Think Mattel will hold their value?

The figures will only get more expensive on the secondary market... But, with all wrestling toys, once a new company gets the license ( not saying that will be anytime soon), the Mattel figures will plumet in price on ebay and so forth. Obviously not all the figures. I can tell you te ESR will never drop in price. Even some basic/elites will continue to earn a high value. But, 90% of Mattels figures will go from $40-$100 each to $5-$30 each when they lose their license.

They all look great. As said above if you are in the UK they might keep their value.

Why are people obsessed with making money out of selling figures ??

Nope, they will drop... It's a numbers game, supply and demand. They make to many now for them to be worth anything in years to come, and there are too many collectors who will already have them. Just wont be the demand for them in the years to come, something is worth what someone else is willing to pay for it. If your investing to make money, I would get out now.

1) Nice collection (despite them being trapped in those prisons).

2) I think they will generally hold their value. Largely due to the fact that Mattel elites are such high quality and realistic and people will always care about that. Jakks (in general) are crappy compared to Mattel, and I don't see any other company being able to come along and do a better job. I think for that price point, for what you get, this is the best we can get.

3) I must say I too am a bit confused about your intentions with your collection... If you are just looking to make money, then sell your collection now (cause I don't think most of those will gain more value), rather than worrying about whether or not you should pull the trigger on getting the Kane. If you were just wanting to be aware of value and whether or not you should wait for the prices to drop so you could wait to get Kane for a more "reasonable" price, I'd get that.

4) I work at a comic shop and I always tell people to buy what they actually enjoy; The value should be secondary.

The question really isn't "should you sell?", but "why am I collecting?" If collecting figures has lost its luster for you, sell them while Mattel is on the mountain top. I'd recommend now due to the holiday season, or around WrestleMania time, when the public interest in wrestling is at its peak.

Very few modern collectibles increase in value. The internet is lousy with tales of people who have dumped money into figures, cards, comics, beanie babies, etc, only to be shocked when they sell for a fraction of the original price of the collection. You simply can't count on continued or increased interest in a product. However, those figures can give you a lifetime of viewing enjoyment and nice memories. Plus they will at least be worth something, especially a large collection, if you want to sell them for charity or as a gift to a family member years into the future.

WVGuitar<< exactly, just like the way nobody thought to put comics from the Forties in plastic bags and boards. The question is If they will even hold their retail value...so you can at least get your money back and pass them on to some one who will really appreciate them. I guess that's what most can hope for. I loose interest in stuff or lines die prematurely and I find my self selling that stuff to pay for my current interests....trust me you wont get rich overnight with modern toys. To each his own but most are just Pipe Dreams...

I think some people mistook my intentions.

I look to collect to completion. My Jakks Series 1 and 2 sets MOC are nearly complete. My old Hasbros also are complete. I have started a MOC Elite Flashbacks collection and am missing only one from the sets so far, that being Kane which goes for a good amount of money. My question with that was do you think that Kane will ever come down.

The other one was a bit more vague but boils down to this: I don't like the fact that RSC gets these exclusive figures and proceeds to be the scalpers that some people in here obviously have a hatred for. I admit I missed the boat on E12 Kane and will probably end up paying the money to get his figure but when RSC sees that they are getting a low stock of Bret Hart or Randy Savage, they jack the prices way up when they know they are the only game in town to get the figures. You would never see Walmart or another big box store do something like that on an exclusive so what reserves them the right to do it on their figures?
