Given the lead time for the figures, we know they're usually at least a little outdated by the time they're released. Can anyone think of figures that were still up to date (guy still in WWE, still wearing that outfit, same hair etc) when they came out? I know there are quite a lot.
The first one that comes to mind for me is Survivor Series 2009 John Cena. He was still rocking the orange for months after that figure was released.
Randy Orton never really changes his outfits so I guess most of his figures are pretty current, although the beard on his headsculpt for the last two years isn't exactly the beard he has. Big Show goes years without changing his outfit too so a lot of his figures have been up to date.
Miz still wears the grey costume that the Elite 24 figure has, right?

Pretty sure ADR wore something very similar to his E21 gear at a recent PPV.

I don't think any Kanes have been current since he put the mask back on. By the time his Elite 19 and Basic 23 figures came out, he was already wearing the printed-not-stitched outfit that's in Elite 19... And by the time that figure came out, he'd changed to the smaller singlet thing.

I think Dolph wore his E19 trunks on a random Smackdown months after the figure came out.
Some of the earlier Kanes [based on 2010 WHC run] might have been up-to-date when they hit around Summer 2011(Target belt pack I think was out in July before he got killed off by Henry, not sure on Elite 10 release date, though).

There were a bunch of pre-mask Kanes that were current, yeah. Basic 2 came out before he changed up his tights at WrestleMania 26, I think... Or maybe just after. Basic 8 and the WrestleMania 26 figure came out long before Henry took him out. Elite 10 came out right around the time Henry took him out, actually. I got Elite 10 the day after that Smackdown, so I guess it had been out for a few days before that (and on RSC for probably a month or more).

Battle Pack 24 Seth Rollins. I think when Basic 33 Dean Ambrose dropped, he had stopped wearing the vest and switched over the white tape. He's back to wearing black for the most part now and you can just remove the vest so I'm not sure if he counts as current or not. Reigns. Cena is updated quite frequently for his releases.

The biggest, and frankly most surprising, would be SVS (PPV 2) John Cena since it was released in the early months of 2010 and he wore that attire until late August 2010. With Cena when I collected I always was more worried about the scan, part choices, and jean short colors...but that's before he was wearing denim for like 5 years straight and then khaki. Cena figures are usually 1-2 colors behind.
Other less obvious answers are: PPV 2 The Miz PPV 2 John Morrison PPV 2 Undertaker (he was still using that tight design up until Wm 26) Elite 2 Batista - the tattoos were out of date but the trunks were current
All Randy Ortons (except any throwback style) until he grew the beard, the blue elite 2 may not have been a weekly color scheme like the Orange from Basic 3 was at the time.
Battle Packs 1 Ted Dibiase - he wore the black trunks for a while. He started wearing red every now and then when it was released, but black was the primary Basic 7 Sheamus- just a few weeks before he switched to his King Sheamus attire PPV 3 Royal Rumble Edge-the tights were correct...but the boots were wrong. I remember making decals for them.
All of the newer CM Punk's are current, But he was the biggest offender until recently. Mattel releases elite 1 and basic 2....he has chest hair, longer hair, and a massive beard. They make the "jesus and chest hair look", he gets his head shaved and the chest tattoo. They make E11...he begins to slick back his hair and has a more in depth chest tattoo. Slicked back hair with the full beard figure comes out, then he haves his head. BAF WM 29...he has hair again and mutton chops.
This is a really interesting thread. Edge was always the biggest offender/toughest guy to collect during the Jakks days...for every great thing a figure had...they sacrificed something else. Or as soon as they'd finally release an up to date edge...he would change his attire, get a new tattoo, etc.
I'll never forget how jakks went through the stages of releasing Edge with too small of kickers, then without the kickers, with no boot detail, camo styled trunks w/o the camo, then with the camo, then with too big of a torso, then with the lower legs missing camo. And since i never wanted to own more than 1 of each guy, and wanted to the best version...I was constantly trading and selling and buying a new edge all the time.
Mysterio is another guy who changes his look and adds massive tattoos so often that his figures are always outdated.

Yeah, I think his next figure after Survivor Series 2009 that was still current was the purple signature series one that came out around Christmas 2010, then the next one was Basic 29 this year. All of the others have been outdated by the time they came out, I think... Although actually, Best of 2011 and Extreme Rules might have come out just before he switched from red to Rise Above Hate.

Great topic.
You have to wonder how many of the wrestlers make a change just to get a new figure and get new royalties off the sales. I am convinced CM Punk is doing it. I really miss that about old WWE is guys had a look they mostly stuck with and thats who they were. Now, guys change their attire weekly. Not sure I'll ever get a current Daniel Bryan which is all I really want - he seems set on the idea of changing attire every month or so to keep those merchandise sales going.
