[Please note that this sim is based on an EWR scenario that I found on the Net some time ago. I honestly can't remember where I got it, as it's not listed in the EWR Warehouse. Therefore, all placements prior to the start of this scenario are, based on the opinion of whoever did this, historically accurate up to January 1st 1998.
Also, some workers have been added to the database but, in the default scenario, had an age which prevents them from showing up on searches for new workers. These include familiar names like CM Punk, Colt Cabana, and others. Please note that I have altered some of these ages up to 18 where I felt it was appropriate to allow them to be accessed quicker in the game. However they will not play a huge role as of yet, because their skills still need refining.
This, I hope, will span several seasons, at least until I have forced WWE out of business. With that out of the way, let's begin.]It was December 31st, 1997. World Championship Wrestling had just finished it's most profitable year in its existence. With the most talented roster in North American wrestling, nearly endless funds from media conglomerate Time Warner, and having stolen away one of the biggest names from its primary competition, WCW looked to 1998 to finish off the WWF once and for all and rule the wrestling world. That didn't happen. Through a mixture of mismanagement and ego-driven politics, WCW squandered its advantage, while the WWF broke new ground with an edgier television product, launching professional wrestling into a pop culture stratosphere that it had never seen before. Over the next three years, WCW would be systematically destroyed by one bad decision after another, until at last in March of 2001, it was purchased by Vince McMahon for a mere fraction of its worth less than three years prior. But what if it didn't happen that way... There will be tough choices along the way. Rosters have to be trimmed. New Blood has to be promoted, but in the end, this is a necessary evil. This is a world where WCW did not stagnate under the weight of its own ego and hubris. This is a world where it remained a viable and innovative company throughout 1998 and beyond. This is my world, where WCW lives...World Championship Wrestling Roster as of January 1st, 1998: Champions WCW World Heavyweight Champion: Sting WCW United States Champion: Diamond Dallas Page WCW World Television Champion: Booker T WCW Cruiserweight Champion: Ultimo Dragon WCW World Tag Team Champions: Rick & Scott Steiner (The Steiner Brothers) Wrestler

January 1st, 1998
- Rumors of a shakeup in World Championship Wrestling, despite the lead that they currently enjoy over the rival World Wrestling Federation, seem to have come true today, as WCW announced a massive round of cuts to both it's staff and it's roster. The following individuals were let go this morning:
AC Jazz Barry Horowitz Barry Houston Big Ron Studd Bobby Blaze Bobby Eaton Bobby Walker Bull Payne Chad Fortune Chae An Chase Tatum Chip Minton Ciclope Dale Torborg Damien Dennis Rodman El Dandy Fyre Greg Valentine Hammer Hardbody Harrison Hiroyoshi Tenzan Horshu Ice Train Jerry Tuite Jim Powers Joey Maggs John Nord Kendall Windham Kenny Kaos Kevin Greene Kevin Northcutt Kid Romeo Lanny Poffo Lenny Lane Lizmark Jr. Lorenzo Mark Starr Maxx Muscle Mean Mike Michael Wallstreet nWo Sting Ralphus Rick Cornell Rick Fuller Road Block Roddy Piper Robbie Rage Scott Armstrong Scotty O Sgt. Buddy Lee Parker Shiima Nobunaga Silver King Spice Stevie Ray Super Calo Tayo Terry Taylor The Disciple The Renegade Tough Tom Victor Mar Manuel Whisper
Obviously the largest of these cuts was that of Roddy Piper, but WCW had nothing creative for him to do, hence his release. Rumors are that cuts might not be completed yet, and some members of the backstage area are said to be incensed by who was cut.
In addition, some staff positions were cut as well:
Announcers Lee Marshall Scott Hudson
Trainer Michael Wenner
- However it would seem that these cuts were not because of budgetary reasons, but rather because of opening space on the roster. WCW has once again raided national promotion ECW to find it's newest crop of stars, having signed Rob Van Dam, Tazz, The Pitbulls and The Dudley Boyz to written contracts. Also signed to contracts for the main roster are Devon Storm & Joe E. Legend.
- In other news, a few people from the main roster were sent to development for further seasoning at the Power Plant.
Sent to Development David Heath Doc Dean Johnny Swinger Julio Sanchez
Also, despite the rash of firings, new people were signed to begin developmental deals...these include:
Adam Pearce Allen Jones Austin Aries Brian Kendrick Bryan Danielson Charlie Haas Christian York CM Punk Colt Cabana Joey Matthews John Cena Johnny Kashmere Paul London Reckless Youth Russ Haas Samoa Joe Shelton Benjamin Trent Acid
More signings are expected to follow in the coming days.
- WCW is pleased to announce sponsorship deals with Sports Illustrated, Nintendo, Stacker 2 and 1-800-Collect.
- WCW Thunder preview:
- In the first show since Starrcade, World Championship Wrestling debuts it's new show in Thursday Night Thunder! Sting is the new WCW champion, having defeated Hollywood Hogan this past Sunday. However the question about a possible fast count still lingers. Sting will be in attendance, will he finally break his silence? What will Hollywood Hogan have to say about this past Sunday night's events? And where does Bret Hart fit into this equation?
- We will also see a return match from Starrcade, as new WCW United States Champion Diamond Dallas Page will defend his newly won US Title against former champion Curt Hennig. Will the newly crowned People's Champ be successful in his first title defense? Or will Hennig recapture the gold and get the nWo back on track.
- There have been rumors of friction mounting amongst some of the big players of the nWo, culminating in Kevin Nash no-showing this past Sunday for his match against The Giant. The Outsiders are guaranteed to be at Thunder tonight. Will there be a confrontation with the Giant, or is there anything to these potential rumors of discontent in the ranks of the New World Order. We hope to get more information when Gene Okerlund interviews The Outsiders tonight.
- Plus much more WCW action including The Steiner Brothers, Goldberg, Raven and more. Be sure to tune in to WCW Thunder, live 8:05/7:05 only on TBS!

WCW Thunder January 1st, 1998 Charlotte, NC Match #1: Fit Finlay d. Ernest "The Cat" Miller at 6:31 with a Tombstone Piledriver- The match was a pretty even affair through most of the night, as Miller used his martial arts background to keep the brawling Finlay on his toes. However Finlay eventually caught Miller unawares and hit him with a Tombstone to secure the win. ----- Interview with Hollywood Hogan- Hollywood Hogan comes out flanked only by Eric Bischoff, still air guitaring on his now non-existant WCW Title belt. Bischoff takes the mic first. Bischoff: "You people will have to forgive me if I'm a little depressed tonight. This was supposed to be the night. This was supposed to be our night! And instead I have to listen to all the high-minded WCW execs talking about how Sting beat Hogan at Starrcade. Go ask any of them. Go ask JJ Dillon about it. Go ask Harvey Schiller about it! But I have a problem with that logic cause see, we all saw what happened last Sunday night. We saw that this man to my left, the biggest icon in all of professional wrestling, pinned Sting's shoulders to the mat 1-2-3! And referee Nick Patrick counted it fair and square. But because of the actions of one cowardly man, Hollywood Hogan was screwed out of the World Heavyweight Championship last night. Tell 'em champ!" Hogan: "Well ya know somethin Eric Bischoff! I'll get to that man Bret Hart in a moment brother. The first thing I want to make clear to all you nWo-ites out there, is don't get used to the sight you see right now, of Hollywood Hogan without that gold around his waist! See I've got a guaranteed rematch clause in my contract, and the first chance I get, next Monday night on Nitro, I'm using it to get my belt back!" - Schiavone and Heenan go nuts over the announcement of Sting/Hogan at Monday Nitro. Hogan: "So Sting, whatever rock you crawled back under after you cheated your way to victory this past Sunday brother, I hope you don't get too comfortable. Cause this Monday Night on Nitro, I'm bringing back the nWo World Heavyweight Title, and proving once and for all that I am the best in the sport of professional wrestling, today, tomorrow and forever more. And speaking of that..." - Hogan stops, as a small "We Want Bret" chant has started up. He milks the crowd a bit before going back to the mic. Hogan: "There seems to be a new player in the market for biggest icon in professional wrestling. Listen to me Bret, I'll give you one piece of advice for free: Stay the heck away from Hollywood Hogan and the nWo. You were never anything close to an icon, when I was runnin the show up north brother. And now you think that because you had a couple of good matches with a scrawny little kid that you can come into this arena...into the house that Hollywood Hogan built, and claim to be the best there is, the best there was, and the best there ever will be. That don't fly jack! So I'm only going to tell you this once. Stay out of my way. Stay out of the nWo's way, and we won't have a problem. Get in our way again, and you'll be buried, just like everyone else in front of Hollywood Hogan has been buried. Just like Sting will be buried this Monday night. Whatcha gonna do Stinger, when the 24-inch pythons and the nWo annihilate you!" - Hogan's music hits as we cut to commercial break. ----------- - A video clip airs, showing a man walking through the streets of Brooklyn. A pulsing heartbeat plays in the background. Finally, the screen goes dark, and a man says "Survive if I let You..." Match #2: Bill Goldberg d. La Parka at 3:23 with a Jackhammer slam.
- The match proved to be a total squash, as Goldberg made short work of the self-appointed chairman of WCW to extend his streak to 17-0. - The team of Buff Bagwell & Scott Norton are backstage talking between themselves, as they seemed determined to become the new WCW Tag Team Champions in the near future. ----------- Match #3: Ultimo Dragon d. Chris Jericho at 11:19 by disqualification
- Jericho is disqualified following a back and forth non-title matchup between the two. After Jericho is disqualified for delivering a low blow to the champ. Jericho rushes to the timekeeper's table and steals the cruiserweight championship belt, running to the back as fast as he can with Dragon in hot pursuit. ----------- Interview with The Outsiders
- Mean Gene Okerlund is in the ring ready to interview his guests at this time, The Outsiders. Hall and Nash make their way to the ring. Okerlund: "Kevin Nash, let's start with you. This past Sunday at Starrcade, you failed to show up for your scheduled match with The Giant, leading many people to believe that you are in fact scared of facing the seven foot behemoth..." Nash: "Look Gene-O I'm gonna stop you right there, cuz me and Scotty have got bigger fish to fry, no pun intended, than the ole Jolly Green Giant. But if it makes ya feel better, than I'll fight him when I'm good and ready. Fact is: you guys seem to be missing the point of what we told you when we started this little invasion; we do what we want, when we want. When I want to fight The Giant, I'll show up. Till then, I'll just kick back and watch him try and stay relavent." Okerlund: "Now wait just a minute! You signed a binding contract, a contract that you..." Nash: "I've spoken my peace about this little man. Don't you worry your pretty little bald head though, when the time is right, Big Sexy will be here to show you, The Giant, and everyone else who the real dominant big man of professional wrestling is." Hall: "Hey yo...speaking of bigger fish, I got something I wanna say. Everyone seems to have forgotten that I won World War 3, and in less than three weeks, I have a guaranteed title match against whoever the champion is. So Sting, don't get all focused on fighting Hollywood this Monday, cause at Souled Out, your looking at the next world heavyweight champion." Okerlund: "Be that as it may, I'm curious what you will do if it's Hollywood Hogan who is the champion, and not Sting?" - Hall starts to answer, but Nash intercedes. Nash: "I'm not stupid Gene, I know what you're trying to get Scotty and me to say. Fact of the matter is that everything is copacetic with the nWo, and if Hollywood's the champ, we'll deal with that when the time comes. Till then, it's nWo 4 life." Hall: "And if you think this war is over...it hasn't even begun." - Hall throws his toothpick at Okerlund and leave the ring. Schiavone states the obvious, saying it's just a matter of time before we see Nash and The Giant hook up. ------- Match #4: Lex Luger d. Hugh Morrus at 8:42 by submission with the Torture Rack - Hugh Morrus did manage to get a bit of offense in near the start of the match, but the strength and in-ring savy of Luger was too much, as Morrus missed his No Laughing Matter Moonsault and then got the big man up in the Torture Rack. After the match, Luger got on the mic. Luger: "This past Sunday was a big win for World Championship Wrestling, and a personal victory, for my good friend Sting. Now Sting isn't here tonight that I know of. But wherever you are Sting, I want you to know, that we're all proud of you, and we will all be proud to stand alongside you once again to fight the nWo and finish this war once and for all. That being said, I hope that you'll show yourself soon. We've waited over a year to hear you say something, anything, about what's going through your head, and hopefully, you'll be ready to break your silence soon." - Luger then leaves the mic, a disappointed look on his face at his friend not being there tonight. ------- - As we come from commercial break, Raven and his flock have jumped the barricade and entered the ring. Raven's Flock is missing one member, as Hammer is nowhere to be seen. Raven takes the microphone. Raven: "As I sit back in the corner, watching these two entities in WCW and the nWo fight in an endless struggle for domination over the other, I am reminded of the fact that I am an outsider. And not just someone who calls themselves that because it looks good on a T-Shirt, I truly exist outside your putrid society. I am a reflection of that society. And as a reflection of violence, I am forced to get violent as well. It is high time for the Flock, a group that many have described as nothing more than a band of misfits, to prepare for war. To that end, I have taken the liberty of seeing Hammer out of the Flock, and over the next few weeks, The Flock will grow stronger in turn. To date, only Saturn has shown himself to be worthy of my guidance and of following my banner. The rest of you, have work to do. Tonight, that work begins. Quoth the Raven...Nevermore." - Raven gets out of the ring as Lodi prepares to proof himself for his boss. Match #5: The British Bulldog d. Lodi at 4:01 with a running powerslam- After the match, per his promise, Raven lays into Lodi and delivers an Evenflow DDT, as the rest of the Flock minus Saturn looks on with trepidation. -------- Match #6: Diamond Dallas Page d. Curt Hennig at 17:38 with a Diamond Cutter to retain the WCW United States Championship - The match started off with DDP getting the upper hand on Hennig, but Hennig turned the tide when he tossed Page into the steel ring steps at ringside, hurting Page's noted injured ribs. Hennig then had several near falls before Page managed to turn the match around, and in the end countered an attempted Hennig-plex into a Diamond Cutter for the 1-2-3. Afterwards, Page begins to celebrate, but the cameras quickly cut backstage to... -...see that WCW's Championship Committee member James J. Dillon is being viciously assaulted by the nWo. The contingent, led by Hall & Nash, beat down the 50+ year old man and leave him lying in a pool of his own blood before WCW officials and athletes manage to chase the nWo off to a waiting car. They stand over their fallen leader, with the camera panning to see his unconscious face, before fading to black. --------

WCW News and Notes - WCW was very pleased with 5.12 rating that was earned for the debut episode of Thursday Night Thunder. - Brian Adams has been signed to a two-year contract, as has Matt Borne. Hollywood Hogan has also resigned a one-year contract. Despite rumors, World Championship Wrestling is not interested in signing away Phineas I Godwinn, who's contract is rumored to expire soon. - Ace Darling, Bunkhouse Buck, Cibernetico, Iron Mike Ehrhardt & Pat Tanaka have been signed to open contract deals. It's expected they will be used primarily as enhancement talent. - Developmental Deals have been signed by newly released WWF talent Andrew Martin, Christopher Daniels, Matt Hardy, & Christian Cage. It is unknown if this is the first of many developmental releases by the WWF, as they look to consolidate their roster with limited resources. - Following his loss on Thunder, Lodi has been sent to developmental for seasoning. WCW Saturday Night January 3rd, 1998
Match #1: Alex Wright d. Chavo Guerrero Jr. at 5:57 with a German Suplex - Standard match that saw Alex Wright score a pinfall after Chavo missed on a missle dropkick from the top rope. ------- Match #2: The Faces of Fear (Meng & The Barbarian) d. The Destruction Crew (Wayne Bloom & Mike Enos) at 12:14 [Meng over Bloom] with a Tongan Death Grip
- Relatively competitive match all things considered. Bloom & Enos got some offense in by isolating The Barbarian, but once Meng was in it was a different story. Jimmy Hart and The Barbarian had a little trouble pulling Meng off of Wayne Bloom at the end, but were eventually successful. - A video preview of the upcoming Hollywood Hogan vs. Sting match for this coming Monday Nitro airs. ------- Match #3: Glacier d. Iron Mike Ehrhardt at 6:01 with The Krionic Kick - Glacier ends a bit of a losing streak with a victory of the debuting Ehrhardt. Glacier celebrates afterwards to a tepid response. ------- Match #4: Steven Regal d. Jim Duggan at 9:03 by submission with The Regal Stretch
- Though the match lasted awhile, Regal throughly dominated Duggan. Afterwards, Regal refused to release the hold until sinching in a little extra pain for Duggan. - After the match, we are shown the same spot hyping the oncoming debut of Taz from this past Thunder. ------- Match #5: Public Enemy (Rocco Rock & Johnny Grunge) d. PG-13 (JC Ice & Wolfie D) at 11:48 [Grunge over Ice] with The Drive-By - Evenly paced match that saw a couple of close falls by the debuting PG-13, but alas it was to no avail. After the match, however, Public Enemy are attacked by two men in tie-dye shirts that Tenay and Zbysko quickly recognize as D-Von & Buh Buh Ray Dudley. A pair of 3-D's later and The Public Enemy have been left lying. ------- Match #6: Eddie Guerrero d. WCW TV Champion Booker T in a non-title match at 15:17 with a school boy - This very evenly paced matchup saw several near falls by both men, and in the end Guerrero won with a school boy rollup and a fist full of tights. Guerrero then high-tailed it out of there, a possible future shot at the TV title in his future. ------- WCW Monday Nitro Preview
- After an exciting title defense on the part of DDP over Curt Hennig, the nWo fired off the newest shot in this war by viciously attacking Championship Committee Member James J. Dillon. Rumors have been circulating concerning Dillon's condition and what WCW corporate is planning as a response to this horrendous attack. A major announcement concerning the future of the WCW is expected to be delivered this Monday Night, stay tuned!
- In spite of the attack on JJ Dillon, the show must indeed go on, and go on it will! Hollywood Hogan announced on Thunder that he would exercise his rematch clause against new WCW champion Sting this coming Monday night. Live from the Georgia Dome in Atlanta, we will live perhaps the most anticipated rematch in wrestling history as Sting defends the title against the leader of the nWo. In the midst of this foray is the looming challenge of Outsider Scott Hall, courtesy of his victory at World War 3. Will Hall interject himself in the match to influence who he may face?
- Chris Jericho decided he wouldn't wait for an opportunity to be handed to him, instead taking the Cruiserweight Title Belt he covets by force. Both Jericho and the true champion Ultimo Dragon will be in Atlanta. Will Dragon be able to secure his title belt once more, or will the leader of the Jericholics outsmart him again?
- Plus The Steiner Brothers will face Vicious & Delicious in a non-title match, and appearences by Raven, Chris Benoit and more. Don't miss Monday Nitro, this coming Monday night!

WCW Monday Nitro January 5th, 1998 Atlanta, GA
Interview with James J. Dillon
-After a rundown of what happened last week on Thunder, Tony Schiavone and Bobby Heenan send it to Gene Okerlund, who welcomes Championship Executive James J. Dillon to the ring. Dillon slowly makes his way to the ring, sporting a neckbrace and a cast over his right wrist. Okerlund helps him into the ring and they stand in the center.
Okerlund: "JJ Dillon thank you for being with us tonight. I know that this must have been a very painful and trying weekend for you and your family."
Dillon: "Thank you Gene and I want to say to all the WCW fans out there who have sent their concerns and well-wishes over the last four days are greatly appreciated both by me and my family. We know that the fans of World Championship Wrestling do not condone as vicious an assault as was given to me last week, or to anyone for that matter."
Okerlund: "To that end there certainly should be some degree of retribution towards the people who perpetrated that attack. It seemed like it was orchestrated mostly by Kevin Nash."
Dillon: "Rest assured that any discussions of fines or suspensions are going to be discussed at length by the championship committee. But any short-term retribution on my part is going to have to be set aside. As you can see, I'm not in any real condition to govern effectively."
Okerlund: "What are you saying?"
Dillon: "I'm saying I'm over fifty years old Gene, and even in my younger days I was never in the best physical shape. This physical assault has shown me that I am not capable of handling the rigors of this job, and the unintended physical consequences that could arise from dealing with volatile personalities such as those in the nWo. Therefore, as of this afternoon, I informed the championship committee that I was going to resign my position as head of the Championship Committee, effective immediately."
- Schiavone and Heenan are shocked by this, as is Okerlund, but Dillon quickly placates them.
Dillon: "However, before officially tendering my resignation, I was allowed the opportunity to choose my successor. And he is a man who can handle the difficult personalities he'll have to deal with. And, if necessary, he can dish out the punishment as well. To that end, let me introduce the new head of the WCW Championship Committee...The American Dream Dusty Rhodes!
- Dusty Rhodes comes out to a standing ovation, and exclamations of a bombshell announcement from Schiavone. Dusty gets in the ring, shaking the unbroken hand of JJ Dillon, who motions for Dusty to take center stage.
Okerlund: "Never in my wildest dreams did I think for one second that you Dusty Rhodes, would be in this position!"
Rhodes: "Lemme tell ya somethin Mean Gene, I didn' see it comin myself. I got the call this mornin and flew out ta Atlanta Georgia right here tonight! I am humbled and honored, that I've been given this position of authoriteh, and I would like to thank James J. Dillon, for the leadership and tenacity he has shown this company over the last 12 months, thank you James."
- Rhodes hugs Dillon, who has a few tears in his eyes, before turning back to Gene.
Rhodes: "And with that outta way, let's get down to bizniss, if you weell...the New World Order, in all its glory and splendah, thinks they can push me around? That won't happen. Tonight we got the rematch of the century between Sting and Hollywood Hogan. Not only will Nick Patrick not be the referee, not only will it be no disqualifications, but if anyone interferes, they will be suspended indefinitely, if ya know what I mean!"
"Furthermore. Kevin Nash...you walked out of Starrcade last Sunday, with no excuse whatsoever. Aside from any reprecussions comin from what you did to Mistah Dillon, you'll have to make that match up at Souled Out. At Souled Out in thirteen days, you're going to face The Giant one on one. And this time if you don't show, you'll be suspended without pay indefinitely."
- The crowd cheers for the announcement.
"I'm jus gettin started. Tonight, a whole new chapter in da war between the nWo and WCW is gonna begin, and De American Dream is only happy to be along for the ride!"
- Rhodes salutes the crowd and we cut to commercial break.
-----------
Following the announcement of Dusty Rhodes as the new head of the championship committee, Schiavone and Heenan speculate on what this could mean for the future of the nWo, as we begin with our first match of the night.
Match #1: Rob van Dam d. Prince Iaukea at 6:31 with a Five Star Frogsplash - RVD makes his debut tonight against the former Television Champion, and looks impressive in doing so, with the crowd marveling at his athletic prowess. Schiavone comments that the highly competitive cruiserweight division seems to have gotten just a little bit more crowded at the top as RVD celebrates his debut win.
A recap from this past Saturday Night is shown, as the debuting Dudley Boyz attacked Public Enemy. It is known that The Dudleys will make their official WCW debut at this coming Thursday's Thunder, and speculation of the retribution of Public Enemy remains high.
------------
Match #2: Chris Jericho d. Rey Mysterio Jr. at 16:01 with a Lionsault - Jericho came out to the ring wearing the Cuiserweight Title belt, and demanding to be referred to as the WCW Cruiserweight Champion. Mysterio interrupted his opening tirades, attacking him from the opening bell. It was a back and forth matchup with Mysterio nearly scoring the win with his springboard hurancanrana. However, the second time he went for the move Jericho countered into a powerbomb, before hitting a quick Lionsault and securing the win. Right afterwards, Ultimo Dragon came out of the crowd and made a beeline for Jericho. Dragon hit several martial arts kicks to the false champion, but Jericho slithered away before Dragon could recover his title belt.
------------
Before our next match, Raven comes out of the crowd with the Flock. True to form, Lodi, who lost last week to the British Bulldog and was uncermoniously dumped from The Flock, is nowhere to be seen.
Raven: "Last week, I set forth the challenge to my flock to prove their worth and to earn their place at my side, as I share my pain with the whole of WCW. Lodi failed to live up to that challenge, and he has been cast from our confidence. Tonight, Scotty, you will have the same challenge. Don't fail me...quoth the Raven...nevermore."
Match #3: Riggs d. Mortis at 9:09 with a jumping piledriver - Mortis came to the ring with James Vandenberg, seemingly curious about Raven. The match went back and forth, but Riggs eventually won a hard fought match with a jumping piledriver. Afterwards Vandenberg is in the ring berating his man Mortis, who looks annoyed. Raven, still on the outside, takes the mic as he watches.
Raven: "Mortis...you impressed me with your performance tonight. But I am not impressed by your psychological need to be led around by a small minded individual like Vandenberg. In my company, you need not fear the shame your face would bring. Instead, you will embrace it. You need not hide behind that clown mask this man and others like him make you wear. In my company, you are free to be yourself..."
- Vandenberg, grabbing a mic from ringside, has had enough.
Vandenberg: "This doesn't concern you Raven. This man here, owes a debt of gratitude to me that your feeble mind can't understand. You come out here quoting poetry because it sounds cool. You know nothing of true darkness, or true pain. Mortis has survived that pain...and if I have to remind him of that pain to motivate him, then I will do so at my leisure. Your approval, or your opinion, is not warranted, nor is it wanted. Let's go Mortis."
- Vandenberg turns to leave, but Mortis merely stands there looking at Raven, who stares back at him. Vandenberg turns back around and starts yelling at Mortis again for them to leave. Mortis ignores him, until Vandenberg slaps him in the face. At this point, Mortis grabs Vandenberg and drops him with a Flatliner. Mortis then looks back to Raven, before removing his mask, revealing the man underneath. Raven says nothing, and merely walks from the ring back through the crowd, the rest of the Flock and Mortis following him.
-------
The same promo video hyping the debut of Tazz that we've seen the last few weeks returns.
Gene Okerlund is back out for an interview with The Total Package Lex Luger. Luger gets on the mic, and he appears to be upset.
Luger: "Last week, I made a point to congratulate Sting on his title victory. Tonight, he is in the biggest match of his life. I wanted to talk with you Sting, to find out what's going through your head. But instead I find that your door is shut to me. I'm your best friend Sting, I have been since day one here in WCW. To say I'm disappointed in you, would be inaccurate. I know you've got a lot going on right now. But the time is coming soon when I won't be able to understand. The time is coming when you'll have to answer for why you've done what you've done over the last year and a half. And when that time comes, I hope you have the answers that I'm looking for."
- Schiavone and Heenan don't know what to make of this revelation.
------
Match #4: Vicious & Delicious (Buff Bagwell & Scott Norton) d. WCW Tag Team Champions The Steiner Brothers (Rick & Scott Steiner) in a non-title match at 14:47 (Bagwell over Rick Steiner) with a small package. - Bagwell & Norton have made no question of their desire to be tag team champions. The match's end comes when Rick Steiner is on fire from a hot tag by Scott. Rick prepares to Steiner-Line Bagwell, but Scott is distracted by Vincent on the outside and fails to see Rick running against the ropes. They bump into each other, sending Scott careening to the floor. Rick is distracted long enough for Bagwell to score the pin with a small package. V&D celebrate the victory and head to the back, while the Steiner's discuss with themselves what just went wrong.
------
Match #5: Bill Goldberg d. Jim "The Anvil" Neidhart at 6:01 with a Jackhammer Slam - The power that Jim Neidhart shows does manage to confuse Goldberg for all of about a minute, but Goldberg then makes short work of the veteran as he delivers a Jackhammer and moves to 18-0.
Backstage, we see Hollywood Hogan prepping for his match. He tells the rest of the nWo to lay back, as he can handle this. The nWo didn't look to eager to help anyway, as they know what could happen to them if they interfere.
------
Match #6: Sting d. Hollywood Hogan at 20:09 with a Scorpion Death Drop to retain the WCW World Heavyweight Title - Sting finally puts it to bed once and for all as he defeats Hogan in a back and forth match. Sting wins the No DQ match cleanly via a Scorpion Death Drop to a steel chair, afterwards however there is an attempt by a sneak attack from Scott Hall. Hall attempts to hit Sting with a chair, but Sting counters the attempted chair shot and pummels Hall for a few seconds before the rest of the nWo comes out to save Hall and Hogan, leaving Sting standing tall in the center of the ring alone, the WCW title high above his head as we fade to black.

Welcome to the board.
WCW roster was massive!!
Good call in getting rid of all the dead weight, roster is probably still to big though.
Read through your shows and they are enjoyable and I'm and intrigued to see what direction you too take. A couple of bites of advice.
Maybe there's to much information to much detail but im sure you will find a preferred style over time, also maybe use bold a touch more maybe for the match titles and results.
Also I would hold off on so many debuts because the more that happen the less special they become.
Overall like I said enjoyed the two shows, good start.
Cheap plug; TNA March has been posted throughout the week, check it out!

Cheap plug; TNA March has been posted throughout the week, check it out! Thanks for the advice! I'm actually contemplating changing how I do things a little bit. I'm used to e-wrestling RP's and match writing, so it tends to be a little detailed at times and short on detail when I can't think of stuff. Some of the dead weight is filtering back, but merely to exist as "enhancement talent" signed to open contracts so they don't cost as much to use. Several people are in developmental at this time, and I think a few more cuts to the main roster will probably be necessary. I'll check out your diary and leave a comment after I finish reading it!

WCW Thunder January 8th, 1998 Daytona Beach, FL
- We begin with a rundown of what happened on Nitro, as Sting exercised the demons of his past and finally beat Hollywood Hogan clean in the middle of the ring. Tony Schiavone and Bobby Heenan announce that tonight, Lex Luger has promised that Sting will finally break his silence of a year and a half, something that we all, especially Lex Luger, have been waiting for anxiously. They also announce tonights main event, which will see Macho Man Randy Savage go one on one with The Giant.
Match #1: Steven Regal d. Norman Smiley at 5:56 by submission with The Regal Stretch - Essentially a squash match for Regal, as he makes short work of dancing Norman Smiley. Regal keeps Smiley in the Regal Stretch after the bell, prolonging his suffering. He then looks at the camera, demanding some real competition from WCW, something he has yet to see.
We cut backstage to see Hollywood Hogan making his way out to ringside, apparently with something on his mind.
--------------
Interview with Hollywood Hogan
- Hollywood Hogan makes his way to ringside, minus Eric Bischoff or any of the other nWo around him. It's obvious that he is upset after what transpired this past Monday night. He gets in the ring, the crowd cheering for his distaste with what had happened.
Hogan: "The first thing you morons need to do, is sit down and shut up. Secondly, you all need to listen to what Hollywood Hogan has to say."
"Sting, if you're expecting me to come out here and say that after Monday night, all the controversy is over with, and that the better man won, think again brother. You didn't prove nothing in that match, just that you can barely beat me when the cards are stacked in your favor. Some how, some way, I'm going to get my rematch, and when I do...you're looking at the NWO World Heavyweight Champion brother. Cause see the fact of the matter is, no matter how many times you beat me Sting. No matter how many times you manage to get one over on Hollywood, you'll never be half the icon that I am brother. You don't have the movie deals, or the million dollar contracts, or the TV shows. And quite frankly, you don't have the talent to hang with me dude. I am, forever and always, the best in this business, whether I have the belt or not. And there is no one in the back, and no one in the wrestling business who can lay a claim to being the best of all times other than Hollywood Hulk..."
- Hogan is interrupted by Bret "The Hitman" Hart's music, as he comes out to thunderous applause. Hart slowly makes his way into the ring, grabbing a mic as he does so. Each of them stand across from each other, as the moment builds. Schiavone makes note that this is the first time the two icons have stood in the ring together like this.
Hart: "You'll have to excuse me Hollywood, I'm a trifle deaf in this ear, but did I just hear you claim to be the best of all time?"
- The crowd cheers and Hart merely smirks at him. Hogan, for his part, scoffs at Hart, disregarding him.
Hart: "I came to the WCW because I got tired of all the degenerates and the ego-driven politics that were taking over up north. I came here, because I heard this is where the big boys play. I came here to prove to everyone that I am still exactly what I say I am, the best there is, the best there was, and the best there ever will be."
Hogan: "You came from up north, brother, because you saw that ship was sinking. You came here, into Hollywood's arena, and you screwed with Hollywood's business. You screwed around with the nWo Hitman, and that's something you do at your own peril brother. And as far, as being the best there ever will be goes, the same applies to you, as it applies to Sting, you couldn't lace my boots on my worst day brother. You will never, be as big of an icon, or as good of a wrestler, as Hollywood Hogan."
Hart: "I interfered in your match at Starrcade, to make sure that what happened to me two months ago, didn't happen to Sting. I interfered, because it was the right thing to do. I don't care about this whole nWo versus WCW nonsense. All I care about is proving that I am the best wrestler in the world today."
- Hart goes up to Hogan, the two of them staring eye to eye.
Hart: "And if I have to go through you to do it, then so be it."
- Schiavone and Heenan yell from the announce position, eager to see the two men get it on, but Hollywood Hogan merely shakes his head, smiling, leaving the ring to a chorus of boos. Hogan walks to the back, talking about Hart being a wannabe, while Bret stands defiantly in the ring and we cut to commercial.
--------
Match #2: Chris Benoit d. WCW TV Champion Booker T at 12:29 by countout - Booker T and Chris Benoit had a fantastic match for the WCW Television Championship, that was unfortunately mired by the interference of one Eddie Guerrero, who has been gunning for Booker's TV Title recently. Guerrero clipped Booker's knee from behind without the referee's knowledge, as the ref was checking on the recovering Chris Benoit at the time. Guerrero then waited for the referee to administer the countout, before jumping into the ring and hitting the fallen Benoit with a frogsplash from the top rope! He then stands triumphant in the ring, with the TV Title high above his head.
Backstage we cut to an assault in progress, as Public Enemy is in the process of laying out the Dudley Boyz, who were supposed to debut tonight. Rocco Rock and Johnny Grunge toss D-von into the side of a production truck, before picking up Buh Buh Ray and double team slamming him through a catering table. The two men leave them both lying on the ground, the statement having been made.
--------
Match #3: The Pitbulls (Anthony Durante & Gary Wolfe) d. Villano IV & Villano V at 8:14 [Wolfe over Villano V] with a Doomsday Device - The Pitbulls were the scheduled opponents of the Dudleys, two tag teams making their in-ring debuts tonight. However the Villano's are a last minute substitute because of the attack by Public Enemy. The Pitbulls are no match for the Mexican veterans though, as they work as a well-oiled machine and make short work of the twin luchadores.
---------
Match #4: Curt Hennig d. Pat Tanaka at 3:58 with a Hennig-Plex - Curt Hennig gets back to his winning ways by pinning Pat Tanaka in quick fashion and securing a win for the nWo. After the match, he makes a motion to his waist, stating that he's still coming after DDP's US Title.
We cut to a video package of a circus atmosphere, with creepy calliope music playing in the background and an eerie voice in the background.
Voice: "They said it was all fun and games. They said everyone would get a big kick out of it. Just a guy telling a few jokes and making some people laugh. Haha...little did they realize that this is no game. This is no joke. Kill the clown will you? What happens when the clown fights back?"
A sinister laugh is heard as the voice whispers...
Voice: "Wait till you see my next trick..."
----------
Match #5: Scott Norton d. Rick Steiner at 13:23 with a Shoulderbreaker - The two men faced off in a rematch of sorts from their Monday night match. In a match that will never be considered a technical classic, the end came when Scott Steiner, in an effort to help his brother, tried to hit Norton with a chair when the ref was down. Rick called him off, stopping him from using the chair, but the distraction allowed Norton to lowblow Scott Steiner from behind. A rake to the eyes to Rick and a chairshot later, and Norton used his shoulderbreaker slam to defeat the Dog-Faced Gremlin, leaving the Steiner's pounding their fists on the mat at what has happened.
----------
Match #6: Bill Goldberg d. Disco Inferno at 7:23 with a Jackhammer Slam - Disco gives Goldberg more of a challenge then he has had in a number of weeks, but the end result is the same. Goldberg hits a spear and jackhammer and makes his way to 19-0.
----------
Match #7: The Giant d. "Macho Man" Randy Savage at 14:01 by disqualification - Savage used his quickness to try and keep the big man on his toes and off his feet, but The Giant kept powering out of every pinning attempt. After a massive gorilla press slam, The Giant signaled for the Chokeslam, which quickly brought out Kevin Nash. Nash dived under the bottom rope and clipped the Giant's knee, getting the DQ win. Nash pounded on The Giant, before signaling to Savage to go up top and deliver the elbow to the Giant. Before he can though, The Giant kicks Nash to the side and gets to his feet. Savage tries to double axehandle him, but The Giant catches him and chokeslams him to the ground. Nash tries another cheap shot, only to get a headbutt to the skull, resulting in Nash reeling out of the ring and falling to the floor. The Giant raises his hand in the air and points to Nash again, as the big man scurries off in fear.
----------
We cut back to the middle of the ring as Lex Luger makes his way to ringside. As opposed to his appearences over the past week, Luger is now all smiles as he gets in the ring with a mic.
Luger: "It's time at last, to put this whole thing to bed. For the last seven days I've been wondering when it would happen. Well earlier today, I received assurances from my inside sources that Sting would be here tonight, and would finally break his silence. So Sting..."
- Luger looks up to the rafters...
Luger: "The floor is yours."
Sting's music plays throughout the arena, but Sting doesn't show up. Luger looks a bit annoyed as the music fades out.
Luger: "Listen, we've waited for 18 months to know why you decided to just hang around in the rafters. I've waited 18 months to know why you did it. I deserve an answer...we all deserve an answer..."
- Sting's music plays again, but still no Sting. Luger is obviously frustrated, while Heenan and Schiavone can't figure out what this is about. Then, abruptly, the music stops and the nWo theme plays. Scott Hall comes out alone, getting in the ring with Luger.
Hall: "Hey yo...I guess the rumors weren't true after all. I guess that the Stinger, isn't gonna be here tonight. What...a...shame."
Luger: "I don't know what your game is Hall, but this doesn't concern you..."
Hall: "It doesn't concern me. I'm the #1 contender for the world heavyweight championship. And at Souled Out, I'm gonna be goin 1-on-1 with the Stinger and bringing the World Heavyweight Championship back to the nWo. I wanted to hear what Sting has to say too. I want to know what he's thinking, when he realizes that his long quest for the belt, was all for nothing, and that Scott Hall is gonna be the champ from now on."
Luger: "I wouldn't be so sure. I know for a fact that Sting has what it takes to wipe the floor with you tonight or any night. But if you seem so hell bent on a fight, you can have one right here, right now."
- Hall shakes his head as if to shrug it off, when out of the crowd Syxx jumps into the ring and blindsides Lex from behind. The two of them start to beat down Lex Luger for a couple of minutes, before the crowd erupts as Sting descends from the rafters, baseball bat in hand and world title around his waist. He jumps into the ring, chasing off the nWo members. He helps Luger to his feet, and Lex merely stares at him, as Sting says nothing to him. The distraction, however, allows Syxx to pull at Sting's boot from the outside, and Hall to jump him from behind. Luger comes to Sting's aid, but Syxx and Hall are joined by Norton, Bagwell & Vincent as the nWo plays the numbers game to their advantage. Sting and Luger are down, as Hall stands over the fallen champion, grabbing the title belt and holding it high above his head, as we fade to black.

Out of Diary notes: For the purposes of this going forward. Saturday Night will have quick results, unless something interesting (like the Eddie Guerrero or Dudley Boyz bit last week) happens. Also as to why I am doing this without WCW Worldwide or The Pro is because I am following along with EWR, which only has three shows allowed unless you change it that way at the beginning. This is merely to keep track of everything that happens, as obviously I am altering the results for the write-up (the Luger, Hall, Sting promo would not really be possible in EWR's limited capacity). It might be, once I have a better handle on everything, that I change this to include a syndicated show for developmental talent/squash matches, but for now Saturday Night will be the low key show. To that end, let's continue on.
Also, this diary is being updated quite regularly here in the early going. This is not a standard I am setting for myself, merely a reflection of the time I have on my hands this weekend. Going forward, things won't be nearly as quick on the turnaround. But I hope it has been entertaining so far and I'm not bolloxing it up too much.
WCW News and Notes
- Rumors have continued to circulate about more signings for the Power Plant, after the recent acquisitions of Lance Diamond and Kurt Angle. However, with 40 workers now under contract, it is expected that this developmental frenzy has stopped for now. - There are also rumors of a Japanese talent exchange in the future, with Jinsei Shinzaki, Hayabusa, and even Mitsuharu Misawa being considered as possible candidates to work dates in the US. Whether or not this happens is yet to be seen. - So far the card for Souled Out, which actually takes place on January 25th in Dayton, OH, includes: Sting vs. Scott Hall for the WCW World Heavyweight Championship
Kevin Nash vs. The Giant
However we can also announce that Chris Jericho vs. Ultimo Dragon for the WCW Cruiserweight Title will take place, as will The Steiner Brothers vs. Vicious and Delicious for the Tag Team Championship. With that out of the way, here's the quick WCW Saturday Night results from January 10th! Hugh Morrus d. Ace Darling at 6:41 with the No Laughing Matter PG-13 d. Brad & Steve Armstrong at 10:01 [JC Ice over Steve Armstrong] with a combination back suplex neckbreaker A video is shown, chronicling the events between Chris Jericho & Ultimo Dragon Saturn d. Alex "The Pug" Porteau at 5:22 by submission with the Rings of Saturn Steven Regal issues an open challenge to anyone, anywhere, to try and beat him Rob Van Dam d. Barry Darsow at 7:00 with the Five Star Frogsplash A new video debuts, showing a man who says he has all the answers. His name is Joe E. Legend, and though you won't like, you'll learn to live with it. Bill Goldberg d. "Hacksaw" Jim Duggan at 9:02 with the Jackhammer Slam

This is awesome. I've really enjoyed everything so far. In my opinion, a good diary is one that I can read, and actually imagine myself watching it on TV in the year of the specific time-frame. Yours is just such a diary.
I just can't wait to see what you do with CM Punk, Colt Cabana, and Bryan Danielson on the main roster. I hope you keep this up long enough for them to be main roster players. Keep up the great work.

WCW Monday Nitro January 12, 1998 Lexington, KYInterview with the nWo
Our show opens with the nWo coming out to ringside, Hollywood Hogan leading the group in full on regalia. The whole stable gets in the ring, Hogan ready to lay down the law to everyone.
Hogan: "I wanna take this opportunity, to welcome all these Kentucky Wildcats, to nWo Monday Nitro brother!"
The crowd has a mixture of cheers for the cheap pop and boos for Hogan.
Hogan: "Ya know somethin guys, I was sittin in the back, watchin the end of Thunder last week brother. And I have to say, that the Stinger, fell for our trap hook line and sinker. It just goes to show you that no matter how hard these WCW-ites try and beat us, when you're messin with the New World Order of professional wrestling brother, you're only ever gonna be second best! And when I get my belt back, when I show the Stinger that he's way out of my league, the name of Hollywood Hogan, along with the nWo, will...
Hogan is interrupted from behind as Scott Hall, who has had an emotionless mask on his face this whole time, finally walks in front of Hogan and grabs a mic of his own.
Hall: "I think I've heard enough Hollywood. I think we all have. I've had something on my mind for a while now, and I'm gonna say it. For weeks and weeks now, all we've heard is about how big an icon Hollywood Hogan is. All we've heard about is how you were gonna beat Sting to a bloody pulp. And yet, two times in a row now, he's left you lying in the middle of this ring. Me and Kev, we get one time to plan a trap for the Stinger? He's left lying on the mat."
Hogan: "Look whatever your problem is..."
Nash enters the fray.
Nash: "Our problem is that you seem to have forgotten who it was who started this revolution. Our problem is that for the last two months, all you've been is talk. I guess when it comes down to it, our problem is you."
Hogan and Nash stare at each other, when Bischoff gets between them.
Bischoff: "Whoa whoa whoa...I think we just need to calm this down. I mean, nWo 4 life right...focus on the big picture which is getting the title back around Holl...
Hall: "He ain't got the shot boss man. I got the shot. He's gotta wait for a shot at what will soon be my title. Maybe, after I beat Sting and take the belt, I'll think about giving you a shot Hulkster."
Hogan: "There's only one guy in this business, capable of being world heavyweight champion, and that's Hollywood Hogan..."
Hall and Hogan now stare each other down, as Nash stands with Hall. Savage now finds his way in between them.
Savage: "Now wait just a minute there...I think we need to just calm down for a minute and think this through."
"....On the other hand. The big man's gotta point. Who says your the only one who should be world champion?"
Hogan and Savage now start to argue, while Hall and Nash interject as well. Nash says something to Savage, which sets him off on a tirade, and the two nearly come to blows. Admist all this, Dusty Rhodes slowly walks from the back.
Rhodes: "E'scuse me for a moment...if you weeell."
The nWo turns to look at the newly crowned Director of Authority in WCW.
Rhodes: "Now, I don't mean to interrupt your little lover's spat here tonight. But I though y'all might like to know that I have a couple o' major announcements, and both of them concern the nWo. First and foremost, a huge announcement for tonight. Because of what happened, last Thursday night on Thunder, in tonight's main event it's gonna be a six-man tag match between Hall, Nash and Syxx against The Giant, Lex Luger and the Dubya See Dubya Worlds Champion, Sting!"
A roar comes from the crowd, as Hall and Nash nod their heads in approval, eager to face off with Sting. Hogan meanwhile looks a bit apprehensive.
Rhodes: "And furthermore, a major major announcement for both Souled Out and Superbrawl. After a tense weekend of negotiatin, I can announce that at Souled Out, we will have a contract signing for the main event of Superbrawl, a matchup of icons...as Hollywood Hulk Hogan will face...Bret The Hitman Hart!
The crowd explodes as Hogan loses his temper, slamming his foot against the rope and saying he didn't agree to this! Hall and Nash merely smile at the display. Dusty Rhodes leaves ringside as we cut to a commercial break with the nWo still incensed.
-------
Back from break, and Schaivone and Heenan are absolutley stunned at the announcement just made by Dusty Rhodes. In the ring, Konnan has remained behind for the opening contest.
Match #1: Konnan d. Rick Martel at 7:32 by submission with the Tequila Sunrise - The match was mostly one-sided, though Martel had a good early showing. Konnan flashes the nWo 4 Life sign, trying to alleviate some of the tension from the previous segment.
Backstage we see Chris Jericho, the WCW Cruiserweight Belt around his waist, as he cautiously walks through the arena, looking over his shoulder to see if Ultimo Dragon is present.
--------
Match #2: Dean Malenko d. Chris Jericho at 14:48 by countout - The match went back and forth several times, with both men nearly scoring pinfall victories on more than one occasion. At the end however, just as Jericho looked to try and hook Malenko in the Lion Tamer, Ultimo Dragon came running out. Jericho saw him coming out of the corner of his eye and Jericho high tailed it out of the ring, grabbing the title belt and escaping through the crowd, leaving Malenko to pick up the countout victory.
---------
Match #3: Buh Buh Ray & D-Von Dudley d. Glacier & Ernest "The Cat" Miller at 10:19 [Buh-Buh Ray over Glacier] with a 3-D - Despite the length of the match, it was essentially a squash as Glacier and Ernest Miller were handily beaten by the officially debuting Dudley Boyz. After the match, The Public Enemy come out to continue their assault from last Thursday, but this time the Dudley Boyz are waiting for them, as both teams brawl to the back.
The same video from the last few weeks, showcasing the debut of Tazz is shown. Backstage we see Steven Regal watching it, as he shakes his head in annoyance. He turns around to see The British Bulldog walking by.
Regal: "Ah, finally. A fellow British man to talk to in a civilized fashion. Listen, David, may I call you David?"
Bulldog starts to say no but Regal continues.
Regal: "Fantastic. I think that you and I have a lot in common, and that together we can finally bring class and civilization to World Championship Wrestling. Not to mention that, together, you and I would be an unstoppable force that can win championships, what do you say?"
Bulldog looks at the outstretched hand of Regal and stares at him dead in the face.
Bulldog: "I say, I don't like bullies, which is exactly what you are. I don't like people who think their better than other people just because of their birth, which is what you say. I say, I don't like you. So in short...no god damn way."
Regals face contorts in anger and he sucker punches Bulldog. In short order the two start brawling backstage, and have to be separated by security.
-------
Match #4: The British Bulldog d. Fit Finlay at 11:59 with a running powerslam - Bulldog and Finlay have a short donnybrook match, but an entertaining one. Bulldog wins with the powerslam. Afterward, Regal comes back out, looking to continue their fight from before. He sneaks into the ring as Bulldog celebrates and sucker punches him again. After getting him down, Regal hooks on the Regal Stretch and forces Bulldog to tap out in vain, before security rushes out to break the hold. Regals leaves Bulldog lying in the middle of the ring.
---------
Match #5: Diamond Dallas Page d. Meng at 10:00 with a Diamond Cutter to retain the US Title - DDP successfully defended his title against the Tongan Monster. Afterwards, while DDP is celebrating. He notices Ric Flair and Arn Anderson up on the stage watching him. Page looks back at them, and the two Horsemen merely nod their heads and leave Page looking flummoxed.
---------
Match #6: Bill Goldberg d. Cibernetico at 3:23 with a Jackhammer Slam - Nothing really to see here, as Goldberg improves to 21-0 with a victory over the luchadore.
---------
Match #7: Kevin Nash, Scott Hall & Syxx d. The Giant, Lex Luger & Sting at 19:09 [Hall over Sting] with a schoolboy rollup - The match went back and forth, with the nWo focusing mostly on keeping Luger isolated from Sting or The Giant. Once Sting came in, he was a house of fire. The Giant came in, trying to get his hands on Kevin Nash. With those two chasing each other to the back, the end came when Luger hooked Syxx in the Torture Rack while Sting hit a Stinger Splash on Hall. Sting had the pin on Hall, but the ref was distracted by the non-legal man in Luger. Sting got off the pin to get the ref's attention, and Luger and Sting argued for a split second. Luger finally got out of the ring, only at the same moment to have Hall rollup Sting from behind and get a pinfall with a schoolboy before Luger could react. Hall and Syxx ran off to the back, leaving Sting staring at Luger before shaking his head and walking off, as the screen fades to black.

WCW Thunder January 15, 1998 Shreveport, LA
Before we begin Tony Schiavone makes a note that, due to an injury sustained at a house show in Birmingham AL on Tuesday, Nature Boy Ric Flair would be out of action for quite some time. We wish him a speedy recovery. A rundown of the card tonight is given, including tonight's main event, as Bret Hart makes his first in-ring appearence in WCW, in a match against Macho Man Randy Savage.
Match #1: Disco Inferno d. Super Crazy at 8:25 with a Chartbuster - Standard matchup, though Super Crazy did put up some nice highflying offense in his debut match. Disco gets back on the winning track with a Chartbuster.
-----------
Backstage, we see Dusty Rhodes in his office. Quickly, Eric Bischoff walks through the door, without knocking or anything.
Rhodes: "Weeel Mr. Bischoff. To what do I owe this pleasure?"
Bischoff: "Alright Rhodes cut the crap. What's this garbage that your trying to sell that Hollywood Hogan is going to fight Bret Hart at Superbrawl. You and I both know that he did NOT agree to that match."
Rhodes: "I figured...since he ain't gotta be worryin about challenging for the WCW Title anytime soon, he'd be free. And think of the buyrates Eric, the money rollin in. You got two icons of the sport, two of the biggest names in the history of our industry, squarin off one on one for the first time ever."
Bischoff: "First off...Bret Hart is NOT an icon. On his best day, he couldn't lace Hollywood's boots. Secondly, I don't care if you think this is some kind of dream match. Facts are facts, and the fact is that Hollywood Hulk Hogan's contract is crystal clear. With the exception of title matchs, he fights when he wants...who he wants...where he wants. So unless your prepared to give Bret the World Championship right now...that match at Superbrawl is off...
Rhodes thinks about it a moment, and then smiles right back.
Rhodes: "Well, as you say facts is facts and the fact of the matter is this...I'm in charge...not you. And if that's the way Hollywood wants to play it, then I'll play it that way. If he ever...and I do mean ever...wants to even sniff a World Title Match again, he will be at Souled Out in 10 days and he will sign that contract. You can take that to the bank."
Bischoff is incensed at being outflanked by Rhodes, who merely dismisses him out of hand as we cut back to ringside.
Match #2: Steven Regal & Fit Finlay d. The British Bulldog & Jim "The Anvil" Neidhart at 9:17 [Regal over Neidhart] after a brass knuckles shot - This match was pretty much an all out brawl from the beginning, as Regal and Finlay each took turns going after the Bulldog, whom Regal is now scheduled to fight at Souled Out. The end comes as the referee is desperately trying to restore order, and behind his back Regal hits Neidhart with a pair of brass knuckles, scoring the three count afterwards. The two teams then continue to brawl, Neidhart recovering from the shot relatively quickly to join the fray, and they all brawl to the back.
----------
Match #3: Kanyon d. Joe Gomez at 4:23 with a Flatliner - Kanyon makes his in-ring debut as a member of the Flock and absolutely destroys Joe Gomez in the process. After the match, Kanyon is remorseless, hitting Gomez with another flatliner after the match is over before heading out back through the crowd.
Backstage, Ultimo Dragon is busy continuing his search for Chris Jericho. However that's not the only thing he has to worry about, as he has a match coming up next.
----------
Match #4: Ultimo Dragon d. Brad Armstrong at 10:15 by submission with a Dragon Sleeper - Back and forth matchup as the veteran Armstrong put up quite a fight against the Cruiserweight Champ. However in the end, Dragon secures the win with a Sleeper, proving he is ready for the match with Chris Jericho at Souled Out.
----------
We see a simple white screen with a lone man in a suit and tie standing in front of it. This is Joe E. Ledge.
Ledge: "Here in WCW, I see the people are in crisis. Degenerates, lowlifes and ego-driven primadonnas have become the norm in this environment, leaving you...and unfortunately your children, with no one to look up to. Well, fear not fans, for the Ledgend is here to provide you with someone to look up to. A man who stands for success, for what's right, and for all the innocent young minds out there to strive to be like. So look no further than I, because next week, when I make my debut, the Ledgend will answer your prayers."
Cut back to Schiavone and Heenan. Schiavone shakes his head while Heenan sings the guys praises. We go back to David Penzer for the next match.
Match #5: Scott Steiner d. Buff Bagwell at 13:39 by submission with the Steiner Recliner - The two men are geared up, ready for their match at Souled Out for the tag team titles, but here tonight it is Steiner who puts on the wrestling clinic, outclassing the younger Bagwell most of the night and finishing him off with a Steiner Recliner. After the match, Scott Norton rushes out to face off with Steiner, but he is cut off by Rick Steiner. Whatever problems the Steiner's have had in past weeks seems to have been put behind them, as they stand tall in the ring, ready to destroy Vicious & Delicious.
----------
Match #6: Chris Benoit d. Eddie Guerrero at 18:06 with a Diving Headbutt - Benoit was seeking retribution for Guerrero costing him a shot at the TV title in the previous week. However Guerrero was focused not only on this match, but his upcoming TV Title rematch with Booker T at Souled Out. The two old rivals squared off in a classic wrestling match, that saw both men nearly score a pinfall victory on a couple of occasions. The end came with the referee temporarily incapacitated. Guerrero slowly made his way to the top to try a Frogsplash, when Booker T came from the crowd and tossed him off the top rope. Booker then waited for Guerrero to get to his feet and then delivered the Scissor Kick to the back of his head. Benoit, not seeing any of this, made his way to the top rope and hit the Swan Dive Headbutt for the 1-2-3. Afterwards, Booker T merely motioned to Guerrero that he was gonna get him at Souled Out.
----------
Backstage, DDP is about to be interviewed by Mean Gene Okerlund, when he is blind sided by Rick Rude and Curt Hennig! Both men put the boots to the People's Champion, with Hennig loudly proclaiming he will once again be WCW United States Champion.
Match #7: Bret Hart d. "Macho Man" Randy Savage at 11:14 by submission with the Sharpshooter - Bret Hart makes his in-ring debut tonight and Randy Savage is more then game. In a back and forth match, Bret Hart eventually gets the win clean with the Sharpshooter, celebrating at the end and raising his arms in victory as a sign that he is ready to make an impact, as we close out the show.

WCW Monday Nitro January 19,1998 Little Rock, AR
Interview with Sting
We open on a sold out arena in Little Rock. And as the announcers run down the card for tonight. About halfway through the lights go down and the familiar music of Sting plays as he makes his way to the ring, WCW World Title draped over his shoulder. Schiavone and Heenan are astounded by Sting's appearence...but they pause when they realize he's about to speak to WCW fans for the first time in over a year.
Sting: "A lot of people have been asking questions about me, about what my intentions are now that I have thoroughly embarrassed and beaten Hulk Hogan. They want to know why...why Sting why? That's the question I've heard from certain individuals over the last few weeks. At first, I was reluctant to answer his questions, simply because my reasons are my own. But as time has gone on, I have decided that I want to clear the air with this man. So Lex Luger...come out here...and we can settle this as friends."
This summons Lex Luger from the back, decked out in street clothes. Luger stands opposite from Sting, the two best friends staring at each other face to face.
Sting: "It's funny. I never knew you had any kind of problem with what I was doing this past year. When I beat Hollywood Hogan at Starrcade, you were the first person there to lift me up on your shoulders and say congratulations. You were the guy I knew could handle the job of fighting the nWo over the last year, while I healed some injuries and then came back ready to fight a different kind of war."
Luger: "That's just it Sting. You left me alone. With the exception of a few people, I was by myself, fighting against an unstoppable force in the New World Order. Night after night I was left lying in the middle of this ring, not because I couldn't handle the job, but because there were just too many people. Sure, I had help. The Giant, DDP, The Steiners...but all too often I was out there by myself against 8 or 9 guys, while you stood up in the rafters, just watching. You could have made a difference in this war a lot sooner than you did. What I want to know is why? Why did you leave us in the first place? And why didn't you come back sooner?"
Sting: "First off...let's make something clear. My beef with the nWo was Hollywood Hogan...not Hall, not Nash, not Syxx, not Konnan. All of them? They're just rats following the Pied Piper. If you expose Hogan, if you take out Hogan, then the nWo will wither and die on the vine. Now that I have beaten Hogan and exposed him, now I will go on to the rest of the nWo...starting this Sunday with Scott Hall. And as for your second question....let's not forget that you turned your back on me over a year ago. You thought that I had sold out...that I had joined the nWo and become a flunkie like the rest of those idiots. You turned your back on me after I was the guy who trusted you and said that you would be on our side."
Luger: "Look...I was wrong...we were all wrong. But that doesn't change the fact that you left us hanging for over a year Sting. That still doesn't explain why you couldn't fight Hogan sooner than you did. And don't give me this crap about waiting for Hogan to agree to the match. We all know, that if push came to shove you could have gotten that match months ago."
Sting: "...We both made mistakes. I think we can agree on that. Let's just say that going forward...I got your back."
Sting extends his hand to Luger, who looks at it for a moment. He looks at the crowd, who urge him to take the offered hand. Instead, Luger rushes forward and hugs Sting. They raise each other's arms and we cut to break.
------
Match #1: Super Crazy d. Hector Garza at 8:17 with a Moonsault - Standard cruiserweight match to open, as Super Crazy picks up his first win here in WCW.
Following the match, Chris Jericho makes his way to ringside with the Cruiserweight Title wrapped around his waist. He gets in the ring.
Jericho: "Welcome fellow Jericholics to another edition of Monday Night Jericho! Not to rain on your parade or anything Super Larry or whatever your name is...but I couldn't go another minute without addressing a huge misconception that has been plaguing the WCW for weeks on end. You see, during your match Larry, I was in the back in my dressing room, watching my obscenely expensive television set, and I heard Tony Shaphoney over their refer to the idea that Ultimo Dragon is the cruiserweight champion. I suggest you check your sources Shaphoney, because last time I looked, the WCW Cruiserweight Title is around my gorgeous waist, exactly where it has been for the last several weeks."
Schiavone makes mention of whether or not Jericho is delusional.
Jericho: "It's not my fault if Lizard-Boy has been running around, claiming to be champion, when I obviously have the belt. But fortunately, this Sunday, all that will be put to rest. The only time you will see Chris Jericho without this championship around his waist is when I face Ultimo Dragon this Sunday and the belt is suspended high above the ring. And that time will only be temporary, because after I clip the Dragon's Wings, I will climb the ladder, retrieve my championship belt, and then you will all have no choice but to rightfully call me the Cruiserweight Champion of the World! Thank you!"
Jericho salutes the booing fans, as we head to commercial break.
-------
Match #2: Scott & Rick Steiner d. Buh Buh Ray & D-Von Dudley at 17:30 [Rick over D-Von] with a Top Rope Bulldog - These two teams both have matches this Sunday, but faced off in a tuneup tonight. The problems that seemed to be plaguing the Steiners the last few weeks aren't there now, as they work like the well-oiled machine that they always have been. The end comes when the Steiners hit a top rope bulldog on D-Von, picking up the victory in a highly competitive matchup. Afterwards, The Public Enemy make their way to ringside and attack the Dudleys. The two teams continue brawling to the back as we head back to commercial.
------
As we come back from break, Raven is at ringside, as Kidman tentatively goes over the railing for his "initiation" as it were.
Match #3: Kidman d. Psychosis at 8:19 with the Seven Year Itch - Psychosis came out guns a blazing, eager to pull off the huge win, but Kidman perseveres and earns the victory, and a spot in Raven's Flock. After the match, out of the crowd comes a wild-eyed crazy man weilding a crowbar. The man, identified as Devon Storm, attacks Psychosis with the crowbar, hitting him in the ribs several times. When he has finished, Storm looks over to Raven who merely nods his head. The Flock leave, Devon Storm in toe.
The video clip of Taz's impending debut is shown again, and with it we see that Taz will be making his debut next week on Nitro.
---------
Match #4: Chris Benoit d. Booker T at 15:05 by submission with the Crippler Crossface to win the WCW Television Title - We had learned on WCW.com over the course of the weekend that Dusty Rhodes had granted Chris Benoit a rematch for the TV Title, with the stipulation that Eddie Guerrero was barred from ringside. Benoit made the most of his opportunity, capturing his first singles title in WCW and ending the short reign of Booker T. After the match, no longer burdened by Rhodes' stipulation, resulted in Guerrero coming out and attacking both men, angry that his seemingly guaranteed title shot has gone up in smoke.
---------
When we come back, Gene Okerlund is in the ring to introduce his next guest.
Okerlund: "We are back here tonight on WCW Monday Nitro, and my guest at this time is the man who this Sunday, will attempt to lay claim to the title of most dangerous big man in all of World Championship Wrestling, please welcome a member of The Outsiders...Big Sexy Kevin Nash!"
Nash makes his way to the ring, a mixture of boos and cheers for the nWo member. He gets in the ring with Okerlund, who is not intimitated by his size.
Okerlund: "Alright Kevin Nash...this Sunday at Souled Out it has been guaranteed by WCW Director of Authority Dusty Rhodes that you will be in Dayton Ohio and you will go one on one with The Giant this Sunday night. And surely there will be dire consequences if you try and pull a stunt like you did a month ago at Starrcade."
Nash: "Don't worry Geno, you want your little battle of the Giants, you'll get your battle of the Giants. And not because I'm scared of what ole lard-ass Dusty Rhodes can do to me...outside of trying to beat me in a hot dog eating contest anyway.
Okerlund: "That man is the Director of Authority! You can't disrespect..."
Nash: "That man is a lot like other folks around these parts. Washed up, petrified pieces of crap that you call wrestling icons and legends. Newsflash guys, Scotty, Syxx and myself, we aren't impressed with the fact that you are legends in this business. You may have been big names in the past, but today the only thing your doing is wasting space and taking up important real estate at the top of the card. When we started this war, it was supposed to be the new blood of the business finally taking what should have been ours a long time ago. Somewhere along the way, that got replaced by Hollywood deals, spray on tans and air guitars. Well that's gonna end this Sunday."
Okerlund: "Forgive me for reading in between the lines, but it seems like your referring to a certain someone that we all know..."
Nash: "You can read whatever you want to in it Baldy...but facts is facts. This Sunday, after I chop down ole Jolly Green, and Scotty takes the belt from Sting, the whole world is gonna see that the nWo...we're just getting started. Just when you think you know everything there is to know about us...we're gonna change the questions. Stay tuned...it's gonna be a bumpy ride from here on out."
That enigma let out, Nash makes his way down the aisle. Halfway down, Randy Savage comes out from the back looking at him angrily. Nash merely regards him for a moment, before moving on to the back.
------
Match #5: Bill Goldberg d. Mike Enos at 4:02 with a Jackhammer Slam - Lather rinse repeat, as Goldberg moves to 22-0.
A video is shown, chronicling the controversy between Hollywood Hogan and Bret Hart over the last month, and hyping the contract signing this Sunday at Souled Out.
------
Match #6: Diamond Dallas Page d. Curt Hennig in a Steel Cage Match at 20:01 by escaping the cage to retain the US Title - In an effort to finally settle the score, DDP and Hennig battle in a Steel Cage for the US Title. Despite almost escaping the cage, Hennig falls victim to a Diamond Cutter off the top of the cage, and Page then manages to crawl through the door to win the match. Afterwards, while celebrating, DDP is suddenly attacked from behind by Raven, who spins him around and hits him with the Evenflow DDT. We close the show with Raven standing over Diamond Dallas Page, extending his arms in his trademark pose.

Nitro 1/5/98: Good to see JJ Dillon turning over his commissionership to Dusty Rhodes, glad wer'e seeing RVD in WCW, The ECW must be mad now that Rob Van Dam's in WCW. Great win for him over Prince Iaukea, great 16-minute contest between Jericho and Mysterio, two future stars in WCW and two that are destined to go to the WWF eventually, but great win for Jericho. Weird promo with Raven and his flock, Great promo with Luger obviously concerned about Sting, we have yet to see Sting talk soon, nice win for Bagwell and Norton against The Steiner Brothers, and Goldberg gets a huge win over Jim Neidhart, Neidhart just recently left the WWF to go to WCW to get squashed by Goldberg, poor Neidhart, he had a tough 1997 in the WWF and now his 1998 in WCW is getting tough, nice title defense by Sting against Hogan in a well-good match,
Thunder 1/8/98: Great kickoff with Steven Regal beating everyone's favorite jobber Norman Smiley, a Hart/Hogan match seems to be potential, should've been in the WWF in 1993 but seemingly enough it's WCW in 1998 so a Hart/Hogan match is likely to happen, nice win for Chris Benoit over Booker T, but the title didn't change hands on a countout, Dudleys in WCW wow, you've outdone yourself with that, nice win for the Pittbulls, good win for Hennig, hopefully he's in contention for the United States Championship against Diamond Dallas Page, nice win for Norton against Rick Steiner, and also another win for Bill Goldberg, glad to see Disco Inferno hung in there for a little bit but couldn't overcome the streak, Nice DQ victory for The Giant over Randy Savage and to top it off, the NWO beats down Sting and Lex Luger as well,
Nitro 1/12/98: Nice start with the NWO coming out and Dusty booking a Six-Man Tag Team Match with the NWO vs Sting, Luger and the Giant, good win for Konnan against Martel. Your'e having the cruiserweights wrestle these long ten-minute matches, I don't have a problem with that, but great win for Malenko against Jericho on a countout victory, good WCW win for The Dudley Brothers, I'm glad we get to see The Dudley Boys and RVD in WCW. Can't wait to see Tazz in WCW. Nice win for The Bulldog against Finlay, liking to see Bulldog go into the Main-Event status in WCW, DDP successfully defends the title against Meng, great win for him, another squash for Goldberg, the streak is still living, who can tame the master Goldberg. And also nice six-man tag team match and good win for the NWO, but there's some tension between Sting and Luger somewhat,
Thunder 1/15/98: Booked pretty well, Benoit and Guerrero was great, and Bret Hart making his WCW Debut against Randy Savage, great post-WWF Match between these two, Bret gets revenge from 1987 by defeating Randy Savage,
Nitro 1/19/98: Well first time we get to hear Sting talk, but Luger and Sting saying they have each other's backs something tells me Luger could join the NWO and turn on WCW. Nice cruiserweight victory by Super Crazy, at least it wasn't a long match, it was just a eight-minute match, Jericho interview was pretty done well, The Steiners vs The Dudleys in WCW, pretty awesome but good win for the Steiners too, The Flock at it again with Kidman defeating Pcisosis, Benoit wins the Television Title over Booker T. I hope you give Benoit the TV Title for very much longer, Nash interview was nice and his match with The Giant should be a classic, are we going to see the "powerbomb" angle, I really hope so, another Goldberg victory, who's going to be the guy to go after Goldberg, but DDP and Hennig, the main event written well with DDP getting a victory over Hennig and Raven making his intentions to get the United States Championship against Diamond Dallas Page.
great shows, hope you keep this up man and as always, you can leave a comment on my WWF 1993 Diary

WCW Thunder January 22, 1998 Evansville, IN
Match #1: Bill Goldberg d. The Barbarian at 6:03 with a Jackhammer - One might think The Barbarian would put up a bigger fight for Goldberg then he did, but the monster streak extends to 23-0 with no end in sight.
- Backstage, Dusty Rhodes announces to Gene Okerlund that tonight in the main event we will see two major players square off, as Scott Hall faces off against The Giant.
-------------
Match#2: Eddie Guerrero d. Rey Mysterio Jr. at 13:00 with a Frogsplash - In a good tune up match for this Sunday for Guerrero, he had all he could handle from his rival and former cruiserweight champion. Despite the good effort though, Guerrero hits a brainbuster followed up by a frogsplash to pick up the win. After the match, the former TV Champ Booker T comes out and attacks Guerrero, hitting him with a Missile Dropkick and following it up with an axe kick to the back of his head. Booker T stands tall in the middle of the ring, ready for their encounter at Souled Out.
------------
Match #3: Johnny Grunge & "Flyboy" Rocco Rock d. Sick Boy & Riggs at 9:54 [Grunge over Riggs] with a Drive-By - The Public Enemy get geared up for their match this Sunday with the Dudleys, making relatively quick work of the two Flock members. After the match though, predictably, The Dudleys come out and attack both member of The Public Enemy, culminating with a 3-D for Rocco Rock through a table! The Dudleys stand tall over their opponents for this Sunday.
Backstage, we see Diamond Dallas Page warming up for his match later tonight. Gene Okerlund intercepts him.
Okerlund: "DDP, this past Monday night we saw quite a scene following your match with Curt Hennig this past Monday Night, with you being attacked by Raven and his flock. Now I have been trying to reach you all week to get some idea as to why you would have been attacked by a man like Raven." Page: "Look Gene the only reason I can think of is that he wants the title around my waist, same as everyone else in WCW. If that's what he's after then he knows where I am. I'm not afraid of fighting a Hot Topic reject like Raven." Okerlund: "Be that as it may, the attack was so sudden and so malicious, I have to ask if there are some other ulterior motives..." Page: "Something's are better left buried Gene. I don't wanna really talk about it right now, Okay?" Page walks off, leaving Okerlund with the microphone in his hand.
---------
Match #4: Joe E. Ledge d. Alex "The Pug" Porteau at 5:17 with the Ledgecution - After a few weeks of anticipation, we finally witness the debut of the "Ledgend" as it were, and Ledge doesn't disappoint, making quick work of Alex Porteau in an impressive fashion, finishing off with a modified hangman's neckbreaker that he calls the Ledgecution. After the match, eager to send a message, he delivers the move again to Porteau and then celebrates for the fans, oblivious to their boos.
Backstage Gene Okerlund is preparing for an interview with The British Bulldog, when out of nowhere comes Steven Regal, who blindsides Bulldog with a steel chair to the back. After putting the boots to Bulldog, shouting that he had his chance, Regal walks off, his point having been made.
---------
Match #5: Diamond Dallas Page d. Kanyon at 14:33 by disqualification - In this non-title match, DDP took on one of the newest recruits into Raven's Flock in Kanyon, but it was a difficult match with Kanyon coming close to pulling the upset a couple of times. DDP gets the win after Raven sneaks in with the rest of the Flock, beating down Page in the center of the ring, before Raven delivers another Evenflow to the US Champion. Raven once again stares down at Page, extending his arms in a Christ-like pose, before leaving with the rest of the Flock.
---------
We go to pre-recorded comments by Bret Hart asked by WCW.com if he is ready this Sunday to stare Hollywood Hogan in the eyes at the contract signing this Sunday.
Hart: "Look I think we all know the history that Hollywood Hogan and I have. I think we all know that his over-inflated ego doesn't think that I'm anywhere close to the icon that he is in this industry. Well he can think that all he wants, because the truth of the matter is that I never wanted to be an icon. All I want to do, night in and night out, is prove to the entire world that there isn't a wrestler on the planet who can outwrestle, out manuever, or outthink me in between those ropes. I want to prove that I am exactly what I say I am, the best there is, the best there was, and the best there ever will be. If Hollywood Hogan wants to claim that he's a bigger celebrity then I am, so be it. If he wants to claim he's a bigger movie star then I am, great. But when he claims to be the best wrestler alive today...that's where I draw the line. And after this Sunday, when the contract's signed, we'll go to Superbrawl in the Cow Palace and I will show him and the entire world, that in my domain of the wrestling ring, Hollywood Hogan is only second best." -------- Match #6: Ultimo Dragon d. Syxx at 7:13 by disqualification - Another non-title tuneup for the Dragon that ended poorly for him, as Chris Jericho interceded in the matchup and caused the dq win for Dragon, afterwards posing with the title belt.
---------
Match #7: Scott Hall d. The Giant at 10:09 by countout - In a hard hitting matchup, The Giant got himself intentionally counted out the minute he saw Kevin Nash slowly sauntering his way down the aisle, chasing Big Sexy out of the arena. Scott Hall celebrated in the ring, mocking The Giant when the lights suddenly went down. Hall turned to the entryway to face the impending arrival of Sting, but when the lights came back up Sting was behind him. He grabs Hall by the head and then drops him down with a Scorpion Death Drop, standing tall over his challenger as the show closes.

WCW World Tag Team Title Match

Ultimo Dragon (c) vs. Chris Jericho Steven Regal vs. The British Bulldog The Dudley Boyz vs. The Public Enemy #1 Contenders Match for the TV Title
Booker T. vs. Eddie Guerrero Pre-Show Match
The Pitbulls vs. A Mystery Team w/James Vandenberg ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- The Pitbulls come out to a strong amount of applause, quickly becoming well liked in the growing tag division of WCW. They stand in the center of the ring, eager to begin the matchup, when James Vandenberg enters the entryway.
Vandenberg: "Well well well, it would appear that rumors of my demise have been greatly exaggerated. Despite the disloyalty of my former protege, the man now known as Kanyon, I am confident that I will lead my new team to the top here in WCW. And to that end, I have combined the forces of my other protege Wrath, with that of a new client I have stolen from the clutches of "up north" as they say. Ladies and gentlemen, I present to you Bryan Clarke and Brian Adams...THE WAR MACHINES!
Clarke and Adams each emerge from the back, causing Vandenberg to laugh maniacally as they make their way to the ring.
Pre-Show Match Bryan Clarke & Brian Adams d. Gary Wolfe & Anthony Durante at 8:22 by pinfall [Clarke over Durante] with a double chokeslam - Despite how impressive The Pitbulls have looked in recent weeks, they are steamrolled by the tag combination of The War Machines. Clarke and Adams use their power to their advantage, and despite their lack of experience as a team, manage to overcome the Pitbulls with relative ease. The end comes with a double chokeslam from The War Machines, Clarke pinning Durante afterwards.
The announcers run down the card for tonight and we get the opening crawl for the show, chronicling the issues between Kevin Nash and The Giant. Before long we are ready to begin the opening match.
#1 Contenders Match for the TV Title Booker T d. Eddie Guerrero at 16:38 by pinfall with the Axe Kick - This match, originally scheduled to be for the TV Title, was changed to a #1 contenders match after Chris Benoit won the title last week, meaning he would face the winner on Nitro. Guerrero started the match in control, but Booker quickly used his size advantage to keep Guerrero on the mat. Booker showed quite a bit of technical skill, but Guerrero, the veteran, took advantage of the younger man's mistake and caught him with a dropkick to the knee. Guerrero then worked on the knee, trying to keep Booker away from his power base, and even hit a frogsplash that only generated a two count. Booker rallied and hit a Harlem Side Kick, and followed that up with the Axe Kick for the win, placing himself back in the title hunt on Nitro.
We next see a video piece about the feud between The Dudley Boyz and The Public Enemy. The announcers make clear that neither team has fought the other to a convincing victory as of yet.
Buh Buh Ray & D-Von Dudley fought Johnny Grunge & "Flyboy" Rocco Rock to a double countout at 12:01 - The two teams immediately starting brawling with each other, and referee Mark Curtis had a hard time establishing some sense of order. Once order was established, The Dudleys used their experience to isolate Rocco Rock. Rock manages to fight his way back to his partner's corner, but before long though things degenerate again, and the whole affair turns into a street fight, with both teams fighting to the back, not caring that they've both just been counted out.
Steven Regal d. The British Bulldog at 15:00 by pinfall with a rollup - The two British rivals have had issues over the last few weeks, and both of them attack each other with fervor in the opening rounds of the match. Regal focuses on the ground attack, keeping the high impact moves of Davey Boy Smith at bay, but Bulldog is able to counter most of Regal's moves with tech savy moves of his own. Regal is frustrated by his inability to keep Bulldog on the mat for prolonged periods of time, and the normally methodical technician makes a critical mistake midway through, leaving him open to counter attack. Back and forth the match goes till Bulldog rallies late and powers out of the Regal Stretch and to the ropes. At this point, Fit Finlay comes down the aisleway, distracting both Bulldog and the referee. This distraction allows Regal to hit a low blow on Bulldog, and roll him up with a school boy, securing the win by cheating!
Ladder Match for the WCW Cruiserweight Title Chris Jericho d. Ultimo Dragon at 20:03 by climbing the ladder and claiming the Cruiserweight Championship - In what was undoubtedly the match of the night, Jericho and Dragon squared off for the disputed cruiserweight championship. Dragon came out guns blazing, focusing more on hurting Jericho than he was regaining the title belt that he had stolen from him a little under a month ago. However things quickly evened out, and both men hit wicked spots off of and with the ladder on the other. At one point Dragon had a chance to retrieve the title belt, but was stopped by Jericho, who proceeded to hook him in the Lion Tamer, using the ladder as a leverage point to try and break Dragon's back. Another time, Jericho was within inches of grabbing the title, only to fall victim to an Asai DDT off the top of the ladder! The end finally came when Jericho countered an Asai Moonsault into a Tombstone Piledriver. He then used the temporary repreive to climb the ladder and claim the title, and become the rightful Cruiserweight Champion.
WCW Tag Team Championship Match Buff Bagwell & Scott "Flash" Norton d. Rick & Scott Steiner at 10:48 by pinfall [Bagwell over Scott Steiner] with a Buff Blockbuster to win the Tag Titles - The Steiners dominated the first two minutes of the match, before a distraction from Vincent allowed Scott Norton to hit Rick Steiner from behind. After several minutes of isolating Rick Steiner, Rick makes the tag to his brother Scott, causing Scott Steiner to lay waste to Vicious and Delicious. The match quickly gets out of hand, and turns into a near four man brawl. On the outside, with the referee distracted with getting Scott Steiner to stop pounding on the illegal man Norton, Vincent throws powder into the eyes of brother Rick. Blinded, Rick Steiner bumps into his brother, turns around and clotheslines him to the mat, not knowing what he just did. Norton clotheslines Rick Steiner out of the ring, and when Scott turns around he is hit with a Buff Blockbuster for the three count and new tag team champions! After the match, Rick tries to explain himself to his obviously upset brother, and though Scott at first seems to understand, when Rick turns around, Scott blindsides him from the back. Scott then delivers a Steiner Screwdriver to his own brother, leaving in an angry huff.
We back to ringside after a video package showing the history between Hollywood Hogan and Bret Hart, where Mean Gene Okerlund is standing by.
The Contract Signing
Okerlund: "Alright thank you very much Tony Schiavone...and fans...this is the moment that we have all been waiting for. If you had told me one year ago tonight that I would be standing in this ring, ready to witness what I am about to witness, I would have called the men in white coats. But here we are, for this momentous occasion! The contract signing between Hollywood Hulk Hogan and Bret The Hitman Hart for the match that will take place at Superbrawl VIII. With me at this time the man who put together this match for the ages, WCW Director of Authority The American Dream Dusty Rhodes and Dusty, may I say that you have pulled off quite the coup here if you please."
Rhodes: "Well Mean Gene...ya see it's real simple. What we've got is two icons in the sport of professional wrestling. Two men who are at the top of their game. And now, at Superbrawl, it's my job to make sure these two men square off at Superbrawl in a matchup of the century. So...without further adieu, let's get this show on the road and get the contract signed.
Okerlund: "Indeed I am eager to see this happen, just as much as you. So please welcome, the former WCW Heavyweight Champion...the leader of the New World Order Hollywood...Hulk...Hogan!
Voodoo Child hits and Hollywood Hogan enters the ring, flanked by his manager/flunkie Eric Bischoff. He struts his way down to the ring, air guitaring on his non-existant belt as he does to a mixture of boos and cheers from the crowd. He climbs in the ring after Bischoff and poses for the crowd.
Okerlund: "Thank you both for being here and..."
Bischoff: "Before this begins Gene, I have something that I need to say. Acting as Hollywood Hulk Hogan's agent for this contract, I have to say that I have filed a formal protest with the WCW Championship Committee over the heavy-handed and downright Draconian measures that that man, Dusty Rhodes, has used to get my client, Hollywood Hogan, to agree to this match. Everyone knows that, after tonight's match between Scott Hall and Sting, that Hollywood Hogan should be the #1 contender to the WCW Title. And forcing him to fight in this match at Superbrawl is an insult and a direct violation of the code of conduct for WCW executives."
Rhodes: "I'm well aware of the complaints you have made Eric Bischoff...but the time for complainin and bellyachin is over. And now we're gonna have the contract signed, sealed and delivered. I would ask you to please welcome the man you will be facing, Hollywood, at Superbrawl. Bret...The Hitman...Hart!"
Bret Hart comes out to cheers from the crowd, slapping a few hands along the way to the ring. He seems to be all business as opposed to Hogan who was taking things very lightly, however Hogan seems to get more serious when he sees Bret Hart get in the ring, and hears the reaction that Hart gets from the fans. The two men sit down at the table across from one another.
Okerlund: "Alright, let's get this under way. You've both had the opportunity to discuss this with lawyers and WCW officials. All the details have been ironed out. The only thing left to do is sign on the dotted line."
Before Okerlund can continue, Hollywood Hogan reaches up and grabs the microphone from him. Hogan removes his sunglasses, a move duplicated by Bret Hart, and the two men stare at each other eye to eye.
Hogan: "Before we do this, I got some things that I need to get off my chest brother. I don't think that it's any secret that I don't like you Bret. I've never liked you. As far as I'm concerned, your a second rate icon, who only got big because they didn't have anyone up north who could take my spot. They didn't have anyone who could measure up to Hollywood Hogan. And so in desperation, they turned to you to sell out arenas. While I was selling out arenas worldwide with the WCW, you were struggling to fill a crackerbox in Long Island to half capacity. While I was making movies and tv shows, you were happy to get a five minute guest spot on some cartoon show brother. There is no battle of the icons here. As far as I'm concerned, you're just the latest in a long line of Hulk Hogan wannabes that just can't cut the mustard when compared to the real thing. Everytime it's happened, everytime someone new has come along to take my spot, I've beaten them back and showed them that they don't stack up to Hollywood Hogan brother. And at Superbrawl, the exact same thing is gonna happen to you. But this time...this time it's gonna be a little extra special. Because I know why they brought you here. The only reason they brought you to WCW is because your the one guy that I haven't beaten yet. Your the one guy, I haven't ever fought one on one. Well that'll change at Superbrawl, and at the Cow Palace, in front of the millions of nwo-ites out there..."
Hogan signs the contract.
Hogan: "It'll be a pleasure kicking your ass."
Hart nods, and takes a microphone from Dusty Rhodes.
Hart: "You're right about one thing Hogan. I know that you don't like me. And frankly I don't like you. I think you're an ego-driven maniac. I think you're a bully. And I think that you're only half the man that someone like a Dusty Rhodes, or a Randy Savage, or even a Ric Flair is. You're also wrong about one thing. They didn't bring me to WCW because I'm gonna be in the movies or making television commercials. They didn't bring me here to endorse a pasta restaraunt inside a gimmicky mall. They brought me here for one reason, and one reason alone, because when it comes to wrestling inside this ring, there is no one in the entire world who's better than I am. When it comes to pure in-ring ability, no one can top me. And that's exactly what I intend to prove to you and to everyone else at Superbrawl. If you wanna sell out arenas, fine. You wanna make movies, more power to you. But if you want to claim that you are the best wrestler ever, that's where I draw the line. At Superbrawl Hulk I will show you just like I've shown everyone else I've ever fought that I am exactly what I say I am, the best there is, the best there was, and the best there ever will be."
Bret Hart signs the contract and stands up. He and Hogan both stare at each other again, before Hollywood merely smiles and leaves the ring, leaving Bret Hart standing there staring back at him. We next see a video package for Superbrawl VIII before we cut back to the ring for our final two matches.
The Battle of the Giants The Giant d. Kevin Nash by pinfall at 12:13 with a Chokeslam - The match certainly showcased both men's powerful abilities, with each one hitting powerful rights and lefts in an effort to wear down the other one. In what was a very slow-paced matchup, Kevin Nash took advantage of The Giant's missteps, and managed to use what little quickness advantage he had over the larger man to get him down to the ground. The Giant fought back however, and in the midst of the melee referee Nick Patrick is waylayed. This brings out Randy Savage, who rushes to the aid of Big Sexy. Nash uses a low blow to incapacitate The Giant, and then holds him for Savage to hit with a double axehandle. Instead The Giant moves, and Nash is decked by the move. The Giant tosses Savage out of the ring and then hits a thunderous chokeslam on Kevin Nash for the win. After the match, Savage and Nash start to argue about what happened, with Savage taking offense to Nash's comments earlier in the week. Nash finally has enough and kicks Savage in the gut, Jackknifing him to the mat to thunderous applause. Nash gives a crotch chop to the fallen Savage and flashes a Wolfpack sign before heading to the back.
WCW World Title Match Sting d. Scott Hall at 16:58 by pinfall with the Scorpion Death Drop to retain the WCW Title - This match was another back and forth affair, with Scott Hall using his strength and size advantage over the champion, hitting his signature fallaway slam among other powerful moves. Sting showed resiliance by kicking out several times, but momentum seemed to be on Scott Hall's side throughout the match. The tide was slowly beginning to turn when Hollywood Hogan slowly made his way to ringside. Hall and Sting again hooked up in the middle of the ring, and Hogan's appearence at ringside distracted referee Randy Anderson. Scott Hall set up Sting for the Outsider's Edge, when he noticed Hogan. He went over there to argue with Hogan about getting involved, but Hogan insisted he was just there to watch. Suddenly Sting gets up and sneaks up behind Hall and hits him with the Scorpion Death Drop, picking up the 1-2-3. Hogan merely smirks at Hall, who looks back at him in frustration as Sting celebrates and we fade to black.

allright WCW Thunder and Souled Out, UJG's Review:
WCW Thunder (1/22/98) To kick off Thunder, Goldberg gets a huge win over The Barbarian, 23-0 who else is going to try to tame Goldberg, a big match between Scott Hall and The Giant that should be a good main event, a good 13-minute match between two future stars in Eddie Guerrero and Rey Mysterio. Their matches in 1997 was nothing short of classic, but a good win for Eddie. Public Enemy having a run in with The Dudley Boys and great to see The Dudleys put them through a table, WCW will be Hardcore now with The Dudley Boys coming in, great win for the debuter Joe E, Ledge I've never heard of him. But he could be a good addition to your roster, DDP wins against Kanyon, and Ultimo Dragon getting a victory over Syxx by DQ cause of Chris Jericho interrupting the match and I'm really happy to see Bret and Hulk sign the contract, this is what I've been wanting to see in your diary, nice countout victory for Scott Hall over The Giant, but can he win the WCW Championship against Sting. Nice ending with Sting standing tall over Hall.
WCW Souled Out (1/25/98) a great match between Booker T and Eddie Guerrero to kick off the show, a 16-minute match between the two was good with Booker getting the victory over Eddie and in contention to get a TV Title Match with Chris Benoit. Well The Dudleys and The Public Enemy match went to a double countout because they don't care about the rules, here's hoping that they fight in a tag team street fight match at Superbrawl. Great win for Steven over Bulldog, if it was cheating with the help of Finlay. Great 20-minute ladder match for the Cruiserweight Title with Jericho taking the belt, Bagwell and Norton are the new tag team champions, I can dig that and Scott turning on Rick was okay too, didn't have a effect on me. Glad to see Hart and Hogan sign the contract, this match is uh oh I think I'm about to steal a Triple H line but the Hart/Hogan match in WCW is definitely best for business, The Giant gets the win over Nash, I'm kinda bummed that you didn't go for the "powerbomb" angle with Nash but ohhh well, he gets to powerbomb Savage though giving the wolfpack sign wondering if Nash has left the NWO the man who was the center of it in 1996. Nice title defense for Sting against Scott Hall. But the problems between the NWO are just brewing, but great show man. Really hope you keep up the good work dude,
