As unpopular a reply as this is- I just don't see any talent smashing through to the mainstream and turning the world on its ear again...not in the same way that Rock or Austin did, at least. Pretty much everyone alive knows who those two are, or the Undertaker, Hogan...noone in today's day and age can tout the same thing (Cena included) because despite the WWE's remaining relevant, they aren't near the peak of popularity they obtained in the late 90's Attitude Era. I honestly don't see pro wrestling getting back there for a VEEEERY long time, and it's because of that I don't feel there will be a 'cosmo star' on that level until they smash through that tier.
Yes, we've had enormously over people like Rey, Jeff Hardy, Cena, Punk, Bryan, etc...but you stop a random person on the street and ask them if they know who they are, odds are 9 out of 10 have no clue. If you bring up Rocky or Austin, automatic notoriety. I feel the WWE needs someone on this level to reach their height again, and sadly I don't think it's the problem of the current roster, but pop culture's hesitance to embrace and latch onto wrestling again that will prevent this from happening.

I don't think WWE will ever seep into mainstream culture the way it did back then, so I think the way it looks like they're starting to treat it as more of a counter-culture (not to the extent ECW did, but still) by pushing "non-WWE" looking guys, as well as outsider gimmicks like The Shield and Punk is the new direction for them. As far as the face of the company, right now they need Punk but I feel he's only going to wrestle for another year or two then move on, and then they'll probably hot shot someone in. I think Ziggler could be the big face for the company, at least in the short term, maybe him and Bryan

I think Roman Reigns is our next Dave Batista, I see Rollins as the next Punk. And Ambrose is our next Edge.

Should've been Ryback, but they just keep having him lose big matches and more recently, walk out on matches. I would hope Cesaro could break away from the "real Americans" in the same fashion Cody broke off of Rhodes Scholars and get that instant pop. The next big star will be the one that legitimately gets pissed at the real workings of the business, expresses it with a "did he just say that?" Moment and becomes adored by fans...

Big E and Roman Reigns. That's what we need unless someone in future would still want to watch gnomes/indy-looking wrestlers like a lot of people do now. As much as I love guys like Ambrose, Rollins, Ziggler, and I do think they will be key main eventers. I agree that the future does need some muscle, and Big E and Reigns sure do provide that. Wouldn't call Bryan the future, listen to the fans, he's the present.

If they keep out of trouble I think that in their own way each member of the Shield can become huge stars. I also would love Cody Rhodes to become the #1 man in the business, he oozes with talent! I also see Paige becoming a huge star as she is a decent wrestler, she is pretty popular already and she seems to have "it"
