Ok so we can all agree(surely) that Spielberg is one of THE most prolific Sci Fi directors EVER. so my difficult question is.....what's your favourite movie of his in this genre?
now I use the term Sci Fi/fantasy broadly here obviously and argued with myself over the inclusion of Jaws....but some magazines often list it in this genre. Basically if you don't agree it belongs....don't vote for it. Just don't turn the thread into a row over it.
now I thought about this for ages.....some of my all time fave's are up there......but it came down to Raiders or Jurassic Park.....and Jurassic Park JUST pipped it. Barely.
so what about you lads?

Raiders of the Lost Ark. Raiders is probably my favorite movie of all time, and certainly in my top 3 at worst. That being said, I don't really consider it Sci-Fi, but any time I can vote for it, I will haha.
I think Minority Report is truly Spielberg's best sci-fi film. It used an awesome user interface, and memory and hologram projection. We saw retina recognition advertising and it dealt with tough moral and political questions, and had a level of suspense and intrigue. Minority Report, viewed in a pure sci-fi vacuum, is really a very special film imo.

John Carpenter's the Thing is my favorite movie of all time.
Oops this is Spielberg only? Then I'd say Jurassic Park.

E.T. is for me one of the if not the best films ever made. And it easily makes my top 10 list. I love Indiana Jones (even the 4th), Jaws and Jurassic Park too, but for me NONE of them compare with the magic that is E.T. That being said, I haven't seen quite a few of these films yet, Close Encounters has been on my list to watch for some time now actually.

1.Raiders 2.E.T 3.Crusade 4.Close Encounters 5.Jurassic 6.Tintin 7.A.I. 8.Minority Report 9.Hook 10.Cystal Skull 11.Temple 12.Lost World
Don't consider Jaws either sci-fi or fantasy.

Well, from the list Jaws is my favorite of his movies. I still jump to this day when I see the scene where the head comes out of the hole in the sunken boat. plenty of nightmares back in the day from that scene. But I wouldn't say it's sci-fi...maybe fantasy seeing it's in fantasy magazines alot. Anyway after Jaws here is how I rank them.... 1. Raiders 2. Last Crusade 3. Jurassic Park 4. Close Encounters 5. Hook 6. Minority Report 7. Temple of Doom 8. Crystal Skull 9. Lost World
A.I. I saw once but I really don't remember it all that well. If it's the movie I am remembering Will Smith was the star.
As for the last two below besides their trailers I've never watched them.

Someone voted for the Lost World and didn't defend themselves? Haha I love dinosaurs, and Vince Vaughn, too but I'm not about to put Lost World above the original Jurassic Park. Maybe that was an accident...
I appreciate the vote for The Last Crusade as well. I think it's really a spectacular movie and I didn't realize anyone didn't like it until I discovered internet forums. Largely from the Temple of Doom crowd, fighting back I suppose. I feel there are plenty of times I watch Last Crusade and think I might like it more than RotLA. It's definitely the film on this list I have the biggest childhood attachment too. I'm pretty sure I wore out the VHS we owned.
If anyone hasn't seen every film on this list, please do. I think Crystal Skull is an abomination of CGI once Shia LaBeouf starts swinging from trees like a monkey, but the rest of that list is pretty damn good. Even the War of the Worlds remake is a bit under rated imo because it came out during the height of the Tom Cruise hate. ET, Jaws, Indy, Close Encounters, Jurassic Park, these are some of the greatest films ever.

One of, if not the, favourite film I've ever seen. IAN FREEEZE!!! Amazing. For me, personally, Jurassic Park & Jaws are 2 of the greatest horror films ever made...even though many won't put them into that category. I personally enjoy Temple of Doom the most out of all his films....just my favorite as a kid & what made me fall in love with the Indiana Jones character - even though it isn't the "best film" in that series, let alone his best work.

I looked at the list and thought to myself: "if all of these were on at the same time which one would I choose to watch." It came down to Raiders, Jurassic Park, or Minority Report. Finally, I decided that Jurassic Park just edged out Raiders.

I'm delighted to see JP getting so much love. I knows its beloved but I didn't know how well it would do against Spielberg's other offerings in this Genre.

Gonna have to say Raiders. Really enjoy Harrison Ford and it was a great movie to watch with my Grandfather while growing up.
