A continuation of the best opening match of Wrestlemania. Part 2 is the New Generation, all winners from these parts will meet in a final "best opening match" with the winner of each era. For these later Wrestlemania's I'll include the FFA's as the opening matches.
Wrestlemania IX: Shawn Michaels (w/ Luna Vachon) vs. Tatanka (w/ Sensational Sherri)
Wrestlemania X: Bret Hart vs. Owen Hart
Wrestlemania XI: The Allied Powers vs. The Blu Brothers (w/ Uncle Zeb)
Wrestlemania XII: The Boddy Donnas (w/ Sunny) vs. The Godwinns (w/ Hillbilly Jim)
Wrestlemania XIII: Billy Gunn vs. Flash Funk
I have a sneaky feeling that this is going to be a white wash.

Bret and Owen to win the whole thing. Basically this. I personally thought the feud between them was the best thing about 1994 in the WWF. |

This is easily Bret vs Owen. That is comfortably one of the greatest matches in Mania history and I really thought it let Owen shine. That feud should have parlayed Owen into a WWE Title run later in the year but it will always remain one of my favorite feuds. I know people love Bret because Bret became the man, but Owen was always more entertaining to me, both on the mic and in the ring because of his versatile moveset. Honestly, he was sort of the perfect mix between Shawn Michaels and Bret Hart, for those who weren't firmly attached to either guy. I know he was never elevated to that level, but I think he was that good. In regards to the chemistry in that Mania X match though, it was just a beautiful technical display with the emotion to go along with it. I don't know that two guys have ever bought into kayfabe so brilliantly than during that feud. Definitely a classic.

Does Billy Gunn vs. Flash Funk really count as the first match of the card?? If that was the case, then Wrestlemania 9 would have El Matador vs. Papa Shango for the first match to choose from. Tito vs Shango was a dark match so it wasn't televised, and I highly doubt anyone here would have even seen it. I've searched for it but never found it. Plus the FFAs were included on at least some of the VHS releases (the ones I had). |

Easily Bret/Owen. It should go on to win the entire thing.
Not that it really matters, but I have to agree with BD/Godwinns & Gunn/Funk not being the opening match. To me, the opening match is what opens the PPV Broadcast. Not a preliminary match. Either way, Bret/Owen is the clear cut winner.

I love HBK and Tatanka. I think it was a fantastic match and miles ahead of all the other matches on this list, except Bret and Owen. Bret and Owen maybe the greatest opening contest of any wrestling pay-per-view ever.

Went with Bret vs. Owen, but HBK vs. Tatanka is a VERY close 2nd.
