship, a shot at having the one man advantage going into the hellacious Battleground match, not to mention pride, respect and the chance to beat up a guy you hate. That’s a lot to place on the shoulders of a man, so no pressure guys. Devilkiller has been highly impressive since taking the National Championship from Carter Contra several months ago, running through all challengers who have stepped up to the plate. One man who is not impressed is former National Champion Joe Bishop. Now Bishop might be gunning for the WFWF International Championship right now but no sane man is going to turn down the opportunity to hold gold, so when Bishop heard that Devilkiller was going to be his opponent in the best of three series he has three simple words to say – “bring it on”. Devilkiller, not one to be left out, also had some words to say but we’re not legally allowed to repeat them if we don’t want to get sued, and we don’t know about you but we’re not big fans of being sued. Two of the WFWF’s brightest stars clash with so much on the line that you’d swear this match was booked by Vince Russo (the only thing missing is a pole, but luckily we know a good strip club nearby). Who wins, who loses, who walks into the Battleground match as National Champion? We don’t know yet, that’s the whole reason for the match ya idjit.
SINGLES ACTION
Ace Andrews vs. Beast Kahn
Last week on Revolution Ace Andrews and Beast Kahn both participated in a triple threat match alongside Andrew Carter. The winner of that match turned out to be none other than the goliath Beast Kahn, but only after he threw Ace from the ring and then finished off the already pretty finished off Andrew Carter. As it turns out Ace wasn’t all that impressed, considering Kahn as stealing the victory off of him and as a rich man he doesn’t like to be stolen from, just go ask a republican. Luckily for Ace Andrews he has friends in high places, and by that we mean he’s friends with Trace Demon and that dude is happy to make matches if they sound like fun, and this one certainly sounds like fun. Ace Andrews, rich playboy, and Beast Kahn, giant maniac of doom, going one on one? Yes, that’s certainly fun for everybody but these two. It’s a real battle of money against giants (you know that old story) and only one will walk away holding all the cards. Good luck boys, you’re going to need it.
PROVING GROUND
Andrew Carter vs. Beau Bowens vs. Jayson Garrett
The concept is simple. Three men battle it out with the winner getting a guaranteed WFWF National Championship match on the next edition of Revolution. It’s certainly not rocket science to figure out that for these three competitors that kind of prize is going to be one they should really go all out for. First you have Andrew Carter, who despite looking impressive since coming to the WFWF has been on a considerable losing streak and will be looking for a big win here to break out of that funk. Then you’ve got Beau Bowens and Jayson Garrett who will both be making their in ring WFWF debuts on pay per view with a National Championship match on the line. That’s a big ask even for a guy like Jayson Garrett who seems to be pretty confident in his abilities. Beau Bowens… well we know pretty much nothing about him, but what better way to find out than throw him straight into the squared circle? Nope, we couldn’t think of one either.
