So in other words, your teacher told you that if you did not wish to be included in the joking around that you should alert him ahead of time, and instead of following his instructions you ignored his offer to be exempt and then sat there and got offended? Maybe you should acquire some listening comprehension. Seems like he said to tell him before class but class had started and he already started in on it not giving them a day to say something. Either way, it doesn't matter. No teacher should do it. You're f*cked when you get to college then kid. If I had a professor in college do that, I would have walked out and dropped the class. I'm there to learn and get my degree not mess around. The professor can joke around on their own time. I'm paying for that class, I don't want to waste my time joking around.

That is pretty messed up and if students wanted to they probably could get him in trouble.

I wouldn't be surprised if he were doing this to try & be the "cool teacher" but perhaps he just hit a nerve with you. Give him a week or two & see if it's more in a playful way or if he really is just a jerk.

I had a teacher once (Looked just like Arn Anderson, kinda scary) that slept during class and shoved students and snapped over nothing. I also had a teacher that did nothing but sleep or text on his phone. Those are bad teachers. A teacher that jokes around, as long as he does his job following, is hardly a bad teacher in comparison.

In this day and age a teacher (of all people) should know better than that.
But there's always going to be that one teacher that you don't like and always grinds your gears but you just got to suck it up.

The day and age where this kind of behaviour is ridiculed by someone that can't take a joke. This is the reason that teaching standards are dropping. They can't inject any personality into their work because someone will get offended. I'm not saying that ripping your students is the best way to go about things but some of our teachers done that exact thing and that was most often the fun classes that people enjoy and will end up working harder. The teacher will get to know his students and therefore get to know his boundaries. Once he does that then I really can't see the problem.

Good to see the youth of today is as soft as a fresh loaf of bread. In other words, grow a set. Are you serious? I'm sorry, but you're telling the kid to "grow a set", when the teacher is purposely being an bunghole to all the kids? I just cannot put into words how much of an bunghole you seem right now. Anyway, back on topic. Wow, and I thought that my teachers were bad when I was at school. But what you describe sounds like the teacher from hell, without physically abusing kids. Teachers are supposed to be there to teach kids, not ridicule them and drop their self-esteem, which will probably lead to them not learning anything due to how crappy they feel. Teachers like this should not have jobs.

Some of the reactions in this thread remind me just how happy I am not to know a majority of you people in person.

Aren't schools meant to be against bullying? Unusual how a teacher is bullying a student.

He's trying to be a funny guy, but the students dislike it and find it offensive. He and his friend were the only ones offended. And apparently he didn't even make a joke towards them. If that tells you anything.

Tell him his stand up material sucks worse than his mother with her false teeth out.
Then see what kind of reaction you get.

If hes throwing a bone at you, just pick it up and throw it back. Don't come on here and complain about it. Start talking crap to him Exactly, I've had plenty of teachers that used to bust my balls, in a lighthearted way, and we as a class, just sort of zinged back, in a lighthearted way. It's a joke, for Christ sakes. Class used to be so much better that way, it used to be a constant back and forth, BUT we got our work done, it was zing-zing-zing-zing the whole time. In fact, one of my high school teachers, my favorite teacher ever, would just shoot the crap with us all the time. Probably even worse than you. One instance was in class, and we were talking about phallic organs(don't know why), and we're all buddy buddy in the class, so the teacher goes "Speaking of sucking _____, Where's Josh?" Whole class lost it, and the kid took it in stride(trust me, I know the kid personally( He might have struck a nerve with you, and that's fine, not all humor is the same BUT he's even telling you "You have an out, if you don't want me to rib you, that's fine, tell me." But you didn't. So, you know, you either tell him the next time, or just not tell him, keep getting offended, and try to make him lose his job for showing some personality in class.
