That was a cool thing for the football players to do. It's nice to see things like this during the holiday's. The players took time out to make Christmas even more special for the kids. It's doesn't matter what the kids got, as long as they are happy.
At its core, Mattel is a toy company. Parents buy toys for kids. Many of the kids like Cena, so they make a lot of Cena figures. They are aware of us collectors with many of the flashback choices, but we alone are not a big enough group to keep Mattel in business. I guess it really depends on the area, but I see very few Cena figures on the shelf, while I see Bryan, Punk, Ziggler, Cesaro, Sandow and most of the flashbacks on a regular basis. Like it or not, as long as Cena is on tv, and kids like Cena, Mattel is going to be releasing lots of him.

Hehehe, this is a nice idea, but this is a fan forum on the internet.... that's just not going to happen I do agree that on the "people need to get over the Cena-hate" thing. Mostly, I think it's pretty misguided. I'm far from a Cena fan, but the dude generally does his job well. Also, I'd agree that it's more of a writing/booking problem.. although comparing the WWE and Pixar is a silly endeavor and inherently flawed. They're two companies that do totally different things and shouldn't be compared/graded on the same scale. Pixar is a film studio that does what they do because they have an infinite (basically) amount of resources and have years to perfect what they are working on (one two hour film a year). The WWE writes and produces 3 live television broadcasts a week, doing so mostly without properly trained actors (who also must double as tremendous athletes) on generally a single stage, while providing fresh material (totaling in over 300 hours of material not counting PPV, Superstars and other house-shows each year). Furthermore Pixar hasn't produced a truly great film since Toy Story 3 in 2010 and their last good film that wasn't a squeal was UP in 2009. I know it's semantics, but they broadcast one live television show a week. Not only that, it's a HUGE stretch to say they come up with 300+ hours of "fresh" material a week. Like one-third of Raw, and about half of Smackdown/Superstars/Main Event is recap of things that already happened. So, they produce about 2 hours of "live" TV a week, another two hours of taped TV, and fill in the rest with rehashed stuff. I'm not saying that what they do isn't difficult, but they clearly aren't setting themselves up for success from a writing standpoint. That's mostly fair I guess, but really that wasn't what I was getting at... it was more to say that holding the WWE to a Pixar-esq standard is silly because their totally different things (Ben already said it was an unfair comparison). Also, the WWE can defiantly improve the writing... I wasn't trying to imply they couldn't or shouldn't.

Here's the flaw in your logic. I dont disagree with a little kid wanting Cena/Rey/Punk, etc. BUT....if those figures are so popular amongst the youngsters, why are those figures constantly clogging the shelves up? By no means am I advocating that the divas or Ricardo or Zeb or other names like that should be more mass produced. BUT...that has to be some sort of happy medium. Look at RSC....Zeb is the most expensive in that set b/c they know how more in demand he will be over the common names we see set in and set out. Can't compare the two. RSC is a site that collectors will cherry pick. And for the most part guys like Orton, Rey, Cena, Del Rio are all figures that'll end up being sold for under $5 during their sales. But divas, Ricardo and Zeb will not sell that well at retail. The last 3 divas released I still see at Target, TRU and WalMart while Cena and Rey (the two everyone here complains about) are both moving from the pegs now. Retailers would rather have 5 pegs filled with Cena or Rey over 5 pegs of a diva or someone like Ricardo or Zeb, because in the long run it'll be the Cena/Rey who sell out especially this time of year hits. I've never heard parents saying each other "He wants a Katlynn do you see her?" But every time I was at a store this holiday season with other parents in the aisle I always heard "Do you see John Cena?" and many times there wasn't more than one if any. I almost NEVER see divas and most DEFINITELY do not have any ever shelf warming. The only figures that shelf warm are Orton, Rey, Cena, Del Rio, Taker, HHH and occassioally a Miz figure. I dont know any retailer that would rather have a certain figure warming vs another. Peg warmers are peg warmers.

As of this weekend I could have picked up Katlynn at TRU, and KMart, Rosa at WalMart and AJ at another KMart. They were mixed in with a ton of Del Rio's, Bo2013, Barrett, Slater, Miz and at TRU the Booker T and Teddy Long sets as well as a basic set with Kofi and Dle Rio they also had 5 Ambrose on the pegs and one of the Snuka.
And stores do want pegwarmers so they have product on the shelves between waves. And they would rather they are of the kid friendly wrestlers.

The kid chose Cena? Good. Now we know where they can unload the rest of the never ending supply. Kids are happy, collectors are happy. Its a win-win.
