Just a few of my favorites. I was brought up on the Beatles, though- so perhaps I'm a bit impartial. If you want to be mindblown, and introduced to a number of the Beatles most notable songs, covered pretty well, with brilliant visuals- watch the movie 'Across the Universe'.

Yes they are completely and totally overrated. Had I been around in the 60s I'd say the same thing back then too. And you would have been torn to shreds by a throng of girls. The Beatles are the greatest band of all time and everything they did was genius. IMO...

If anything, even if you aren't a fan of the music, The Beatles taught a whole new generation to think outside the box and to try different sounds and ideas and thoughts.
It would be outrageous to claim that any of the current bands we all listen to and enjoy that have come along since the Beatles have done so BECAUSE of the Beatles.
But at the same time, I think you could make a sound argument. In fact, there are many within the Hard Rock/Heavy Metal that give credit to Helter Skelter specifically for almost "breeding" that music genre.

Yeah, even though they probably have only about 2 songs that I actually like, I still can't say they're overrated. Minus a couple of absolute truths, music and entertainment as a while are completely subjective. But the impacts of individual songs can't be ignored.
Look at the Rocky movies. There are people who don't like them but what the first 4 films did for the sports movie genre cannot go unnoticed. I don't think it's possible to overrate something that's transcended it's purpose of entertainment and had an impact on just about every way of life for many people.
So do I like them? Nope. Are they overrated? Nope.

I think age has a lot to do with appreciation of some classic music too. 20 years ago I didn't appreciate the Beatles, Stones, Elvis, Zeppelin, and many other artists nearly as much as I appreciate them today.

Musically, The Beatles were on a level that a layman can't understand. If you enjoy listening to music, but are not able to play, then you are less likely to understand what makes The Beatles so great. Their song structure is excellent. Their lyrics are excellent. Their influence is immeasurable. They are miles ahead of the majority of other rock'n'roll musicians/bands.
The answer is, "No," The Beatles are not overrated.

"I don't like something that everybody else likes so therefore it's overrated". Is that how it works? If so, then it's a really idiotic term for something that other people like but you don't. No one's forcing you to listen to their music, no one's forcing you to like them. Just accept the fact that something you don't like is still popular regardless. You don't have to like them but, for the love of god, at least respect what they've done for the music industry and how they revolutionized it to a whole other level.

Their not my cup of tea and never have been. My mum and Granny both never liked their music and funny enough always said they were overrated. But each to their own, "Stingersplash84" made a good point in the above post. For example im only in my 20s and i like Michael Bolton yet you can imagine the stick i get from my mates when i tell them that! Yet i cant understand because to me hes a great singer, great voice and makes great music. Bryan Adams is another one i like, to me these are all great singers and when i try to listen to the Beatles i just cant get into them because i dont like their style of music. If its not easy on the ear i dont care how good these bands are supposed to be you still wont be able to listen to their music and i really feel the Beatles arent easy on the ear ....speaking in regards to the typical layman like myself though.

I'm just being honest about how I feel. I agree with everything you said and I never said anything to the contrary. I never once said I "didn't like them" or that anyone was forcing me to listen to them. You are simply upset because I feel differently about The Beatles than you do. Essentially, you are doing to me what you asked me not to do to you in your post above. I respect them. Who doesn't? I just don't feel their music (even at that time) was quite as revolutionary or groundbreaking as some people like to believe. I apologize if my opinion differs from yours and that upsets you.

They're no different than the Backstreet Boys, N'sync, One Direction or any other boy band. Except that the ones I listed at least stuck with making simple pop music and didn't go through any weird phases of experimental garbage. While the Beatles early stuff is more along the lines of a boy band, they actually had a talent to write great lyrics and actually play instruments

No, I'm not upset at all because of what you think about them. Like, WTF? I was joking about the rebel thing, lighten up. Your just another nameless, faceless person on the internet, your opinions mean less than nothing to me. I was just stating that it's ridiculous to call something overrated just because you don't like it. I wasn't getting all worked up over your opinion. Don't flatter yourself, buddy.

I guess their music fit for the times, or maybe some could of been ahead of its time. Some of their tunes are not bad, in my opinion. But their music isn't totally that appealing to me anyway. N.W.A fo' life Muahahaha
