The Philadelphia Eagles have fined Riley Cooper after a widely circulated video showed him making racially insensitive remarks towards a black security guard at a Kenny Chesney concert. “I will jump that fence and fight every n***** here, bro," Cooper says in the video. Cooper immediately took to Twitter to when the video was posted by Crossingbroad.com on Wednesday. He apologized again in a press conference with reporters and later to his teammates during an evening meeting.
"I am so ashamed and disgusted with myself," the 25-year-old wide receiver tweeted. I want to apologize. I have been offensive. I have apologized to my
coach, Jeffrey Lurie, and Howie Roseman and to my teammates. I owe an apology to the fans and to this community. I am so ashamed, but there are no excuses. What I did was wrong and I will accept the consequences.
Marcus Vick, whose brother Michael is Cooper's quarterback, wasn't placated by the apologies. He called for a "bounty" on Cooper in a tweet
that has since been deleted. Michael Vick, who has had to overcome a few demons of his own, was more forgiving. He publicly chastised his brother for the outspoken criticism of a teammate.
"People on the outside world who don't know how we're dealing with it, they're going to voice their own opinion. But my brother has to not show a certain level of ignorance himself," Michael said.I don't agree with what my brother is saying. Riley is still my teammate. And he just stood in front of us as a man and apologized for what he said. And somewhere deep down, you have to find some level of respect for that. Riley wished he never said it. "What if your son or daughter made a mistake of this factor? How would you want people to perceive it? I've been there before,'' he added.
We talked about it man to man, one on one. We just know that we have to some way move on. It's a very delicate situation. But we all understand.
Somehow we all have to find a way to get past it. That's maturity in itself.
Who does Marcus Vick think he is? Nothing! Where does he get off wanting to put a bounty on an NFL player for making a racial slur? Riley had no right to make a stupid comment like that in public. Marcus Vick is a failure riding on his brother's fame! Vick is no saint anyway, he was in jail five years ago for killing dogs. I wonder if Mike's idiot brother knows about the shady past Vick had. He is scum. Aaron Hernandez kills a guy and gets cut! It's his own d-mn fault. Marcus Vick needs to be banned for trying to get involved in NFL business by forcing other teams and their defensive players to intentionally cripple Riley Cooper! I agree with Michael, Riley Cooper needs to move on. Marcus Vick needs to be exiled.
