Red Sox signed Grady Sizemore today. Suck it Tanaka, the AL East is still ours. Apparently he was brought into compete with JBJ. No risk for Sox even though giving a major league contract to someone who hasn't played in two full seasons is a little odd.

The only thing I'll complain about tonight is that the Yankees RUINED Mariano Rivera and Andy Pettitte's last seasons by, as somebody on twitter wrote "fielding a team of mostly replacement players for a budgetary plan that eventually was NOT met". Looking back on 2013, the Yankees probably should have done a better job putting THAT team together if internally they knew that they were probably going over $189 anyway. Whatever...I just did like seeing Mo and Pettitte go out like that. Part of me wishes they'd both just go ' IT' and come back for 2014 because they deserve to be on a good team their last year. If you added Mo and/or Pettitte to the Yankees RIGHT NOW, it would make the team even better. Especially putting Mo back in the pen and adding another arm so Robertson isn't (as it stands right now) the only good reliever on the team and we don't even know if he can close. COME BACK, MO! COME BACK, ANDY!

The Yankees are going to sign Stephen Drew. Makes sense. Put him at 2nd base for this year and then next year when Jeter is retired, Drew is the shortstop for however long.

might as well go for broke and sign Fernando Rodney while we're at it

God please sign Stephen Drew, lets unleash the Xander!
Putting Drew at 3B would be the dumbest thing ever especially when Jeter was flopping all over the place at SS

no i meant Roberts at 3b....sorta kidding of course. Kelly Johnson & Nunez for the WIN!
Guess Roberts will be backup 2b. Just seems odd to pay him a couple million to do nothing

Heyman says they're considering signing Drew but no deal as of yet.
I would be down with Drew. Play him at 2B or 3B and let him play SS after Jeter retires.

So Burnett announces he is going to pitch but is more than open to leaving the Pirates.
I have no problem with players who leave. It is sports. You go with the money. I still love Mike Wallace. I still love Hossa. But when you say it is one team or you retire and then decide that you are going to go back on that...have fun getting booed if you have another crummy back half season like last year and breaking like you did with the Yankees. Pittsburgh fans were willing to let your debacle at the end of the season slide because of your Ks and the fact that your leadership aided in pushing us into the playoffs. The first time the Yankees beat your ass in Baltimore in like...April, everyone is gonna want your head.
And to think, this whole thing could have been avoided had he not said "Pittsburgh or nothing" and just said "not too sure yet." A**hole.

If he pitches, it will be with the Pirates and everyone knows it, but coming out and saying you'll only play for one team isn't exactly a great negotiation tactic. Even Mariano Rivera has joked that he would leave the Yankees. After 2007 when his contract was up he said "maybe I'll go to the Dodgers with Mr. T (Joe Torre). After he signed back with the Yankees he said it was BS, but sometimes you just need to make something up as leverage to squeeze a little extra cash out of somebody. Remember after 1999 when Bernie said he was probably going to jump to the Red Sox? It was a lie, but it sure made the Yanks sweeten their deal to Bernie. So maybe the Pirates are lowballing A.J. because they think they are his only option, trying to get him to pitch on a "discount" salary because the Pirates are a lower payroll team....he's just trying to get a little bit more out of them. Nothing new that hasn't been done a million times. David Ortiz threatens to leave the Red Sox 39 times a week.

I would have had no issue had he left, saying nothing. It is business. It was that he said he would not leave, and then months later is saying he is willing to leave that I am kind of pissy about. Do one or the other. Stay or go. Do not try cheap negotiating tactics and then back out when it does not work for you.

If the Yankees had no prior connection with Burnett, I would really want them to sign him on a 1 year deal but...yeah, there was a connection and it ended pretty bad.

We got an All-Star to pitch for us for two seasons, one of which was a playoff berth, and almost all of it was paid for on the Yankees dime. Not gonna lie, not complaining about that.

I don't hate AJ because he came through big in Game 2 of the 2009 World Series. Flags fly forever and Burnett contributed tremendously to have that flag raised.

God forbid for AJ Burnett to be undecided about pitching. Its not like opening day is tomorrow. He isnt doing anything wrong.

Freddie Freeman is locked up long term, and Heyward has a new 2 year contract avoiding arbitration. I'm pretty pleased about that.

Rumor I am hearing is, or someone started was the Braves are choosing Freeman as the face over Heyward and most likely wont give Heyward the long term deal. Next up is Simmons and Teheran You cool with Heyward potentially leaving>

Rumor I am hearing is, or someone started was the Braves are choosing Freeman as the face over Heyward and most likely wont give Heyward the long term deal. Next up is Simmons and Teheran You cool with Heyward potentially leaving> Well, Heyward has been disappointing. Between his struggles at the plate, and his injuries and whether or not they are related, it is hard to tell. But short of his defense in right field, I have definitely been disappointed in his performance thus far. Reminds me of Francoeur a bit. I think his 2 year deal is kind of on par with what he deserves right now. I think they would love for him to be the franchise player they thought he was, but he needs to prove it these next 2 years. Being saddled with Uggla's contract I am glad they are playing it smart. And honestly, Freeman has earned his deal more similarly to how McCann earned his big deal over Francoeur at the time. Unless he ups his performance, outfielders like Heyward are a dime a dozen.

Heyward was supposed to be Griffey, too bad he followed him with the injuries.
I know Freemans great but I dont think hes worth that deal, let me add, I dont watch him daily but when people were touting him as an MVP candidate I just kinda giggled
Sucks about Heyward, hometown kid genuinely seems like a great person too, be nice if he reached his potential

Fernando Rodney to the Mariners 2/$14
They really are going on a load up/spending spree. Makes me wonder if it's really going to work
