I like Renee, but I don't like this comparison.
To me, this comparison is equivalent of saying Daniel Bryan is a really good wrestler, therefore, he must be very close to the level of Lou Thesz.
It's a fallacy. Daniel/Renee are very good and stand out in todays product, but Thesz/Mean Gene are the greatests of all time. There really is no comparison.

I'd rather watch Daniel Bryan's worst match than the best match of the Lou Thesz era, or even the Sammartino era. I'd rather eat glass than sit through almost any wrestling pre-Hogan, actually. Older doesn't always mean better. If I see a wrestling ring filmed in black and white, I'm expecting ten-minute headlocks.

To throw older wrestling away as ten minutes of headlocks is a silly thing to say. There was more psychology and less spots in past eras. This lead to better in ring story telling, in my opinion. Lou Thesz, specifically, is much more that just a headlock guy. He invented the STF, the powerbomb, the Thesz Press, the belly-to-back wrist lock suplex as well as dozens of other moves.

Renee is great. Not on the level of Mean Gene or Lance Russel, but still very good. I think she can certainly raise her game as time goes on if given the right opportunities.

But I've already seen all of those moves tons of times, they're not going to excite me. At the time, sure, he was an innovator. But wrestling has evolved way past that point. I can sit through the slower-paced, older wrestling if there are colourful characters, but most pre-Hogan WWF/WWWF is just poison to my eyes.

Renee is so great at what she does. Amazing facial expressions. Also funny on Twitter. Like Josh Mathews and many before them are fine at what they do but didn't do anything to stand out like Mean Gene did. I would say Rene is right up there in that regard.
