I only collect elite figures, I like how theres more variation between body moulds than basics and the accessories are sometimes quite nice (although I dont like the hemming on the shirts... or more to the point lack of hemming)
however, I recently popped into Hamleys toy shop to pick up the E20 (?) CM Punk - the one with blue trunks- I remember them being £15.50 in there, anyways as I said I went in to pick it up my plan was to customise it and have a wolverine style Punk, I was shocked to see they'd gone up from £15.50 to £17
The reason I'd put off buying it was because it was quite expensive to begin with £15 for a single toy is a bit steep in my opinion, £17 is crazy,
I'm thinking about stopping collection not due to low funds or anything but just because they seem to be taking the piss when it comes to pricing their figures by the time I've got the bus into town I'm spending over £20..
I'm thinking about collecting just basics as they're cheaper, I dont really mind loosing out on the accessories too much as the shirts are kinda cheap looking and I dont display weapon accessories. I bought a shirt of Emming and found the quality to surpass mattel's by a long shot.
can anyone post pics of their basics collection to help me decide?

£17 is crazy? In Canada, Elites are $25 + tax, total around $27 per elite. In Australia, they cost way more. paying around £17 for a figure isn't that bad, let alone £15. In fact, I'd say your lucky to have it at that price. However I do see your point, as the price for these figures are a bit over the top. Collecting basics can be fun too, although you will miss out on some Flashbacks, you will get all of the newly released characters first, as they come out in basic form before they come in Elite form. Good luck collecting.
Edit: If you mean £17 WITHOUT tax, then I totally see your point! I figured you had factored in the tax already.

A couple weeks ago I had thought about giving up because I spent so much on my collection already. I've already put a little over a thousand into it and I've only been collecting since October of last year. Then I saw E22 and I fell in love again. What a great set

Dude if ur gonna collect, elites are the ones to get. Don't switch to basics, they suck. I agree prices are becoming a bit much but limit ur spending and get figures u really want.

If that's too much in your mind, that's all that matters. I was pretty upset my local TRU had regular Elites swell from $19 to $23 before tax. Ultimately, I've just gone to different stores.
WalMart here has Elites for $17 and Basics for $11 Target has Elites for $19 Even a TRU two hours away has Elites for $17
I've just been pre-ordering the figures I know I'll want, and if I come across the others in retail I'll get those too if they're at a decent price.

If it's a financial burden or the thrill has left the hunt, then by all means don't prolong the agony. I don't think it's too melodramatic to compare severing the ties of collecting these figures to that of a broken relationship. They have a lot of similarities. The point is that collecting can become a very large part of your lifestyle and if it no longer makes you happy it can be very easy, just like a relationship, to hold on for too long which only hurts worse.
If purging the collection will help, then that is your call, but I would say to certainly hold on to the figures, and if you are still keen on them later then maybe you can spot pick up figures later when your finances are stable. Sometimes getting caught up is the most fun part, certainly moreso than being caught up and waiting for new sets to drop which is kind of where I'm at.

I dont care if you're from sweeden or wherever I'm talking about prices where I live, and prices compared to what I've been paying for the last 15 years. If I lived in a country such as Sweeden or Australia, I wouldn't buy them full stop, paying over £20 a figure is mental unless its an exclusive. I wouldn't count myself "lucky" for living in a country that has cheaper figures, what I'm saying is I used to get a figure every other week or whatever back when Jakks had the contract, CS were 10/12 £ a pop and RA's 7-8 £ compared to what mattel are selling for, nearly double the price for Elites.
I'm not trying to get people to outbid the UK on the most expensive elites, I'm just saying £20 per figure is getting a little steep for someone like me, I have other hobbies outside of collecting if collecting is the only thing you're into then £20 odd quid a pop is probably no big deal. My main gripe is I do enjoy collecting but I also enjoy money. and being able to afford to go places and take my girlfriend out, I'm saving up for a car, driving lessons etc, I'd like to still collect but I want something a little more economically friendly, I'm not 100% sure on making the change I just think having (pretty much) a half price figure (which are also easier to pick up where I live) with no accessorie a little more appealing.
I just like the wider range of body moulds that elites have. I dont go crazy with elites I have 14 but there are a load I want that I just cant justify spending £17+ each on them. which is why basics are drawing me in. I mean I could get elites just for the heads, do a head swap put the old head on the new elite body and sell it on ebay, I'm sure i'd make close to the retail price. (obviously I'd state in the listing its had a head change)

Price increases of the elite line probably concern me more than who they make in the elite line, especially the Flashbacks, which are the ones that interest me the most and who I pay full retail for. I will continue to collect no matter what but I hope the prices stay reasonable on the elite figures.

Elites are 35£ in Sweden. Feel lucky. yeah, here in Germany too. Plus we have to buy almost everything online because 9 out of 10 stores don't carry WWE merchandise. Always find it funny when lucky guys like US or UK guys bitch about their high (low) prices

I very much prefer Basics over Elites. Not because of the price but because I can have a much quicker to update & much fuller roster that way. I do however buy some Elite accessories to add.... The only Elites I have on there are Vince, Teddy, & Ricardo. Technically AJ too, if you count her. Only current roster star I'm missing is Rosa.

You expect Mattel to make them cheap when it takes them alot more money to make then the junk piles of reused parts Jakks threw together. So you dont get a figure every week get over it and save up for the ones you want.

I say go through all your figures and if you aren't sold on one of them then sell it. Then from now on only collect the figures you really like. That's what I did and it has peaked my interest again. But if you feel the elites have gotten too expensive and don't mind the look of the basics then try buying some instead. If you don't like them well atleast you will know for sure. First pic I've seen of the BP23 Vince head on the Triple H body. Looks like it is sitting a little low.

As someone who quit collecting for a few years? Don't do it! If you're still watching wrestling, you'll eventually end up wanting to get back in to it and if you sold off a lot of your collection (like I did) you'll be kicking yourself for getting rid of it and for missing out on so many great series. Plus, I live in Australia so any complaining about figure prices seems silly to me

Still love collecting the figures even though I no longer watch wrestling. Love the legends/flashbacks.
