Preordering figures meant you got them before retail? The last 3 or 4 basic and elite series that has not been the case. I used to never preorder figures unless it was one that I was certain would be tough to find. But since I joined this board a year and a half ago, I saw a lot of you get these sets weeks before retail. And when you do the math, buying a case puts it pretty much right at retail per fig. Plus you can sell or trade the doubles easily. And that lowers your cost even more.
I preorder all the RSC exclusives because those are an exception. But I preordered B37 Perfect and got it almost a month after it was first spotted at retail. And I ordered it 10 minutes after it went up so it was the first wave. Not Backorder. I preordered a case of E27 and now they have been spotted like a half a dozen times and PJ just found the whole set this morning.
I'm not whining or anything, nor really venting. Just observing what I've noticed the last few months. I'm sure most of you have noticed this and felt some frustration. I know they're just toys and it's a hobby so everything will be ok. Just thinking aloud really.

Think the worst part is you pay more for them when you pre-order rather than buying retail.

People have received their preorders of E27 from RSC first shipment weeks ago. I missed out on the first shipment so I held off because their second shipment usually come out around the same time as they hit here. My area just received B37 last weekend for the first time. And that was only at target. TRU/KMart/WalMart still haven't gotten anything past the set with Austin as far as Basics go.

I never pre-order anyways so it doesn't bother me. I don't mind waiting a few extra weeks to get the figures. However, I could see where that is frustrating. I'd be upset if I stumbled across a set at retail that I had already pre-ordered and hadn't recieved yet. Do you go ahead and buy the retail figures as well or do you pass on them?

I've never found a set at retail before RSC has them. RSC gets their first shipment at least a month before it turns up here at mass retail. Normally if I preorder a figure from RSC I make sure I do it before it goes to Preorder B/O. Because that would be from their second shipment. If it's already to Preorder b/o then I will just wait to find it locally. I only preorder figures I can't wait for and everything else I will wait to find locally. The next Preorder I will do is E30 LOD.

I had the Legends 1 figures but was dumb and sold my entire collection of Legends off awhile back for much less than they are worth now.

yeah, this is sadly becoming a common trend. we pay the extra RSC prices to get them early, yet a lot of sets seem to be hitting retail at the same time or even before RSC gets them in.

The worst is trying to get figure sets in retail (The Wyatts, Shield, LOD) because inevitably, one will be missing. I've been lucky with being able to find all the Shield members in retail.

My stores have been extremely hit or miss lately on what figures they get and when. I saw E25 at Kmart once, and not the whole set. I've never seen E26 around here nor E27. I've had my E27 Fandango for like 3 weeks now.
B37 is a bad example cause RSC's shipment got pushed back. They got B38 WAY before retail.

Think the worst part is you pay more for them when you pre-order rather than buying retail. Idk about that. You have to stake out toy stores to get a case of figures as they come out. So you'll spend a good amount of money on fuel to get to the toy store and you'll spend a good amount of time checking out the stores. So if you preorder/buy online than you're not only paying for the product you're also paying for convenience. I staked out my local TRU in hopes of getting the Lesner/Batista two pack. I went in the day they get new shipments and was told someone had just bought the entire case they got. So even staking out a store I was beaten to it by a matter of mins.

Elite 19 was the last time I pre-ordered a set from Ringside. And I think it was $180 or more. I was worried Elizabeth would be impossible to find along with HBK. D-Bry and Ziggler were the shelf warmers of that set in my area. But Liz was fairly easy to find online - I think they sat on Mattels' site for awhile.
But the RS prices are a lot closer to retail prices now - even the individual figures if you wait after the initial release. I can certainly appreciate the costs for convenience and getting the figures early.
Elite 30 might be the one tho!

Ringside gets everything before retail except that one case of B38 that was found. Ringside gets them about a month before retail. They shipped Elite 27 awhile ago and I havent seen it at retail. Just a classic complaining thread, cmon guys.
EDIT: forgot about B37, still Ringside generally has before retail.

That's why I don't pre order. Sometimes it's expensive and the scenario with basic 37 at retail before in stock is crazy. I haven't ever pre ordered anything, because I usually wait until they go on sale on ringisde

Mattel did give us some bad ship dates on a few random Basic sets the past few months. Unfortunately it is beyond our control. Your local stores get different sets at random times, it happens to us as well sometimes!
Luckily it hasn't happened on any popular set!
If you do Pre-Order from us and happen to find it at your local store, you can always cancel your pre-order, there's no risk to you.

But even if you call that doesnt guarantee that the figs will be in stock. If you preorder they you guarantee yourself that you will get the fig.

I went in the day they get new shipments and was told someone had just bought the entire case they got. So even staking out a store I was beaten to it by a matter of mins. This is about where I'm at..... I've been driving around town for three weeks searching for Zeb Colter & E27 Rikishi and come up empty handed every time.... I already broke down and bought Zeb online because I just can't take the frustration anymore. Most stores around here are only getting 1 case of product at a time - and only stocking once every week or two. If I'm not there within a few hours of a case being put out, I'm not getting the figure I want..... and many stores (including Wal Mart) have been bare since January. K Mart is very well stocked - with stuff that I already have, or don't want. Target hasn't stocked in 10 days, when I found the remnants of E27..... but no Rikishi. And I'm pretty sure there are at least 3 employees at my TRU who consider themselves "collectors" - they've told me they hold figures in the back for each other, and mysteriously, the good figures are just never there when they put out new cases of stuff. When good figures are packed 2X per case (or less) my chances of finding something good at Toys R Us are zero.... I do work full time (50-60 hours per week) - so I don't often have time to "stalk" the stores, at least enough to get the figures I want... So, I'm actually leaning towards just preordering the stuff I want and not even bothering with retail anymore - it's becoming too frustrating. And this is coming from a guy who used to love "the hunt".
