TNA Negotiates With Brock Lesnar
Brock Lesnar and TNA executives are in negotiations right now to bring in the former WWE Heavyweight Champion
Kurt Angle
Kurt Angle and Brock Lesnar have a very good relationship, so he's the one brokering the deal with TNA.
The two recently worked together in Japan for wrestling legend Antonio Inoki's new wrestling promotion. It was there that Kurt Angle won the IWGP 3rd Generation title from Brock Lesnar.
It was also there where Kurt Angle once again tried to convince Brock Lesnar to join him in TNA.
Kurt Angle is fully aware that it is in his best interest to help TNA grow. Brock Lesnar still has enough name value to help make that happen.
Second Hour
TNA is expected to pick up the long awaited second hour of television this fall.
Adding big name wrestlers and former WWE wrestlers that fans will be familiar with is the plan. TNA knows that familiarity is what gets people interested in the product. The homegrown talent is what will keep them tuning in after the initial curiosity wears out.
Dixie Carter
Dixie Carter has already had one face to face meeting with Brock Lesnar in Nashville, Tennessee. The two discussed the possibility of the former four time All American wrestler joining TNA.
MMA
One of the topics discussed was Brock Lesnar's desire to continue his MMA career. Earlier this year, Brock Lesnar made his MMA debut. He successfully defeated Min Soo Kim by submission in under 2 minutes.
Dixie Carter is fully willing to cooperate with Brock Lesnar in his MMA career. Since he's such a big name, TNA is willing to work around his schedule.
TNA has become the place to be for wrestlers who have outside interests. Their schedule is a lot easier than the WWE schedule. It allows for plenty of time for the wrestlers to pursue other things.
Releasing Talent
With the signing of Adam "Pacman" Jones and the possibility of signing Brock Lesnar, TNA has already released a handful of wrestlers.
Doug Basham, Damaja (formerly known as Danny Basham in the WWE), Matt Bentley (Shawn Michaels' cousin), Jerry Lynn, and Brother Runt (formerly known as Spike Dudley in the WWE and ECW) have all been released.
The releases of Doug Basham, Damaja, and Brother Runt was expected. Doug Basham and Damaja were unable to connect with the TNA audience; Damaja actually left the company a few weeks ago. Brother Runt has only been used on house shows the last few weeks.
The releases of Jerry Lynn and Matt Bentley were a bit of a shock. Jerry Lynn was a well respected veteran backstage; the WWE would be wise to sign him as an agent or a trainer. Matt Bentley still has plenty of potential.
Closing Thoughts
This would be a tremendous move for TNA if they can sign Brock Lesnar. With TNA pushing to make a big impact when TNA Impact goes to 2 hours, the signing makes sense on almost every level.
