Thought this would be cool to have.
Many workers at Game Stop are wacky and funny to me. I just thought this could be a cool thread for everyone to share some funny Game Stop stories or possibly even your experience working at Game Stop( If it applies to you ).
Cant wait to see what stories or experiences you have to share.
Could range from meeting people at a Midnight Release or just an incident that occurred, etc.
Happy sharing.

Good thread my latest incident was on 11/15 I was trading in my ps3 to get my PS4 and I brought them an HDMI cable and they said no they need an AV optical. I was like WTF who buys the ps3 and doesn't have an HD tv. They wanted to charge me $20 for the cable and I was like screw this I'll just buy the ps4. I bought it and went to best buy and they gave me $100 for the ps3 plus all the games I had, and they didn't want the HDMI. I'm currently boycotting Gamestop

Love my local GameStop. I know I may be able to save a buck or two elsewhere but mine is pretty much a two man and a woman show. But the manager is pretty awesome to talk to, really cool guy. His Irish accent (immigrant from Ireland) makes conversation fun. I made a mention to him of my desire to visit Dublin and he and I got into an almost hour long discussion about Ireland so he earned himself a loyal customer so long as he is there.

Okay Im glad this thread is good.
Ill share. I remember going to purchase CoD:Ghosts(Regret of the Year) and this bigger guy who worked there was asking my age. I told him "16" and so he gives me a speech on how important school is and what not. He told me his whole high school life as if I cared. It was about a half hour conversation. Great guy to say the least. Its funny because I already have a 3.9 Grade point average.
Never been to any midnight releases though.

Surprisingly I've never had any strange encounters at a Gamestop. The two that I usually stop at have pretty damn cool employees that actually know what they're talking about when it comes to gaming.

Never had a bad experience at my Gamestop, or any others that I've been too. For as long as I've been going there, the employees have been always good. Right now there are two regular people who work there, who I usually end up getting into conversations about games. One of the guys there two, has saved me a lot of headaches too, from giving me suggestions on games. There were a few times, I asked his opinion on certain games, he told me they weren't too good, so I didn't buy them, and later found out it was the right choice. I've also been to a couple midnight releases, and they run it pretty smoothly. I know I hear stories of people's bad experiences there, but for me, I've never had one.

There's this one dude that works at my local store and I swear he's high as hell every time I go in there. I preordered a game and he asked me 3 different times if I wanted to preorder it and I said I just did....and he looked at me weird as hell for like 15 seconds and then said "oh, ok". I don't go there much, I find them to be pushy as hell about preordering stuff. I prefer the local shop 2 or 3 minutes from my house. They don't try to pressure you into preodering anything, plus they sell everything from NES games to PS4 and Xbox One.

I used to avoid Gamestop like the plauge, then 3D Games and Toys closed and Gamecrazy closed, so I am forced to go there now.

"Oh, I see you are buying Call of Duty, would you like to pre-order anything? Do you like first person shooters? I like first person shooters. Would you like to order any other first person shooters? If you pre-order you get a poster, coffee mug, statue and activation code but pre-order today because the posters won't last long. Would you like to look at the upcoming release calendar to pre-order anything? Please fill out this survey at the bottom of you receipt to let us know how we're doing and get GameStop points."

I've had nothing but issues with Gamestop for the last couple of years. I go to Vintage Stock pretty much any time I can.

I don't have any problems with Gamestop. They are what they are. Sure, there is the occasional douche manager or employee, but that is anywhere.
I just cut off their pre-order requests politely. If I don't like their trade offer amount, I don't trade it in. It's pretty simple.
I worked for EB Games, and other game stores in the 90s and early 00s. It's not as fun as people believe, and it's not like they enjoy having to try and get you to pre-order things or lose their job.

I have a bunch. I used to go to Gamestop on my lunch break at work. Everytime I would go in there I would find a used PS2 game I wanted to buy and would stand in line where at the front of the line the customer and the employee were bantering about some game being better than some other game, lets say Call Of Duty and Halo. Since my lunch break is only an hour long and I am on time constraints, I would put the game back in disgust. Also their prices for some of the used games were horrid such as $29.99 for a used copy of Jurassic Park Operation Genesis for PS2. Let's not forget that 99.999% of all used games don't have their original case and manual which is a major turn off for me.

About 2 weeks after GTA V came out I asked if they had any used copies.
The guy comes out with a generic GameStop case with "GTA V" written on it in marker.
No box, no manual, nothing but the disc. The game had only come out 2 weeks earlier. I don't buy stolen property. No buy.

It also bothers me a little the last 3 times I've preordered something at GameStop, and go to pick it up, the game is already been opened. That being said, I've never had an issue where say the Game Pass code (for like Madden or Batman) didn't work, but still. It's a little weird paying for a brand new game, only to get handed one that seems like it could have easily been one of the empty games on the shelf.
My biggest issue is the lack of true knowledge from most people I talk to. I went there with my brother one day, as he was trading in his family's Xbox and Wii for a Wii U. The whole point of the trade in was to use this coupon that he got for renewing his Game Informer subscription, so that he could have more credit and thus pay nothing down. So we sign up again, and the guy tells us the coupon will specifically be EMAILED. And that there's nothing he can do until the email comes across.
Two days go by, and no email. My brother calls out to another GameStop near by to ask them about it, in which he is infomred that the coupon is just like any other GameStop coupon and can be accessed by going to the Pro Rewards website and scanning the bar code. So instead of getting to trade everything in before Christmas as my brother wanted to, we ended up waiting until the day after Christmas all because of the misinformaton of one sales rep.
Then there was the time I got told off by a GameStop manager because I pre-ordered Banjo Kazooie 3 on 360, which came out on a Tuesday. Release date on line said Tuesday, my reciept for preording said Tuesday, and even the sign IN THE STORE said Tuesday. I come in Tuesday, and am told that the game doesn't come out until Wednesday. I explain that can't be correct, pointing at my reciept, the sign in the store, and mentioning the website. Mind you, it was around 10 in the morning so I hadn't even been up long enough to be a dick about this. All of a sudden, the manager just goes off on my for not understanding store policy and that my business was no longer wanted. He snatched my reciept, opened the register, and proceeded to toss my cash refund that I didn't even ask for on the counter.
So I snatched up the cash, along with the free digital copy of Banjo Kazooie 1 that came with the preorder anyways, and bought the game from TRU instead.

So I snatched up the cash, along with the free digital copy of Banjo Kazooie 1 that came with the preorder anyways, and bought the game from TRU instead. But... Would you like to pre-order anything? I do have to give the guy from the first story credit. For all of his misinformation (as he lied about a particular trade value of the coupon as well), he did convince my brother to Pre-Order Batman: Arkham Orgins for the Wii U. Not all of GameStop is bad. I think I just haven't had the best experiences lately. I pre-ordred Batman: AA for the PS3 and needed to get a new controller as well. Stopped off during my lunch to pick up both, and when I get home, the controller doesn't work. SO I have to drive all the way back out. Last week, I go up there and pick up a cheap copy of God of War for the PSP a friend gave me recently. The guy takes out the disk, looks at it all around, and then puts it back in the case. I get out to the car, and open the case to see if the manual was included. Right as I'm opening the case, the plastic shield for the game pops out and lands on my lap, seperate from the game. So I get out and take it back in, to get it replaced. I've worked at a BlockBuster back when they had the Game Center, so I've done a large amount of trades in the past. It amazes me the lack of Quality control sometimes. BTW, these stores are NOT all from the same GameStop in my area. There's 3, and they all are hit and miss. I miss Funcoland.
