Seems silly to pay that much just for a box. He's not just paying that much just for a box, come on, be serious. He's paying that much for a VERY limited and rare statue, which he could quite possibly turn around and sell and make 3 or 4 times what he paid for it. I was going on the assumption that he's a genuine collector rather than just flipping the things for profit.

Seems silly to pay that much just for a box. Open it up, man! Hard to enjoy it when you can't even see it through the box. I just got mine in the mail and opened it up, and this thing is HUGE!! I'll try to post a picture when I get a chance ... Mark Would love to see some pics!!

Great points being made here guys and I understand both arguments. I am a life long collector of figures. I've always collected figures moc and loose. I even but 2 of one figure if it's something I really like. To me keeping it moc is an investment but also an awesome item for my collection. It display nicely in the box and I really feel that if I open it I may regret it down the line. Keep the feedback coming guys. Would love to hear everyone's constructive feedback.

I don't think I can stress just how big and awesome this thing is. Here's two comparisons (I don't have the elite 1 Mattel on hand at the moment for a direct comparison, is in storage):

its a definitely a great figure... but from a collector's point of view, id definitely open it, as u cant see the statue/figure at all...in the end, im sure open will still be decently valuable...
also, considering it has been out for 11 days now and it is still available for sale, means there arent too many people looking to get it at the $300 price point...
more rare items these days, that will appreciate in value, end up selling out extremely fast...figures, collector edition video games, etc...
this being still for sale really makes me wonder..

Here you go ... It looks awesome. What number did u get? Thanks man. #485 ... I ordered later on that first day cause I forgot it was on sale so think that's why I didn't get an early number. The ring skirt is multi-colored, though, so that's pretty cool IMO. Mark

i dont think the numbers really matter that much.. they dont give them out in order... one time i bought nba2k10 collectors edition, 2 copies from same store at the same time.. one of them was numbered like 2500 numbers apart lol...
also, recently i got a namco tekken fight stick that has been out for a few years, a clearance black friday deal and i got number #11 out of 5,000 lol.. definitely know they sold more than 10 before i got mine.. it was 2 years old lol

Man this thing is awesome! May I ask, what is it made of? and is it heavy? I don't own any McFarlane pieces as they're hard to come by in the UK

It says it's made out of resin, I really don't know anything more than that. It's definitely heavy though -- it's indeed more of a "statue" than a "figure." It's freaking awesome. Mark

With the argument about keeping it mint in the box or not:
As a collector of statues in the past, I can tell you that as long as the statue remain in near mint (nothing is mint once it's opened by collector standards, so that means no scratches or dings), it will not lose its value. In fact, unless you're buying it straight from the retailer, chances are, it's already been on display behind a glass shelf. Just be careful with the packaging so if you decide you want to sell it, you can just put it back in how it came out.
We aren't talking about action figures on cards here, statues are boxed in a way that can be easily put back together exactly how the factory shipped it.
Any of my fellow comic nerds can back me up on this. Statues get displayed and sell for the same as ones that never was displayed.

Are these things only available online since they're so limited? How can you get the signed version or the artist proof that are limited to 50? And what exactly is the artist proof?

The macfarlane website shop sold out of the signed version but still had the artist proof last time i checked, its basically an unpainted version of the statue.

My wife got me one for Christmas ....the non autod one. I am a MOC collector BUT I opened this bad boy up and all I have to say is Mcfarlane hit a HR with this one. The detail is fantastic and it looks awesome displayed. I'm so glad I opened it.

Any of my fellow comic nerds can back me up on this. Statues get displayed and sell for the same as ones that never was displayed. Exactly. I can back this up 100%, as I collect Sideshow and F4F statues, and the prices for boxed and unboxed (with box) seem to be, almost without fail, exactly the same. Nobody really collects boxed statues, and most of the time, they're such limited runs that opened ones and boxed ones will increase in value at an equal rate. The thing about collectible statues is that there really isn't the same kind of difference in price if they're opened that there is with action figures because they are designed to be opened and put back in the box if needed. Most figures are carded, meaning you have to destroy the package to open them. Not to mention the fact that loose toys are often played with, while loose statues see about as much action as boxed ones do. You'd really have to be rolling in the dough to buy a $350 statue and leave it in a box where you can't see it - unless you're ONLY buying it to resell it. If you're buying it to collect it and leaving it in a windowless box, you'd might as well just buy the empty box. ... Also, FWIW, I can see these things dropping in price drastically for a while before they eventually catch back up to what they're selling for now. $350 for a fairly large run (for this kind of thing) of 750 statues with a really, really limited market is a little too, um... optimistic, IMO.

I'd love a Bray Wyatt statue. Sitting on his rocking chair with the lantern that lights up. Maybe Erick Rowan's sheep mask hanging off the side of the chair.
