As we all know UPN complained to WWE about Muhammad Hassan due to his terrorist gimmick because he was on SmackDown that aired on UPN at the time. Could his release have been avoided if WWE moved him from SmackDown to RAW?

Possibly. More likely not as the character was obviously now doomed, so I guess WWE cut their losses to avoid bad PR.

WWE really missed the ball with Hassan. The guy got massive amounts of heat just when his music hit. Really annoyed that UPN basically killed Muhammad Hussan's career.

Terrorists attacked London the same day that his terrorist-like masked men attacked Taker. How could that be avoided? It's not like Del Rio. He can pretty much never turn face.

Just a horrible coincidence. I don't think moving him to Raw would have done any good. Shame too because like many stated, he was incredibly over as a heel. Wish they had kept him on Raw to begin with.

Moving him to Raw would have helped because Raw has historically had more leniency than SD but the damage to the character was so bad that even Mark Copani was turned off from wrestling. Its a shame too because he was a great talent.
The guy was a very good worker and could give great promos. When he debuted his character was a unique twist on the much used "foreign heel" gimmick. He was an Arab-American who had been discriminated against since 9/11. In a way even though he was suppose to be a heel he was really a face and we the fans and the rest of the roster were the heels. He was never meant to be a terrorist until the WWE wrote that stupid angle where he had Hassan's "followers" choke out Taker and carry Davari out as a sacrifice. The fact that the London Bombings happened on the same day made things worse. The joke about the whole thing is that the bombings happened in the morning and the WWE had all day to edit out that angle. Instead they left it in and looked like fools. Shame on the WWE for that.
When they turned his character into a supposed "terrorist" it was the end for Hassan. The WWE apparently wanted to move Copani back to OVW to repackage him but after a character like Hassan he would have never been able to rid himself of the gimmick. Moving him to Raw would have allowed the character to remain on TV but the character was all but dead once they ran that stupid angle. Copani's enjoyment for the wrestling business was apparently squashed after the backlash as well and he requested his release. Since then he has refused to do interviews about the character and to my knowledge has only made one appearance at an event as the character since he left in 2005.

As much as I loved him, I think he's gotten extremely overrated simply just because of how short his time was and how he was forced into obscurity.

Mark Copani is actually Italian-American not Arab

It's WWE's and their fault alone that Muhammad Hassan didn't make it.
The guy was doing great and taking his character further than anyone really expected it would.
Typical WWE had to take things one step to far and run a stupid pointless angle for cheap heat that wasn't necessary or needed. They did the same thing at Wrestlemania 7 and ended up not being able to sell out a 15,000 seat building because of it.

Can't believe they planned him to beat Batista for the world title at SummerSlam. Who know's how big he could have been.

Really loved this guy back in 05, he delivered promos really well, was disappointed when I learned that he was done with WWE. I always wished he just moved back to Raw like Daivari did.

Thought he was severely overrated and still do. Although I did like that angle with Taker where the masked men attacked him and choked him out with piano wire. It was nuts
