So I finally picked up a WCW Arena for a decent price and I figured at least a handful of you've been curious about how they hold up in the modern age. Take a look at these pics then check the album link at the bottom for more!
It's a little tedious to assemble, but that may just be mine having been in storage for 15 years. Some of the pieces did not want to fold / clip together. The connecting scaffold above the stage repeatedly slipped out so I used a twist tie that may be visible in some pics.
It's got a crane above the ring for ladder matches or to have your figures lowered to the ring or stage. The track is about as wide as a figure's foot so it also makes standing your figs on the scaffold relatively easy.
Since most of my figures are packed away my selection of display figures was pretty slim. I've included at least one of every brand / era I own in the album. I only have three Mattel figures (I received in a trade as I don't collect them) but they are in the album to show scale.
I took the opportunity to set up some of my favorite classic moments as well as a few other interesting set ups.
Sabu and Billy Gunn. Both made by Toybiz. The Sabu is a fix-up I did. I didn't like the yellow camel pants so I made my own cloth pants.
It's time once again for everybody to come aboard the HOOOOOOOO TRAINNNNNNNNNNN!!!
GORE! GORE! GORE!
Check out the other pics here!!
In this album I've got a few OSFTM figures, some BCA, more Toybiz, a couple of Mattel to give you an idea how these would work in your set up. I hope you like them!
All in all I'd say this would be a great buy for anyone that wants their own set up. You can definitely use the pieces to assemble or add to your own Mattel or Jakks arena setups. It comes with a decent amount of scaffold and a great sized ring.
A few things I don't like are the ring apron being hard plastic so there's not anywhere to hide weapons and that the ramp itself is small with stairs attached so there isn't much space between the ring and the stage. If you were able to get your hands on another piece of scaffolding you could make it longer with ease. The scaffolding snaps together pretty easily and sturdily.
My biggest complaint is the cloth soft center of the ring. It's that way for the arena sounds but it makes posing figures in the center of the ring near impossible. You could cover it with something though.
