So me and my friend were talking yesterday about stables, I jokingly said "name a real stable that wasn't filled with horses." And then it dawned on me that the 4 Horseman were close to the first stable, and was wandering if that is legit why they call them "stables" today? If not it makes a lot of sense to do so.

"stable" is actually an insider term that spilled over to be part of the show. Dates back to at least the early 50s. It references booking agents, who kept a stable of wrestlers that they'd book out to booking offices. We'll say for example, Ed Clark has Jim Duggan, Dr. Death Steve Williams, Sid Vicious, Michael Hayes and The Bushwhackers in his stable. Bill Watts could call old Ed and say "I want Duggan, Williams, and The Bushwhackers for the loop between April and June". Ed would give Watts a price for all four wrestlers combined and including trans, which would go to the booking office and the booking office would then pay the wrestlers and send them to the towns. As far as I know, Fabulous Moolah had one of the final stables of wrestlers, controlling a majority of the women's wrestlers into the mid 80s
