Hi guys. I recently started catching up on some of the newer comics out there. So far I'm caught up on Batman, Detective Comics, Justice League, and Superior Spider-Man. Right now I'm working on All New X-Men and I'm loving it. I have four issues left until I'm caught up so I should be done this afternoon.
Anyway, it seems like a continuation from the main Uncanny X-Men series. So I've gotten the itch to go back and read the original series from the beginning. I was just wondering if it was worth it or if I should check out like key issues. I really wanna read through the 90s stuff and on for the most part.

I was just wondering if it was worth it or if I should check out like key issues. I really wanna read through the 90s stuff and on for the most part. It would take a lot of time to read through everything. I put together a little pack for a friend of mine looking to get into the X-Men, here's the list. Giant Size X-Men 1 Phoenix Saga (X-Men 101-108) Dark Phoenix Saga (129-138) Days of Future Past (141-142) God Loves Man Kills (Graphic Novel) The New Mutants (Graphic Novel)It's better to just read the uncannyxmen net or wikipedia entries on the next titles Mutant Massacre Fall of the Mutants Inferno X-Tinction Agenda X-Cutioner's Song Fatal Attractions The TwelveNow it gets messy. Grant Morrison's run is either loved or hated, there's no middle ground. I read through the whole thing and think it's worth it to read it all. But, there are a few must read story lines. E if for Extinction Here Comes Tomorrow Then, go ahead and queue up the Astonishing X-Men motion comics which pick up after Morrison's run. Now, after Messiah Complex, X Force starts. It ties in to a couple of these upcoming stories, so you'll be reading some key issues of the comic, but I suggest reading through the whole run. If not, you won't be missing anything big, as the big beats are covered in the crossovers. House of M Deadly Genesis Messiah Complex Messiah War Utopia Second ComingNow, before reading anything, make sure to read Uncanny X-Force. You could do the whole series, or just hit these main story lines. The Apocalypse Solution The Dark Angel Saga Final Execution Now just hit "Avengers vs X-Men" and you'll be pretty much caught up to where you are now.

I ended up just starting at Uncanny X-Men Volume 2. It looks like Uncanny X-Men is broken up in 3 volumes. I did read Days of Future Past and didn't like it.
It took me about a week to read because it just went so slow with characters over explaining things. Just to put it into perspective I read through 3 separate comics in less time than it took me to read the last 20 pages of Days of Future Past.

I read many of the x-men comics Marvel put out but im becoming disillussioned because Marvel are putting so many x-titles out. Ive narrowed down to Wolverine and the X-Men which i think is the best x-men comic, X-Men with the all female cast is really good and second best imo. All New X-Men is kinda waining on me and im a bit frustrated with it. I dont read Amazing X-Men and i did read Uncanny X-Men up until issue #13 which i enjoyed but i had to stop collecting it because i get too many comics as it is. Cant comment on volume 1 of Uncanny X-Men because i havent read any of it but by all accounts everyone always praises it and i should go back and read some of the stories. I think i might just stop with the X-Men comics altogether, i just think Marvel milk it too much with cross overs and endless x-men books. I was always a DC guy when i was a kid mainly due to Batman so i think its time to go back and just stick to Batman, TEC and Action Comics. Two comics i will recommend are Saga and American Vampire. American Vampire the second cycle just kicked off with issue 1 so it would be good time for you to join in and then go back and get the paperbacks from volume 1 onwards. Amazing book. Same with Saga, you should really check them out. You mentioned reading Justice League, i think Justice League Dark is the better book. Some will argue but i think the characters are much more interesting and the "dark" element just adds to the mystique and cool storylines. Its def one to check out. Good luck and let me know how you get on

Some will argue but i think the characters are much more interesting and the "dark" element just adds to the mystique and cool storylines. Its def one to check out. Good luck and let me know how you get on Dude, Amazing and Uncanny are the main event books. Just read those... Sure Wolverine, X-Men, Wolverine and the X-Men, All New X-Men, Savage Wolverine, and Magneto are out there, but Amazing and Uncanny are the only must reads in the X-Men universe. They don't double ship those either, so you can keep up with the main X-Men universe for 7 bucks a month! Sure, crossovers will force you to buy some other books every now and again, but who cares? Also, how you can talk about Marvel milking it with crossovers when this RIDICULOUSLY long Forever Evil stuff is still going on?! FOREVER EVIL STARTED BEFORE FOOTBALL SEASON and with the delays, won't be finished for another month. Justice League, Justice League of America, and Suicide Squad are pretty much must reads as well. THEN you have a different story going on in Justice League Dark, Constatine, The Phantom Stranger and Pandora. That's not even mentioning the 3 or 4 Forever Evil tie in mini series's which are 4-6 issues each! lol, I stopped reading all of Forever Evil in November and plan on catching up before the last ish comes out. I'm not trying to start an argument or anything, I'm just pointing out that the Justice League Dark book is doing the same thing you chastise X-Men for. I'm hesitant to start Saga because I read through Y The Last Man like it was f^(king crack! Y is the best finite comic ever done. Better than Watchmen, better than TDKR, better than anything I can think of. I also read Vaughn's Runaways run in 2 settings. I've got the first Saga trade just laying around, so I'll get to it eventually though. Well, Claremont's X-Men is Shakespeare, so I can understand people's dis-taste for it. But you made a great point, that being 60 pages now equals 20 pages then, which is actually pretty accurate! Like I said, Amazing and Uncanny are the only 2 books you really need. Uncanny X-Men 19.ONE came out last week, which is a PERFECT jumping on point and Amazing X-Men just wrapped up a big storyline last week, so Amazing X-Men #6 is a great place to start on that book. Also, I'm so sorry that your first big foray into X-Men comics was written by Gillen. Sure, there's a couple of nice beats here and there, but he's not very good.

Ive only been reading the Forever Evil mini series and the Justice League Dark cross over and i dont need to read any of the other Forever Evil ties in you mentioned. You sound like my brother who thinks you have to read every tie-in but you dont.
Marvel do cross overs way more than DC. Yes, Forever Evil has been running on a bit but you cant say that often about DC unlike Marvel. I feel like Marvel have a major cross over like every 2 or 3 months.
Also how can you say All New X-Men isnt one of the major X-Men books? Its been crossed over with Guardians of the Galaxy and the return of the original X-Men is a pretty big event in the Marvel Universe. I dont really see why you would say Uncanny and Amazing X-Men are the main x-books while the other x-boks arent. Especially seeing as Wolverine and his x-team are the alternative to uncanny x-men. The schism storyline gave you the option to follow both Wolverine and Cyclops respective teams or follow just one of them. I went with Wolverine and the X-men rather than both so how can you say its any less important than Uncanny?
I could well be wrong but i see both as major x-books.

Oh, you're absolutely right about WATXM being the "main" book of that side of the X-Men after Schism, but they made the switch to Amazing being that team's main book. The new WATXM is going to focus on the kids, while Amazing is going to deal with the grown up X-Men at the school. I won't be reading the other books. Just Forever Evil, JL,SS,and JLA. I might read Rogue's Rebellion at some point because who doesn't love The Rogues? I didn't say Marvel, I was comparing the X-Men to The Justice League. Which, honestly now that I think about it are pretty much even since their 2011 #1's, though there's 800x more Justice League tie-in books to go along with the crossovers... Either way, it's nice to talk about things like this on this particular board with someone who obviously keeps up with stuff.

Yea man it was the new 52 that got me collecting again after a several year hiatus.
Its interesting what you said about Amazing X-men. I was honestly getting fed up reading about the kids in WATXM and UXM. I didnt know the focus was being put on the adults in Amazing X-Men so i might collect that and dump WATXM. You should check out adjectiveless X-Men with the female cast, although not one of the main x-books its still easily one of the best.
Then ofcourse theres X-Force with Cable and his team. Volume 1 was a bit disappointing so i dont know whether to give volume 2 a chance.

Sadly, I'm one of those guys who reads every X-Men title. X-Men is okay so far...I hope that they stop making the heels in the book all women as well because having an all female book is a great idea (and long overdue!), but making them fight only women makes them seem...I dunno, weaker is a harsh word, but I think it fits here.
We'll see where this next X-Force book goes. I haven't read the second ish yet, but the first was okay. I'm not against Spurrier writing the book, but it drives me mad when you're reading something by a British author where the dialogue is way to British heavy. It'd make sense if he was writing for Cap Britain or something along those lines.
Y'know what I love best about the New 52? It's the way they make Martian Manhunter seem like such a bad@ss. That's probably the best thing character wise to come out of the relaunch...Also Justice League International. That was such a great book. Batman and Booster's relationship in that book was so awesome.
What all do you read on a monthly basis?
