Here's the proposed scenario. Divide rosters into four, distinct weight classes enforced by every major promotion. (WWE, TNA, Japan, NWA, ROH etc.)
The classes would be as follows: Cruiserweights(under 200) Light-Heavyweight(over 200 up to 260) Heavyweights(over 260 with no maximal limit) Openweight would be the replacement for titles such as the original WWE championship which is called a heavyweight title, but is simply meant to recognize the focal point or "best of the best" as it were.
Would this be a positive or negative? I say positive towards a greater sense of realism. You could easily bill any match between wrestlers from different classes as an openweight match, & having weight division based titles would make more sense, as well as bring more prestige to to the title holders.
Imagine Kofi Kingston being a four time World Lightheavyweight Champion instead of IC champion?

Blech. This would suck. It would completely limit the roster as well as potential matches.

I'm pissed they still refer to the world title as the "World Heavyweight" title because they haven't recognized weight classes...ever with the small exception of the light heavyweight/cruiserweight title.

It would still be an unnecessary change, and it just wouldn't work anymore. Especially after all these years of being the way it is. (On my phone, accidentally tapped like instead of quote in case you're wondering. )

Things can't change after being a certain way for too long right?

No thank you. A lot of great matches come from opponents in different weight classes, especially these days.

No thanks. Wrestling has always exaggerated wrestler heights and weights anyway so trying to have official weight classes seems a little silly. I get your idea of realism but Vince shot down realism in the WWE back when he revealed that "wrestling is fake" and what they do is "sports entertainment".
Also, if they did this, I think the classes would be called light heavyweight, heavyweight, and super heavyweight as they commonly referred to the over 300 lbers as super heavyweights back in the 80s.

I'd like to see the cruiserweight/light-heavyweight division come back, but other than that, I think it'd be a step back. Basically, I'd like to see weight classes done how they were in the 90s. Light heavyweights have their own division to give certain guys a chance to get spotlighted, but they could still compete for other championships.
I get what you're saying about adding realism, but I don't think it's needed. Guys like Bret Hart would've never had much of a career, since he made a name for himself going against big guys.
