Hey all just would like to hear what you think will be the next big thing! We started with big rubber guys from LJN. Then Hasbro made plastic guys with an action move. Followed by Jakks bone crunching action, TTL, ruthless aggression, r3, deluxe agression, and most recently elite by mattel. Can WWE figures get better than the elite series? What are your thoughts

I think the next big change will be to 3.75" scale figures.

They can't get any better without getting overbearingly expensive.

I think the next big change will be to 3.75" scale figures. Then I will stop collecting. Elites are perfectly fine as they are. No need to change them or do anything different.

They can't get any better without getting overbearingly expensive. Bingo. And they're going to keep getting more and more overbearingly expensive anyway. The cost of materials, plus green initiatives, is going to lead to smaller toys. If not with Mattel, then with the next company.

I think the next big change will be to 3.75" scale figures. That would be terrible business choice. You cant put the needed detail in wrestling figures that's needed in a size that small.

How about guys with human like articulation that dosent show (ie the ab crunch on elites) and human like feel. Like their flesh is fleshy, clothes/gear is cloth, etc. As real as it gets

i wouldn't mind a smaller figure. 3.75 is too small though. 5" would be good. in terms of actual progress, i think the facial likenesses can always be improved. i think it'd be cool if you could custom order figures in various attires. for example, order billy gunn in pink trunks, green trunks, yellow trunks, etc. also, given the collector interest, mattel should really implement some sort of fan club that has exclusive offers to purchase various figures, newsletter, etc.

On the contrary, it would be a very smart business choice -- not necessarily for Mattel (unless they are forced to by the numbers), because their line is established, but if the WWE license ends up with a new company, I'd be very surprised to see it stay at the same approx scale we've had for the last fifteen years. Jakks had many successful years proving that very little detail is needed for a wrestling line to do good business. In five years, when basics are $16 and elites are $25+ (and international prices double that), many of us will have stopped buying. Sales will dwindle. Unless the economy takes a huge turn for the better and the cost of materials comes down, then highly-detailed 7" figures coming out every month at increasingly high prices are doomed.

Like their flesh is fleshy, clothes/gear is cloth, etc. As real as it gets Jakks tried stuff like that ten years ago or so, and it was too creepy to be successful. I think that's a much more futuristic style of figures when it's done right. The technology doesn't exist to produce decent-looking flesh-textured toys at a rate and price that a WWE line needs -- that could be a change a long way down the line, but that's a bigger difference than the leap from Jakks BCA to now. I think we'll see a good six or more evolutions between this point and accurate, articulated, flesh-style figures. And very few wrestlers' outfits are in cloth. Cloth trunks on a Randy Orton, for example, would look a lot worse than the way the figures look now.

Jakks Build n Brawl wave right back at you. They've tried the 3.75" line, they failed. We're getting real scan technology and highly detailed figures (CM Punks tattoos for example)...its nearly impossible to replicate that in 3.75" form. Its common sense.

WWE figs (or wrestling figures in general) have definitely gone a long way since the LJN days.

What Mattel is doing has worked, so I don't see major changes from them. However, I have noticed a trend in action figures that will likely influence what the next company to make WWE toys does.
Many newer lines (Marvel Titan Heroes comes to mind) have figures without limb articulation. This makes them much cheaper, but still very appealing to kids. At the same time, other series like Star Wars 6" black series is aimed at adult collectors, as is evidenced by the considerable price tag. I'm guessing Mattel's successor does two lines with a bigger dichotomy than basic/elite.

But that was not your argument...That they had failed once. Let's stick to what you said before. You said the needed detail was not to be found in a 4 inch figure. Gi Joe, Star Wars and the other lines I mentioned have LOTS of detail in them. So they CAN get detail in 4 inch figures.
