I only collect elite figures, I like how theres more variation between body moulds than basics and the accessories are sometimes quite nice (although I dont like the hemming on the shirts... or more to the point lack of hemming)
however, I recently popped into Hamleys toy shop to pick up the E20 (?) CM Punk - the one with blue trunks- I remember them being £15.50 in there, anyways as I said I went in to pick it up my plan was to customise it and have a wolverine style Punk, I was shocked to see they'd gone up from £15.50 to £17
The reason I'd put off buying it was because it was quite expensive to begin with £15 for a single toy is a bit steep in my opinion, £17 is crazy,
I'm thinking about stopping collection not due to low funds or anything but just because they seem to be taking the piss when it comes to pricing their figures by the time I've got the bus into town I'm spending over £20..
I'm thinking about collecting just basics as they're cheaper, I dont really mind loosing out on the accessories too much as the shirts are kinda cheap looking and I dont display weapon accessories. I bought a shirt of Emming and found the quality to surpass mattel's by a long shot.
can anyone post pics of their basics collection to help me decide?

This isn't the Mattel board BTW.
But anyway I quite like the basics. A part from the accessories, a lot of them are better than the elites. The Elite Tensai looks crap without his Robe/Mask but the basic is awesome by itself. Plus the new D-Bry is one of the best Mattel scans ever.

I agree, the price rise in figure over the last few years has been ridiculous, I remember when single figures would very rarely be any more than £10.

I couldn't agree with you more. My birthday was last weekend, so I went and picked up some figures. I bought the Summer Slam ring (on clearance), Basic Lesnar and Punk, Elite Bryan and Sheamus and BP Vikie and Dolph. It cost me $100! I was in shock. I remember when I was a kid every figure was $5. I miss those days.

Yeah prices in the UK over Mattel figures are going up like crazy, last year Smyths Elites were £12, they then went up to £14 which I could live with and then out of nowhere they shoot up to £17?!
