Everyone ostracizes the SHW as the "Red-head stepchild" of the Wyatt Family, because Bray is the leader with the best interviews, & Luke Harper is the workhorse.
However, Erik Rowan is not as bad as everyone makes him out to be. I'll summarize with two key points.
#1: Experience.
Erik Rowan is a decade veteran of the business with respect for the business. He was trained by Eddie Sharskey, the same man who play a key role in the development of the Road Warriors, Rick Rude, & Bob Backlund.
#2: Consistency. His character is a lumbering henchman with no technical ability. He has convinced us that he can do nothing else, but also capitalized on the psychotic side of his character in order to come up with creative means of torture.
His side to side bearhug, & vice grip with his fist to the temples are primary examples. I'm not claiming he's a rembrant of the wrestling canvas, but he does make his character believable, but interesting. That's a legitimately, difficult feat to accomplish.
To conclude, Erik Rowan is a hard working contributor to his group, & every match he's in. He makes mistakes as we all do, but no more than anyone else. He has not injured anyone so far, so he deserves credit for that.
He's not great, I think his best work will be as part of the Family since he's only won me over by teaming with Harper, but he's good enough for his position with steady improvement. Which is more than I can say for several performers who were/have been pushed twice as hard over the last five years.

I guess I haven't heard much complaining about him. I think Harper gets a lot of love because he's an indie favorite. I like Rowan a lot and I think people are following the buzzards because I've seen a few posts calling for Harper and Rowan to get the belts soon. I think. It seems like that's something I've read a few times. Rowan's solid and he sells the crazy really well IMO.

I think it's getting funny/silly how much admiration of certain workers are attributed to their indie work. I like Harper because for a big man he moves well and brings his character into the ring.. with his hollering and the gator-roll. It has nothing to do with prior indie work.
To TBS (my new abbreviation to the original poster), I agree with your points.. however he'll be, most likely, viewed as the weak link of that team for his whole run with them, due to his (seemingly) inferior ability on the mic and (at least in my view) inferior in-ring ability to Harper.

Harper put Ambrose through a sheet of glass. He's awesome. Also... Rowan is just... Mehh.

I wish they would give Rowan more mic time. He only spoke two words in The Wyatt Family promo video, "we're coming" but it sounded terrifying!

He portrays his character very well. I don't think he is or should be technically sound. Rowan is there to lumber around and do some clubberin.
I still don't like watching him wrestle for long periods. He can be very clumsy though.

Harper put Ambrose through a sheet of glass. He's awesome. Also... Rowan is just... Mehh. Putting Ambrose through a sheet of glass makes them both extremely stupid. Thank God their both in an environment now where they won't unnecessarily risk their health and well being. The hurricarana is pretty cool, though. And to reply to the OP; Rowan is great. The majority of Internet fans are predisposed to hate him because of his style, but I dig it. He surely is the one who benefits the most from the Family, though. One can argue that Harper will be successful on his own and Bray; well we all know how high he's sure to go, but Rowan might struggle a lot after the initial break up of the family.

Luke Harper is a great wrestler, but this dude is a legit monster of a man & I have no problem with him. I actually prefer his wrestling to Bray if I'm being honest. Bray's a good character, but maybe it's the move set -- too gimmicky for me.

Agreed. Rowan needs a bit of work. I definitely like Luke Harper the most. I like Bray dont get me wrong, but I just like Harper's style a bit more.

He is definitely the worst of the three, but that doesn't mean is bad at what he does. Some editorials I have read have made him out to be dangerous in the ring, but I have yet to see anything that has made me wince when he is performing. However, if/when they are split, he will definitely struggle on his own.

Like he could switch to a new animal mask at the break-up. Maybe every year or so he becomes a new monster through a new mask? Bear, goat, turtle, bird, elephant, anteater, whatever. And I'm ready for his elite to be on my shelf with mask. I can't wait.

He has the least diverse skill set, but he is the best strength wrestler of the group. Each member has their specific job, which only they can accomplish. Thus, they're all needed to make the faction work. I'm not writing this directly to you, but to the thread as a whole. Moving on, to be the round-it-out member of a group featuring the most agile big-man from the Indy circuit, & one of the profession's best interviews hands down, does't directly mean that you're flat-out horrible.

I don't mind Rowan. But the problem is he hasn't had a chance to be unleashed yet. He's looked good in tag matches, but besides the mask he they haven't showcased his character much. He needs a shtick.

I won't forget how he flung Bryan so hard into the dasherboards on Raw, some dude in the front row dropped his smart phone onto the ringside mats.

Harper put Ambrose through a sheet of glass. He's awesome. Also... Rowan is just... Mehh. If they used light tubes then they have pretty much written their tickets to first ballot hall of game status. It's also interesting to see that Chikira uses a basic mattel ring.
