Hey guys,
I'm a UK'er and for the past few years I've been a casual Super Bowl watcher without any allegiances to any team, however a few of my buddies are big into the NFL and play Fantasy League etc so I've decided next season I'll join in.
I know the basic rules of American Football but I was wondering if any of you guys have any advice on some further reading or watching to properly understand the sport?
As for a team to support, I've gone for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. I see myself as a bit of a pirate so I thought they looked pretty cool haha, plus that pirate ship in their stadium is stupidly awesome. Any fellow fans?
Thanks guys, look forward to posting in here more often!

Well surely anyone here can give you an exhaustive rundown of the greatest games and moments in NFL history to watch, but honestly, nothing can really top just sitting down and watching the game. Watch the players, listen to the commentators to better understand the lingo, if it is something you enjoy then you learning about it will just come naturally man.

Look up the rules to help- go falcons/ jets Yeah, but even you have to admit sitting down and reading the NFL rules would be monotonous for even a die-hard fan. It is better to learn them in action.

I would also suggest picking up a copy of the Madden NFL video game if you can. I know when I first wanted to get into international football (soccer) I was kinda overwhelmed with all the different leagues and players, but playing FIFA was a fun way for me to familiarize myself with both the players and the nuances of the sport itself.

Watch things like NFL 32 or SportsCenter on ESPN. The Combine is this week. It's a great time to start watching.

Watch and you'll soon pick up everything. Madden just confused the heck out of me when I knew little about the sport, although it's easy to pick up offense as a beginner. I'd recommend watching some games on Youtube, possibly Tampa Bay's Super Bowl victory in 2002. I started following NFL in 2010 and pretty much watched every Dallas Cowboys game religiously. As an Englishman myself, it meant I was up until 4am many times. NFL Gamepass is available to those in UK, which allows you to watch every game live (except those on Sky Sports, which are blacked out for 24 hours). It's a little steep, although I think it's well worth it. One thing I will add, I think it's cool that you've picked the Bucs but I believe a team will find you, through watching NFL games you'll find a team that you like and fits you... of course that could be Tampa Bay, in which case, you made the right choice

You picked one of the better years to become a fan, and a Bucs fan at that. I'm a Kansas City Chiefs / Green Bay Packers / Mississippi Brett Favre fan myself. One bit of advice I'd give you is Youtube.
It might not be the prettiest footage all the time, but you can find a great chunk of games or old shows or favorite players or plays. You can even look up, say the entire history of the franchise that you like.
Check out the early 2000s, if you can. As a Bucs fan, you'll enjoy them.

I was drawn to the Packers in 93, which yes, was because of Mr. Favre. Now days, with Green Bay being Mr. Rodgers Neighborhood and Kansas City having an Alex-cellent QB, I'm loving the connections. Both are friends. Both drafted the same year. Good times.

Step 1- Cheer for the 49ers
Step 2- Hate the Seahawks, Rams, Raiders, Cardinals, Cowboys, Packers, Falcons and Saints
Follow those two easy steps, and you'll be an awesome fan!

I second the Madden and simply watching suggestions. I got into football late (my first year of college) and I felt completely overwhelmed and way in over my head, but a couple years of playing Madden and watching games on a regular basis and things started to become more and more clear and I began to pick up on little nuances and whatnot. You can spend hours reading up on schemes and plays and positions on Wikipedia or the like, but it's one of those things that you just have to see in action.

Basically any team I like don't cheer for those.
