It's a lack of security on the store's part. I used to have a job as a secret shopper and while wrestling figures were among some of the highest missing item percentages in the Toy Dept., other toys were stolen on a more regular basis, like Hot Wheels or Barbies (both Mattel oddly enough). And the fact figure swaps happen so frequently is negligence on the store clerk. (Again, people try to swap anything, from toys to tools to clothes to etc.) The fact of the matter is, these people will eventually get caught, and suffer the consequences.

I guarantee it's nowhere close. Unfortunately, it's mouth-breathers like them who give collectors a bad name.

Its not a Mattel problem, its a wrestling fan problem. This only ever seems to effect the wrestling toys. I went to ToysRus a few weeks back and it was so ghetto there they didnt even attempt to switch figs they just out right ripped it out of the package and left the box on the shelf. I saw like five different WWE figs just stolen and some of the boxes hidden in the back of the shelf. The biggest thing is it was only the wrestling figs, nothing else was stolen from any of the other toy lines. So we have to ask ourselves what kind of people does wrestling attract?? This is true. My local comic shop sold me a crap ton of Jakks wrestling figures for cheap. The owner cut me a great deal because he was tired of them sitting in the back and all the troubles he has had online with them. He has been doing Ebay for 15 years and had never had so many pending payments not go through, and people just flat out not paying at all. I'm glad I noticed these figures. Truth, I don't have any shame about admitting that I like wrestling, but I see the looks that gets, and I don't think they're wrong in their logic. Wrasslin' attracts the lowest common denominator sometimes.

The arms and chest aren't even the same color. And I'm not surprised if that is actually how that figure was released... "Jakks"...

The worst I've ever seen was when someone swapped out a Jakks figure for a non-human, knock-off dollar store Transformers figure. I tried explaining the problem to a befuddled Wal-mart employee, and after a trip around the store, it was right back on the pegs.
I've collected all types of figures for 20+ years, and it seemed to start with Jakks and switch to Mattel, but I've only seen it be a noticeable trend with wrestling figures.

I've stopped taking the switcheroos up to the counter and pointing them out, because after 3 times of doing that only to have the figure back out on the shelves I realized it was pointless. I have worked retail, and although I can't speak for Wal-Mart, I'm sure it's like any other job I've had where there is a bin for broken returns, theft, and damages so that the store can get credit or at least not have it count towards the measured shrink on inventory day.

That sucks! Last week after a finally breaking up from school I decided to treat myself. So I went to smyths (a UK toy store) and started searching, after searching I finally found a Honky Tonk Man! I was pretty happy because that was the only Honky there. I kept on looking at it and I realised there was no guitar!

My Walmart has at least 5 shelf Warmers due to figure swapping and accessory theft. It really sucks only seeing basics on the pegs as I don't collect them

The switcheroos I see eventually do disappear, so I have to assume some kid got duped because their parents didn't know better.
