IMPACT WRESTLING on SPIKE TV! | August 22nd, 2013 | “One Man Down?”
- We are greeted to this week’s edition of Impact Wrestling by the duo of Mike Tenay and Jeremy Borash. Borash explains that Taz decided to stay backstage with his boys to help them prepare for their big tag team match later on in the night. Tenay and Borash hype the main event of the evening, before turning their attention to the Bound for Glory Series. They mention that we will see a four way Falls Count Anywhere match between Joseph Parks, Jay Bradley, Christopher Daniels and Hernandez where the winner will receive twenty points in the Bound for Glory series!
- Following his win last week, Bully Ray made his way down to the ring, sans the rest of Aces and Eights. Bully received tremendous boos from the live crowd here in Norfolk, Virginia. Bully got on the microphone and started bashing Chris Sabin, calling him a pansy for not being able to defend the World Heavyweight Championship. Bully went back to degrading the company before revealing that he has reconciled with “Brooke”. Bully says that he and “Brooke” will be watching tonight’s Main Event backstage, and should one of his men lose. He will beat down on them without remorse. Bully dropped the microphone, threw his championship over his shoulder and made his way to the back.
- Commercial Break
- We return to IMPACT WRESTLING as former X-Division champion, Kenny King stood in the ring, microphone in hand. King had some choice words for the current X-Division Champion, Manik, before laying out an open challenge to any X-Division star in the locker room. The announcers briefly cover the fact that Hulk Hogan has announced that the X-Division matchups can be contested under singles competition once again. Rockstar Spud made his way down to the ring to answer the X-Division Open Challenge.
- Kenny King defeated Rockstar Spud: Contraire to his IMPACT debut at Destination X, Rockstar Spud played the babyface in peril during this hard-fought contest. King and Spud’s bodies were flying all over showcasing the X-Division. King eventually finished Spud off with the Royal Flush for the victory.
- We cut backstage to see Christopher Daniels warming up backstage alongside Kazarian. The discussion between both men seems to be the Bound for Glory series. Kazarian reminded Daniels off his Ladder match victory last week as Bobby Roode entered the shot. Bobby seemed confident that the three members of his stable will be able to win their respective BFG series matches during the two Hardcore Justice weeks. Daniels competes in a four-man Falls Count Anywhere match next!
- Commercial Break
- Jay Bradley defeated Christopher Daniels, Hernandez and Joseph Parks in a four-way Falls Count Anywhere match in the BFG Series: Jay Bradley just might be the luckiest guy in the world right now. During the course of the match, Austin Aries made his way to the ring and delivered a Brainbuster to a fallen Christopher Daniels outside the ring. Hernandez and Parks took each other out as they both sent themselves through a table ringside. Bradley quickly covered the downed Daniels for the victory as Austin Aries looked on.
- Following his victory, Jay Bradley recovered quickly and celebrated his big win with the crowd. As he gained twenty points, he went around the ring and gave some high-fives to multiple IMPACT WRESTLING fans. That was until the duo of Bobby Roode and Kazarian made their way down to ringside. Before anything could transpire between Roode’s stable and the duo of Austin Aries and Jay Bradley, the IMPACT WRESTLING General Manager made his way onto the ramp to stop the commotion. Hogan said there was only one way to end this feud between the two teams: A six-man tag team match next week! The trio of Roode, Daniels and Kazarian versus Austin Aries, Jay Bradley and a partner of their choosing. All five men seemed pleased at the announcement.
- Commercial Break
- We return to IMPACT WRESTLING in the clubhouse of the Aces and Eights. Bully Ray not present, Mr. Anderson seemed to take the presence of the ringmaster tonight. Anderson gave his team a pep talk before the huge main event later on during the night. Anderson slapped every one of the Aces and Eights across the face before saying that if they lose, they are a disgrace to the club. All men pounded fists before going back to their normal routine.
- James Storm and Gunner defeated The BroMans in a non-title match: James Storm and Gunner had something to prove as the reigning Tag Team Champions of TNA. Although clearly giving up the size advantage, The BroMans fought valiantly before being taking down a tag team maneuver of a Superkick into a huge spear by Gunner, onto the body of Robbie E. Gunner pinned the “Bro” for the pinfall victory.
- We cut backstage to see former Knockouts Champion, Gail Kim standing backstage tweeting about tonight’s edition of IMPACT WRESTLING before being interrupted by ODB. Kim questions ODB’s presence but the “Country Beauty Queen” reassures that she wants to become the Number One Contender to Mickie James’ championship. Kim, seemingly offended, slaps the taste out of ODB’s mouth. Both women start to brawl around the backstage area as they fight one on one next!
- Commercial Break
- ODB defeated Gail Kim: Both women fought with disdain, as they tried to prove themselves worthy of being Mickie James’ number one contender. Kim controlled most of the match until ODB fought her way back, hitting the Dirty Dozen for the pinfall victory.
- We cut backstage to the locker room of the Main Event Mafia, sans Kurt Angle. Sting explained Angle’s absence this week and revealed that all of MEM wishes Angle the best of luck during his struggles. The roaming cameraman asked the question of who is the final member of the Mafia for tonight’s huge Main Event. Magnus replied that he’ll have to wait later on during the IMPACT WRESTLING broadcast for his answer.
- A video package aired hyping a Chris Sabin appearance next week on IMPACT WRESTLING. The headline was “What’s next for Chris Sabin?”
- Jeff Hardy was shown walking backstage. He is in action next!
- Commercial Break
- Jeff Hardy defeated Chavo Guerrero: A solid effort displayed by both men. Chavo Guerrero almost silenced the critiques with multiple nearfalls on the former TNA Heavyweight Champion. Hardy, getting ready for a BFG Series match against Hernandez next week, finished Chavo off with a Swanton Bomb for the pinfall victory.
- A video promotion the standings of the Bound for Glory aired. The leading four are as followed: Magnus, Bobby Roode, Austin Aries and Jay Bradley. AJ Styles will battle Magnus next week in a Bound for Glory Series Match.
- A highlight video concerning the Main Event between the Aces and Eights and the Main Event Mafia was show. Mike Tenay and Jeremy Borash hype tonight’s Main Event, which is following the last commercial break of the evening.
- Commercial Break
- Main Event Mafia defeated Aces and Eights in a Ten Man Team Match: This was a moment filled Main Event for tonight’s edition of IMPACT WRESTLING. The fifth man on Team Main Event Mafia proved to be none other than AJ Styles! Multiple high moves during the match, including Garrett Bischoff and Wes Briscoe crashing through the announce table courtesy of AJ Styles and Rampage Jackson. AJ Styles, continuing his Emotional state, pinned Garrett Bischoff after rolling him onto the body of Devon for the victory. All while eliminating both members of Aces and Eights!
- Following the realization of the victory pinfall on both Garrett Bischoff and Devon, AJ Styles hopped up onto his feet with a look of sorrow on his face. AJ mouths “Two Down” before pointing to the remaining members in both stables. Styles turn his attention to the reigning TNA World Heavyweight Champion in Bully Ray before sliding out of the ring and heading through the crowd. The Main Event Mafia flees the ring as Bully Ray enters with his chain around his fist. Ray looks down at his fallen brothers before berating them on losing. He pulls both Garrett and Devon up to their feet and throws them into different corners. Bully reaches Bischoff first and pummels him with the chain, leaving him in a heap on the ring mat. Ray then makes his way over to Devon, looks him straight in the eyes, and knocks him out with the chained fist. Bully raises his championship high in the air as IMPACT WRESTLING signs off the air.

Bully opening was the best move, but I'm surprised nobody interrupted him. I haven't watched TNA in a while as I have no clue who Rockstar Spud is. Anyway, glad King got the win. Was never a big fan of Jay Bradley, but he's with some big time talent here. His win made him look rather weak though and he seems out of place in this rivalry, not your fault though. Hoping we get a good choice for mystery partner. James Storm is lost in the shuffle in TNA, but good win for him and Gunner. ODB over Kim makes me sad. Good question, what is next for Sabin? Jeff Hardy winning was obvious. Looking forward to AJ/Magnus. Interesting for AJ to knock out both Garrett & Devon, can't wait to see more of this AJ. Glad you're sticking with that angle. Overall, a pretty good show.
