Grow up. You're wanting to make everything into this big deal and start s*** for the sake of starting s***. You are being so petty that it's not even funny. Well you are the one who replied to me in the first place soooo..... Someone replying to you doesn't equal "HEY, LET'S GET INTO A BIG PISSING CONTEST BECAUSE I'M RIGHT!" Just drop it. This is beyond stupid.

Anyone have favorites for Phoenix? I think the Hendrick cars are going to dominate the race.

Hamlin.
EDIT: or Kyle. He's been pretty stout there the past few seasons.

Jr. is riding a wave of momentum, it'll be hard to go against him.

Harvick makes his JRM debut at Phoenix. He'll be behind the wheel of the #88 Great Clips Camaro.

Can someone explain to me the appeal of Nascar? This is going too sound extremely ignorant...
It seems like a waste of time watching cars go in circles, with a crash every now & then. IMPO I would rather watch paint dry than Nascar.
Not trying to offend anyone, just would like a honest response why you watch Nascar/racing in general.

IMPO I would rather watch paint dry than Nascar. Not trying to offend anyone, just would like a honest response why you watch Nascar/racing in general. But to be honest... I bet you never actually watched a race in full before. You just make an assumption, "its boring." Every basketball game, football game, baseball game is not exciting, in fact those could be more boring than NASCAR, and sometimes are. I love NASCAR because ANYTHING can and has happened. It is the most unpredictable sport. Dale Sr hit a pigeon at Daytona, loss the race. Camera cables fell on the track, a car slammed into a jet dryer a few years ago. It is unpredictable. Not only that, but driving those cars is a feat in its self. There are lots of people, millions who can play baseball, football, soccer, basketball and be good at it. I can. People think they can drive a car at 200 mph when handling is bad, cars are within tenths of a seconds from hitting you, and knowing that one mistake could mean serious injury or death, can you do that? Can you handle the pressure of driving 200 laps at over 150mph average, for four hours straight, inside a well over 100 degree car, knowing that this lap may be your last? NOPE. You, I, fellow members can not do that. It is a mix of man and machine, testing there stamina to beat the other 42 drivers to the finish line. They are not driving in circles, they are RACING. I love cheering for one driver (Jeff Gordon). It is 1 vs 42, not 1 vs 1. I love seeing the exciting finishes, I love seeing the great driving. NASCAR is a chess match, a strategic race, anybody can win. I watch NASCAR because I love it.

I've never met a die hard NASCAR fan or watched a race (I pointed out in the beginning of my post I would sound ignorant) interesting points you made. Anyone else care to comment?

My uncle was making fun of me for liking NASCAR so I made fun of him for liking golf. At least with NASCAR you get pit stops, wrecks, drunk people fighting in the infield, angry drivers fighting each other...
When was the last time you saw golfers throwing punches? Yeah they throw their clubs but that's rare.
As for the question of why I watch NASCAR, I give somebody the same response I give about professional wrestling, because it entertains me. I would stop watching if I wasn't being kept entertained. It's fun watching people flip out about stupid things about it, like when you go into the WWE Talk section of this site and read the IWC complain.

If you generalize it into being "cars going in circles" then that's all you'll see. You can do that to any sport. Basketball is "just people throwing a ball", soccer is just "people kicking a ball", wrestling is just "people fake punching each other", MMA is just "people laying and praying." All those sports sound pretty damned boring when you generalize them eh?

I love it for the passion. The excitement each Sunday afternoon gives me leading up to a race. There's more action in a race than a football or baseball game, imo.
Plus this sport has been the favored sport in my family since well before I was born. It's something I will always be into, no matter what.

IMPO I would rather watch paint dry than Nascar. Not trying to offend anyone, just would like a honest response why you watch Nascar/racing in general. Its not offensive, its a very common asked question actuall. I think the first step is you have to enjoy cars. The second step is understanding that while it sounds like a bunch of rednecks making left turns, they're some of the most physically in shape/gifted athletes in sports. Most people cant drive an hour or two in a comfortable car with A/C & radio without stopping and getting out. These guys (and girl) get into cars for 3+ hours in over 100 degree heat, run 200mph and get 6-8 inches from another car...a lot of times actually making contact on purpose. Now I can fully understand why people would think watching cars is boring but I can make an argument that every sport is boring. Who wants to watch a couple of guys on steroids in their underwear doing fake moves on each other? Who wants to see a couple guys in their boxers laying on top of each other occasionally actually connecting with a punch and call it MMA. Looks more like Man loving to me. Or basketball, watching a bunch of guys run up an down a court by putting a ball into a hole....sounds boring to me...but people (including myself) eat it up. Its the little things that people dont "look at" that makes it important. You dont look at wrestlers as rednecks in tight pants. You see the timing skills, their showmanship and charisma. You dont look at basketball players as tall guys running around throwing a ball at a hole. You see their pin point accuracy & clutchness of being able to have a guy put his hand in your face, basically blind you and you can still shoot 35ft away and put the ball in the basket. Same can be said for NASCAR, if you look at it as "cars going left" its boring. But if you think about them taking 3000lb machines at 200mph where just the slightest touch will throw you into a wall with more G forces then any of us will ever experience and they do this all at less then a foot apart. You get a better respect/understanding for the sport.

If you don't have a favorite driver, you can't enjoy Nascar. That's my personal opinion. It's way more fun when you have someone to follow throughout the race, to see how they're doing, and the progress they are making.
