How come 90% of the WWE Mattel figures released have 1 closed fisted hand and 1 open hand? and out of those 90%....90% is the right hand that's a fist.
food for thought... Some random things I noticed about the figure hands:
Miz is a southpaw (punches with his left hand), but on his figures, the right hand is a fist Sheamus who punches with his right, has his left hand closed fist All of CM Punk's Elites have open right hand closed left, all of Punk's Basics are open left hand, closed right Elite 15 Rey Mysterio is the only figure released with 2 closed fists all of the tall sized wrestlers (Big Show, Undertaker, Khali, Kane, Andre) have 2 open hands Basic 30 Santino Marella is the only Basic figure to have a "character specific" hand mold, while the Live Event Kmart John Cena is the only Elite figure to have a "character specific" hand mold

It seems more like a little list of facts to me.

I think the hands are somewhat assigned randomly, with the idea being one hand to punch and one hand to hold a weapon... With the bigger guys, it seems like the hand is for chokeslams. And when they settle on a body for a character, they probably don't change it unless there's a specific purpose, so we keep getting Sheamus with the closed left etc.
Ultimately, there is no right answer. If Sheamus has a closed right hand, then he has to hit people with a lead pipe with his left, where in reality he'd use his right for that too.
Unless they utilised R3-style articulated fingers, but those weren't great for holding weapons anyway.

How about the big one.
Why hasn't Big Show had a closed right fist yet?!?!? Is it not completely ridiculous that he hasn't? Is it just me here?

I mean does he even chokeslam people anymore? He seems to predominately use the KO these days. We NEED some KO punching action and if anything just use his left hand for choke slams.

I have him use the KO as well but I just bend the hand in and use the back of it for it.

Imagine how crisp and smooth that KO punch would feel with the closed fist. We need a big old clenched paw! Plus It'd give a lot of people one hell of a reason to buy the basic big shows that keep getting pumped out.

the one that gets me is that elite rock has a closed left fist, yet it would make more sense for his right fist to be closed since his signiture movement is him raising his right fist in the air while on the top rope lol
its a conspiracy! they give the basic figure the opposite open hand to the elite, therefore forcing you to buy both the elite and basic versions of the same wrestler just to have two open hands! im calling it! conspiracy! but really though thats what i thought...

Punk is the worst for this, can't even change the basic hands onto the elite because he loses free from his hand.

It's weird for some people to have closed fists, some not. Big Show should have one open and one closed.
