Christian Bale has discussed his famously gravelly Batman voice.
The actor said that he had to "become a beast" in his approach to the audition for Christopher Nolan's Dark Knight Trilogy.
"I got there," he told MTV. "They put me in Val Kilmer's suit. It didn't even fit properly, and I stood in it and I went, 'I feel like an idiot'.
"What kind of guy walks around, dressed like a bat? And is then going to go, 'Hello, how are you? Just ignore that I'm dressed as a bat'.
"Of course, he's meant to be doing this. If you look at the history of the guy and the pain that he went through. I went, 'I can't do this in a normal voice. I have to become a beast in order to sell this to myself'."
He admitted that he and his wife had assumed that the audition was a failure.
Bale recently warned Ben Affleck to make sure that his batsuit allows the Man of Steel sequel actor to go to the toilet unaided.
Makes sense...up until the point where people knew he was Bruce Wayne yet was still doing the voice lol

I don't hate the voice nearly as much as some people. It makes sense he would talk different as Batman and adds to the fear gimmick.
I feel bad for his throat after doing that crap for 3 movies though.

To be honest, the only time the voice was ever annoying to me is the end of the Dark Knight, and even then it was only the Theatrical version. The Blu Ray is very easy to understand and has no issues, and I feel that way for all 3 movies.
I'm surprised people who are that ticky tacky about a movie also didn't flip a lid to Joker's voice break in the Party Scene or Bane's voice break during the beginning of the last movie.

The voice never bothered me. Me either really. I always thought it was kinda cool until everybody started pissing and moaning about it. Much better than Val Kilmer and George Clooney using the same voice for Batman and Bruce Wayne. They didn't even try.

Lets talk about that. You can't just say that Ali beat Superman. There's a lot of things that go with that story, just throwing it out there that "oh Ali won," isn't right. It's like saying HBK submitted Bret Hart at Survivor Series 1997 and leaving the story at that.

I remember it had to do with the sun.. And then they teamed up. And Batman was in attendance.

I never saw a problem with it. It got irritating when everyone knew his identity, though. I used to think he was told to do the voice...

The moments I'm referring to, their voice breaks and they sound more like they naturally speak.

I can honestly say that Joker/Bane went unnoticed when it came to voice breaks, but one that stands out every single time is Gordon during the "He knew we were coming" yelling fit to Dent. He suddenly develops a heavy accent and it just makes me giggle.

He's a great actor but he was all over the place from movie to movie.
