Bit of sad news. J.D. Gibbs, son of Joe, passed away Friday at 49 after a 4-year battle with a degenerative neurological disease. As co-founder of Joe Gibbs Racing, J.D. was also the president of JGR from 1997 until 2015, when he stepped down to begin focusing on treatment for symptoms impacting areas of brain function, including speech and processing issues. He oversaw JGR operations for championship winning seasons with Bobby Labonte in 2000, two for Tony Stewart [2002 and 2005], and Kyle Busch's championship in 2015.
JGR stated that doctors determined that the cause was likely from "head injuries suffered earlier in life," but one specific injury was not determined as the sole cause behind the health issues. J.D. was a former defensive back and quarterback at the College of William & Mary from 1987 to 1990. He also had a short career as a race car driver and enjoyed other extreme activities.
Denny Hamlin had the following to say about J.D., his passing, and the impact J.D. had on Denny's career.
NASCAR chairman Jim France offered the following:

Jamie McMurray to run the Clash and the Daytona 500. Driving the 40 car for Spire Motorsports. They'll have the 77, as I mentioned above for this Houff guy, but these 2 specific races will see McMurray in the 40, through a partnership with Chip Ganassi. Clash car will be sponsored by AdventHealth, and the 500 will see sponsorship from the brands closest associated with Jamie and his time at CGR. Cessna, McDonald's, and Bass Pro. Don't know why Spire didn't just sign McMurray full-time, and have Houff replace him after a year.
I remember when a sponsor was on one car for one team. Now there's 3 cars, on 3 different teams, gonna be running with Bass Pro sponsorship in the 500 alone. They'll be on the 19 for MTJ and JGR, the 8 for Daniel Hemric and RCR 8, and now McMurray for CGR/Spire.

Dale Jr. announced today, sweeping changes to his JR Motorsports Xfinity Series operations.
What was the 9 team in 2018, driven by NXS Champion Tyler Reddick, will now be the 8 team. It will still be driven by a handful of drivers: Ryan Preece, rookie Zane Smith, Jeb Burton [son of Ward], Spencer Gallagher, and MTJ's little brother Ryan.
Noah Gragson, who was signed away from KBM's 18 NGOTS team, was supposed to take over the 1 car, vacated by the retiring Elliott Sadler. He will now drive the 9 car, presumably still sponsored by Armour.
Michael Annett, driver of the Pilot/FlyingJ 5 car since he joined in 2017, will shift to the 1 car. Family history of the 1 car with the Annetts.
And the only thing not changing is Justin Allgaier will still be driving the 7 car.

Groundbreaking rule change announced today.
Wins will be taken away if a car fails postrace inspections. Driver will be stripped of all points, stage points, money, everything. The runner-up, should they pass inspection, will then be declared the winner.
Virtually any violation in postrace inspections will trigger a disqualification, outside of a loose lugnut. 3 loose lugs will disqualify. 1 or 2 will not but will still net the penalty associated with that violation.

The Daytona 500 is just 10 days away. It feels like the season just ended. I guess its cause there were no real big moves.

Idk if that was supposed to be sarcasm but I didn't detect well. Lol. In any case, that was absolutely horrendous, what Johnson did. And then he wanted to blame Paul.

If you couldn't tell by my previous posts on this thread, that was 150% sarcasm lol. Maybe I should have included a couple more #StupidHashtags: #NASCARTruther #NASCARisRigged Yeah, the past several years Jimmie causes big wrecks in nearly every restrictor plate race and rarely gets the blame from the announcers. Surprised they didn't try to blame Jamie McMurray, he's usually the one Johnson runs into.
